A nightmare weekend for Kenya Football
This past weekend is one that Kenya football fans including Gor Mahia fans will want to forget. Just when Kenyans thought their football could not sin any further, Kenya was handed two humiliating defeats. The first one came in the LG cup against Sudan. The stadium was filled almost to capacity by an expectant crowd. Whereas Sudan fielded an experimental side, Kenya fielded its top players. Add to that the fact that they were playing at home, and Kenyans expected nothing but a win. This after all is Sudan we are talking about. But the crowd soon turned sour when they realized that Harambee stars, coached by Gor Mahia tactician Zedekiah Otieno Zico was woefully out of their depth.
But the match that Kenyans will want to forget soon was the U23 match against rivals Uganda who beat them 5-1. Several Gor Mahia players featured including Musa Mohammed, Kevin Omondi and Edwin Lavatsa. It was a baptism of fire for Lavatsa who had never played an international match before. What a way to start your international career. Musa Mohammed who played in central defence had a nightmare of a game.
Kenya paid the price for poor preparations. Whereas Kenya assembled the team 4 days before the match, this Uganda team has been training together for years through various age grade competitions. Whereas Uganda takes player development seriosuly, Kenya does not have anything close to youth development. In Uganda, the best young players are assembled at St Peters Kitende school where thet are coached by the Uganda U17 coaches.
In Kenya the best players such as Kevin Omondi who was a star at Langata secondary school are often wasting time playing in schools without qualified coaches. They thus waste their teen years which are the years in which they should be learning the fundamentals of football. In short, Kenya paid ther appropriate price for lack of organization.
may be Kenyan football will improve in August if and only if the elections will not be stolen
what a disappointment now what……..
Is t possible for us to approach Nairobi City Council to give us one primary school to run as a football academy / school> I have in mind such schools as Dr. Krapf etc. We can then employ teachers to issue formal instructions (8-4-4) and mesh it together with an intense football curriculum. From say age 7 to 14. We then transition and integrate the students either to formal secondary schools for the average players or move them to yet another specialized football academy for the highly talented ones. If we replicate this model in all counties we have recipe for success
the senior team played well.zico is a good coach but finding a winning combination is a thorn in the flesh for him, that is why he always win struglling, lose, ordraw all the time.Thats is the painful truth honestly!

What! the national team played well to me anybody saying we did not is missing the point. Its a long time since i saw Harambee stars play such neat and a composed game like they did to me that is the way to go. Zedi build on that please you have seen who is who now and pple need to realise the its to our advantage as Gor mahia if he stays at this level. The skills was there for all to see what is now needed is more cohesion and better opposition. Rather play friendlies with stronger teams like Malawi,Sudan and the North Africans rather than Tanzania, Uganda and the likes if we want to be strong. Zedi what matters is what do you do when you fall? Stand up wipe the dust and learn from it my brother. You are tranforming Harambee stars to a better playing unit thats all i see and yiu have my support. Request for that home game with Malawi and you shall triumph this time. God bless.
Who runs Gor Mahia the Followers or the Management cz as far as am concerned the Websites are owned and operated by individuals. how i wish GM officials cud tap into soome of the talented followers in different fields that can raise the clubs profile far and beyond…lack of marketing strategy making us a sleeping giant…lack of recruitment coz say all the millions of GM followers who..n this is a fact are well financial paid say Kshs. 1000 as membership registration that wud be in 100 of millions and sales from Merchandising wud also generate millions, add ticket sales, TV revenue and sponsorship this is astronomical figures but kwanza TUANGAMIZE HOOLIGANISM kwa uwanja!!!!!!!
From the KPL website i have just seen that SONY have also moved the Sato game to Afraha. I’m sure they also expect a windfall like Chemelil. I can foresee some maximum points, what with the Greem movement invading the town. This time the invasion will even be bigger than the last time
Sony vs Gor av had that it wl played in Nakuru.supersports might av learnt something from 2 away matches.to fellow loyal fans, educate the rogue fans coz with sirikal sky is the limit.
i agree with you guys that last weekend was the worst for kenyan football. First we were humiliated by sudan infront of a big crowd that included me. Secondly uganda U23 boys struck the last nail in our coffin by scoring 5-1. Gidi Ogidi of Radio Jambo today on Gidi na Ghost morning show intimated that one Ugandan fan told him they have come to take Migingo, Ugingo & more grave our first lady! How daring are these ‘ furi furi conditions’?
FKL Erastus Okul good not take more of the goals the Ugandans were raining on us. What did they do to prepare the team for this assignment. How much more humiliation do we want to see? The elections are around the corner and how i wish the likes of Okul be thrown to the dustbin of history. We want our football back. The current office has run out of ideas. Indeed they belong to the wrong side of football history.
Corruption is rife in our football. There are no youth structures. Our stadia have been neglected & rundown. Our players lack proper contractual obligations from clubs among many other ills. Let me be clear. It is now official. I support Sammy Shollei for Chairman. We want to have a clean break from the past by placing untainted leaders to the helm of kenya football. I strongly believe Shollei has what it takes to redeem back our football.
Lastly i wish to congratulate the LG company for organising such a high profile match in our soil. The organization was A1. The fireworks were superb. I do hope more companies will emulate LG company in the promotion of kenya football. I want to end with a swahili saying, ‘asiyekubali kushindwa sii mshindani’.
can someone start talking to LG for sponsorship
Guys we’ll enjoy the afraha fiesta, but i have a reservation about SONY looking like being armtwisted into moving the match to nkr. I prefer winning clean and straight not by politics, remember ulinzi n Gor humiliation at int’l level, i believe we should be strong technically, physicaly n mentally to win the league not by denying other teams their home advantages. Guys there are also other k’ogalo fans in the country side..football development should be encouraged proportionately in the entire nation n we all must play a part..i really want GM to lift all trophies but fairly not discriminatively..let us address the technical deficiencies in our team instead underhand dealings God almighty does not favour corrupt pple..let Sony fans have their home match at home.
i wish first to salute we the fans who turned up to cheer our National teams, especialy,we GOR MAHIA Batalion that constituted 90% of the entire fans.As for FKL,kindly emulate the KPL CLUBS on management
SAMMY SHOLLEI: IS HE THE MAN KENYA FOOTBALL FANS HAVE BEEN WAITING?
Excuse me GM fans for a moment. Though this site is exclusive for GM FC, the forthcoming
KFF/FKL polls are equally important for us not just as GM fans but football lovers as well. For a long time now kenyans have been treated to theatrics at the expense of service. First, i believe, Kenya is the only country in the world with two registered bodies that run fooball. The two protagonists, like tom & jerry in the famous cartoon strip have messed up the beautiful game so much that no kenyan is proud to be associated with our national team. Stastistics don’t lie, they say. Kenya is now at position 123 in fifa rankings. In Africa, they fall way below some of the poorest nations in the continent.
Our national team, Harambee stars had it’s share of problems. They have never had a long serving coach. They are poor kiitted . Infact the national soccer team have never had a proper & widely acceptable national kit. Infact you cannot predict which jersey the team would be donning during national & international assignments. The players have also been paid promptly. We have read and seen them on TV protesting to be paid their allowances immediately after international assignments. At one time, the coach refused to board a plane demanding to be paid all his dues. We have even seen the team being barred from training in one of our stadium. These embarrasment our team have been subjected to is very shameful and disturbing.
World football body, FIFA, came to our rescue and ratified that Kenya to hold elections to form one football body. To effect this development , an independent elections board is now in place to oversee the elections. As i write, the date is now set. The campaigns are now in top gear. The two frontrunners are s. Shollei & h. Mohammed.
Gor FC should rally behind shollei. I do hope this man has what it takes to redeem back our football & inspire our fans to believe in our national team again. He is a former international player who command respect from peers and Kenyans at large. He is untainted, passionate of the game & an effective leader. I strongly recommend him for the post of chairman. How about you?
hi what a mess kenyan football is in i have just read somthing in todays daily nation that GM have started anti hooliganism project i dont know what to call it it is so noble but might go nowhere if all stake holders are not involved back to kenya i really dont support kenya the kenyan team has too much heartache from time in memorial they will never win so long as kasuve is still incharge poor organizational background i feel bad for our players who were involved in the defeats
Kenyan football is won at the Boardroom (The highest bidder takes it) that’s why we cannot create an impact in international games where fair play is observed our referees and administrators have contributed heavily to ensure that football in this country reduces to zero. lets take an example of Ulinzi who were the league champions last year but could not make it to second round in the Africa club champion cup. Now again they are struggling in Arusha(CECAFA). My concern is they are not even ashamed of the losses they keep on accompanying the teams to their loss making mission. These are the same people who scream loudest when elections are called to remove them from their money minting profession i wonder where these creatures came from. Sometimes i feel like leaving Kenya to another country just because of poor leadership in everything. A Kenyan will never leave an office even if the case is obvious he will retreat to his people for security as if when he was eating they ate together. LETS ENSURE GOOD LEADERSHIP IN SPORT THATS WHEN WE CAN DISCUSS ABOUT GOOD RESULTS OTHERWISE NGOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Ole rererue its unfortunate that we have to elect humans who have weaknesses like us but still tis good there’s a chance for a new dawn, plse GM delegates dont vote for these pple who brought us to this mess begining with nyamweya, hatmy, kasuve, okul.they’ve been there working hard for the current mess!
