Aduda: Oktay is going nowhere

Gor Mahia CEO has dismissed calls by fans to fire coach Hassan Oktay. The calls have been building but reached a crescendo on Sunday when Gor Mahia lost to KCB.

“Now that the team lost to KCB does not mean that we go ahead and sack the coach. We are not going to sack the coach just because the fans are demanding for the same.” Aduda told goal.com

Aduda reminded fans that Oktay helped the club reach the group stage.

“We have just started the season and remember, last year we lost five matches and still went on to win the league. The same coach has helped the team qualify for the group stages of the Caf competition and that is not a mean achievement.” he concluded.

The match against SoNy Sugar on Wednesday will be one that will test the mettle of Oktay. Another bad result could bury Gor Mahias title hopes and end Oktay’s career at Kogalo.

Guikan moving to Zambia

Gor Mahia’s Ivorian attacker Ephrem Guikan is set to leave the club, likely for a Zambian side.

“Yes it’s true Guikan has left Gor and is closing in on a transfer here,” a source from the Zambia said to the Nation.

Guikan has never settled at Gor Mahia. Coach Kerr never preferred him and he got limited playing time. He almost left the club in November. That was until coach Kerr announced that he was leaving..

He recently fell out with coach Oktay as well after he was subbed within 10 minutes during the match against Mount Kenya United. As a result he was onmitted from the squad that went to Tanzania for the Super cup. Ambrose Rachier confirmed Guikan’s departure.

“Guikan has written to us requesting to be released saying he is interested in joining another club. We are in talks and will release him and that’s why we have left his name out of Caf list,’’said Rachier.

Trio registered for CAF Cup group stage

Gor Mahia have strengthened their CAF- Confederations squad adding in new signing Dennis Oliech, Nicholas Kipkirui and defender Geoffrey Ochieng.

The trio will be needed to be in top form as Gor Mahia face a stern test against Zamalek of Egypt and NA Hussein Dey of Algeria.

Oliech is easily the most experienced player in the competition, having played in the European Champions League against the likes of Real Madrid.

Aduda may I advise you for free, avoid by all means to attend any match involving Gor mahia fc especially the match against Sony sugar. Because you have returned Gor mahia fc to mediocrity and the kind of football Gor mahia fc is playing is not that of Gor mahia. And even when Gor mahia will face Sony sugar and they win will not spare you. Fans are very and you can’t just portray your arrogance as always and you know very well that oktay is not a quality coach just like some mediocre players that signed. Remember that you were fired from football kenya federation due arrogance and know it all attitude. We will not sit and let our team return to the old age where we could not even finish top ten. Resign as soon as possible before you are forced to resign in front of the media. We’ve done it and we can still do it. There were good coaches who applied for the coaching position at Gor mahia, but you chose a low quality coach and even in Kenya we have kimanzi who is far better than your project oktay. Mark my words, resign before the end of the week.

Let me remind Aduda that he doesn’t not owned Gor mahia, we are the owners of the club and he is our employee. If he thinks that he owns the club then let him come to kisumu.
We failed to qualified at most prestigious compilation and he cannot say that we are in group stage because of the coach.
This coach is useless and unless he leaves, it’s going to take us another ten year to win any title.
The earlier the better. Maybe Rachier and his group want to take us back to where they found the club.

Unless we use some civil ways to bring change i can see the team playing behind doors after being docked points. I know some will say they don’t care and that the end justifies the means. Can’t we borrow from ManU how they handled their crisis with Mourinho in charge? Being unruly and damaging property belonging to people not concerned with our problems is a BIG No. We just got reinstated in Machakos a few months ago, Kasarani is like a tray of eggs to be handled carefully, Kisumu cannot handle CAF or the derby, CAF can fine us the equivalent of what we get from Sportpesa in a year. So as we protest, mourn, cry etc let’s not forget that whatever we do has its consequences. It’s always easier to demolish than build. Before we act let’s take some times to think. Seen the guy who smashed his TV because his team was losing and had a painful time replacing it. If only he had switched it off

Many many GM problems are due to the bloated office but a very learned Chair is quiet on effecting change on this whole clan of saboteurs.

Fans keep changing names but performance and results remain the same.

For once, I agree with Aduda. A great club like Kogallo cannot get into the habit of “Always Firing Coaches”. Whereas there are chances that Oktay may have been a mistake, we may have to live with that mistake, at least for a little longer and see how things turn out. Its like an unwanted pregnancy. You don’t have to abort it just because you realise that it was a mistake. That baby, if borne to term, may end up being a president.

Threatening officials, especially the coach, will not help matters either. Remember, there is a mob out there who will pounce at any opportunity to cause chaos. And this, without saying, will taint our image negatively especially to our sponsors.

I can see a lot has happened since the last time I had something to do with Gor Mahia. Actually I chose to skip work and watch Dennis Oliech and Godfrey Ochieng’ playing Mbao. I watched until we conceded a goal from a nonsensical corner that was conceded by careless attitude from Philemon and Shakava. I turned off my T.V. and shut out anything Gor Mahia until today. I was saving myself from heartache, but I realize that there has been worse.

All these confirm the sneeky feeling that I have always had that Coach Hassan Oktay was given the job based on consideration of the first letter of his second name.

Now that is the biggest difference between the “SPECIAL ONE” ego-eccentric and an “ALL ROUNDER” engaging coach. Fans can now sing the GLORIOUS Man U again.

There was a time in our history when Gor Mahians did not expect success in continental competitions. To wallow in pessimism was the accepted norm. Trophies? Titles? They were for others, usually the reserve of the grandiose clubs of the Northern and western countries of African continent.

The CAF Cup was as elusive as the unicorn: talked about, looked at with wonder, pictured with others but never seen in this Kogalo nation by the Gor Mahians.A club like Gor Mahia, the nihilistic fans would say, would never reach the zenith of African club football. There was no bombast, no pea-cocking, just fatalism.

The iron-handed years of president MOI, whose dictatorial regime had crushed community clubs earlier limited the autonomy and completely ruined the spirit.

True, Kogalo had been able to sign football greats foreign players such as Abbey Nasur and Tim Ayieko, but only managed one quarter final in Con-Fed and Club-Champ finals — in 1976 and 1979 ending in undignified defeat.

But the turning point was in the 80’s — and specifically 1987 which was the day Gor mahia won its first continental Con-Fed Cup. That was the day the club, its fan base, and their love for football was transformed.

I hail the dream team….@ Abbas Hamisi Magongo alias “ORIEKO” a.k.a “ZAMALEK” may your soul rest in peace as we look forward to D-day on Sunday for the historic repeat of crunch match with our continental rival the untouchable NORTHERNERS .The Zamalek of Alexandria in Egypt.

I inspected and authenticated his papers and put him on probation before a contract was issued. Now when he gets stuck an i not help him taking that i know GM better than he ever will plus thise players majority i recruited so when he is at loggerheads with most of them and not utilising them to their strengths can i not help him out so he succeeds and Gor succeeds too in the process?

-The team is ever conceding especially at the continental level at home and GM managed a clean sheet away at Cameroon without him at the defense.
-He has lost his place at the National team.

Gor Mahia youngster eyes more game time

Gor Mahia youngster Eliud Lokuwam has set his sights on becoming a regular starter at the club.

The forward emerged the top scorer at the inaugural Africa Students Football Union (ASFU) Invitational championship that ended on January 27 in Abuja.

The 21-year-old, while representing Kenyatta University, netted six goals to clinch the much-sought after golden boot.

Kenyatta University finished third after edging out Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) of Nigeria 2-1 in the third-place playoff last Saturday.

Lagos State University were crowned champions after stopping University of Development Studies from Tamale, Ghana by a solitary goal in the Saturday final.

The teams were pooled in two groups with the top two advancing to the knockout stage in the week-long tourney that kicked off on January 19 in Ibadan and Ijebu Ode, Abuja, Nigeria.

“It was a nice experience for me exploiting my potential fully by clocking 90 minutes in each game,” Lokuwam said after jetting back on Monday.

“I believe I am capable to doing more with enough playtime. The golden boot has motivated me to continue working hard for a starting berth at Gor Mahia.

“I want to improve from last season performance when I resume training with the team on Thursday,” added the third year Economics and Finance student at Kenyatta University, who scored two goals for K’Ogalo in all competitions last season.

A total of nine universities took part in this maiden championship aimed at breeding African student football champions who could compete with their counterparts at the World Students Football League according to the president of ASFU Prof. Seun Omotayo.

“The objective is to give opportunities for students with football skills to use their skills and talent to secure livelihood by being gainfully employed in the world of professional football,” Omotayo is quoted on Nigerian website Politicaleconomistng.

“ASFU provides opportunity to combine education and football and secure a future after retiring. Major among the benefits are the scholarship opportunities and enhanced chances of breaking into the world of professional football,’’ he outlined further.

Apart from Kenyatta University, Ghanaian University of Development Studies and University of Zimbabwe, Bulawayo were the other invited outside Nigeria.

Meanwhile as we continue gnashing our teeth with the unending sufferations caused by Francis Mustapha’s antics we continue letting such young talents slip away from our grasp. When i keep repeating that we need to rest aged players and give this boys a chance am told am demeaning legends. When together with Siang’a we scouted young boys from high school across the country and brought unknown young promising talents such as Anthony Akumu Agay..George Blackberry..Kevin Ade Omondi…Calabar Owino….Ali Abondo…Rama Salim…Edwin Lavatsa amongst others they were just unknown novices. I remember calabar warming the bench endlessly after coming in from Sher Karuturi until he got his chance and took it with both hands. I repeat GM needs rebuilding not recycling of old guards. The core of the team must be centred around young talented boys the likes we keep losing to other clubs needlessly due to starving them of game time and relegating them to oblivion
