Akumu heads to Sudan
Gor Mahia midfielder Anthony Teddy Akumu will join Sudanese top tier side Al Khartoum FC on a six-month loan deal. This according to a story posted in the Daily Nation.
The club’s Secretary General Chris Omondi told the Nation that both clubs have agreed on the loan terms and the player’s personal terms have been met.
“I can confirm that the club executive have agreed to loan midfielder Antony Akumu to Sudanese side Al Khartoum for the second half of the season which is in line with our player development measures. We (Gor Mahia) have agreed terms with the club who have also on their part met the player’s personal terms,” confirmed Omondi.
Gor Mahia will be looking for a replacement for Akumu during the June transfer window.
“We are looking for a suitable replacement to beef up our midfield during the June transfer window as we continue to strengthen our squad for the second leg of the season with the guidance of the technical bench,” added the secretary.
Akumu has been a mainstay at defensive midfield for the club for over 4 years now. he was a favouite of former coach Zdvarko Logarusic who even took him to the Indian Ocean Islands for the return leg against Anse Re-Union in 2013. This despite the fact that Akumu was not eligible to play. In 2012 he was voted KPL midfielder of the year. At the time he attributed his success to Logarusic. “I owe everything to the coach. When he came, he told me that I had the potential and he wanted me to give my best. The confidence, the trust and his tactics has made me what I am today.” said Akumu at the time. And in 2011 he attended trials at Danish side Randers.
Other Players
Other players whose contracts have expired include midfielders Rama Salim and Eric Ochieng, with Omondi refuting claims that the former Congo United player has been linked to Tanzanian giants Simba SC.
“We have not received any official communication from any club that wants the signature of Rama. The issue of Simba approaching him are just rumours.”
“I want to appeal to our supporters to continue supporting the club financially since we are still in the process of acquiring a sponsor,” Omondi added.
Kenga
Shaban Kenga will most likely return to Bandari despite the best efforts to keep him in the squad.
Gor Mahia are in negotiations with Bandari who want their forward Shaban Kenga back after his six months loan deal lapsed Wednesday.
“We are still in talks with Bandari to extend Kenga’s stay since the player has indicated he want to stay at Gor. But we know his club wants him back because they are struggling in the league,” Omondi added.
Let them go, financially we are not in good position.
You don’t loan out your regulars/star players & accept back fringe players who have not even made an impact in the “small” teams they were loaned out to.
Sadly Akumu’s deal seems more likely a move towards aleviating the financial crisis @ K’galo.
The much hyped 350100 harambee may be fizzling out (as is accountability for it), don’t hear much about the 1M membership drive.
Why does’nt EC give the GM cooperative idea a try?

Why are we selfish to our players? While personally we want to go for greener pastures we don’t wish our players the same. I wish Teddy follows his dream and gives the chance to other upcoming players. Even Chelsea , Barca and others are releasing some of their best players and getting in fesh blood.
We need to do that in Gor else when will Kariuki, Onyango and others get a chance to play. Even Jerry is wanted at Simba SC , so if we get a good deal and the players are comfortable with it, why not?
@ Dan Original the point is Mighty Gor Mahia is a dream club that can attract the “better” players in East & Central Africa.
The one & only reason why this is not so is MISMANAGEMENT & CORRUPTION WHICH ARE RIFE AT THE CLUB & WHICH FANS & MEMBERS ARE POWERLESS TO CURB.
Do we always have to resort to ugly scenes when results don’t go ur way. How do we expect sponsors to come by yet we cannot even register as fans going by the number who have done so by now?
