Attention shifts to Mashemeji derby

Gor Mahia put an end to what was a miserable week by hammering Young Africans 4-0. This came 2 days after CECAFA announced that it was lifting the 2 year ban it had imposed on Kogalo for player misconduct.

Against Young Africans, Ephrem Guikan became only the sixth player in Gor Mahia’s history to score a brace. The others being William Ouma “Chege”, Allan Thigo, Peter Dawo, Sammy Onyango and Mungai Kiongera.  Dawo scored a brace against Marine of Somalia and also against Dragons of Benin. Sammy Onyango scored a brace against Entente of Togo while Kiongera struck twice against Anse Re-Union.

Coach Kerr was full of praise for his Ivorian striker.

“I really congratulate striker Ephraim for grabbing a brace. I hope he will continue scoring going forward.” said Kerr to goal.com

Another player who stood out against Young Africans was Humphrey Mieno whose passes led to three of the goals.

Gor Mahia now hope to take their fine form to the mashemeji derby which will be played this Sunday at Kasarani. Coach Kerr and his crew are keenly aware of the importance of the derby.

“The players are aware how important the derby is to the team and to the fans as well and they have to give it their all. Our opponents also know there are bragging rights in this one and I believe they are also looking to upset us. We will approach the match with the seriousness it deserves.” he said to the KPL site.

Gor Mahia beat AFC Leopards 1-0 in the Supercup in January of this year. The two sides met at Afraha to decide who would play Hull City. Gor Mahia won on penalties.

  • I pray that Gor meets Enyimba du Nigeria. Coming second will be a better deal than meeting Djoliba. Muslim countries(including Arab) are not the best hosts. Let this happen at a later stage. Even while playing away, teams from these countries tend to be theatrical, rough and bad tempered. The problem with Enyimba is their bad potato field stadium. Unless they decide to host it elsewhere the pitch I saw will give Gor problems. It’s grass but the ball bounces as if there are “warus” laying about the pitch.
    Can’t wait for 29th…
I 4got that Afc Leopards still exists. Sad that I’m nolonger interested in this so called shemeji derby. After getting into the Africa scene where football is high-voltage, I can only yawn. All the same, victory to Gor.

  • The ruthlessness with which K/galo ripped apart Yanga was truly world class , the defence splitting passes by Mieno were similar to what I saw Luka Modric display in the world cup , could it be that such display is courtesy of Rachier giving back to the club his findings from his recent trip to the Russia world cup or is it just a coincidence and by the way , was any of the world cup bound Mps at Kasarani e.g Kaluma and Omanga?
I ponder as I await to see scattered pieces of a leopard on sunday .

Gor is on a ruthless and unapologetically so, form. It’s better we take every available opportunity to pile misery on whoever comes our way especially, the toothless leopards!

If it means beating them to pulp very so be it!

This SGT(Standard Guage Train) is unstoppable this season. Wow unto whoever will fall on its path!

For a long time I have never seen a composed GOR loke what I saw on Wednesday, that is what they should do against Leopards, be composed, take your chances and score.I am sure Leopards will come with” hammer and tongs” to ok bichalonegi. I am looking foward to a very intesive match, of course GOR has the upper hand, Leopards want to prove a point , hawana chao!

I watched our CECAFA matches against Vipers and Azam and I point out here that Humphrey Ochieng’ Mieno was in a class of his own in those matches. What he displayed against Yanga shows consistency and that is good for him, for Ker, for Gor Mahia, but bad news for Zapata and his Efusi.

We know that Efusi will pull all stops just to beat us even if it means having to spread lies. This talk about Zapata unhappy in the Den is a white lie that is meant to make Gor Mahia drop his guard and approach the game with overconfidence. Another blatant lie is the talk about Efusi not intending to use their June signings in the derby. How do you recruit so well, so extensively and expensively and fail to use them in a fixture that you last won in 2016? Fortunately the K’Ogalo family is not that gullible. The single most important reason for Efusi to strengthen is to beat us and we are well aware of that.

Ker should just prepare our boys without leaving anything to chance. Considering the tribulations we just went through, we would do with another 3 – 0 roll over Efusi. Tunayo kazi moja tu, tunayo kazi moja.
    Kazi ni kumlaza Efusi.
Sababu ya kumlaza tunayo. Uwezo wa kumlaza tunayo na niya ya kumlaza tunayo…… Tunayo kazi moja tu, tunayo kazi moja.

I don’t want to be the Prophet of Doom here but I am a worried man to speak the truth. I have observed here before that Kogallo tends to player better when in international assignments but plays not so impressively when in local assignments. Reason for that is beyond my Imagination.

So our players, please, do not be over buoyed by your recent good form in the regionals and became complacent against efusi. The derby knows no form.

Wish Kogallo a win on Sunday.

    • Any way it is your preferred opinion in connection with your observation, but now that they remain unbeaten in the local scene. To many that explains that they are exceptional. And now that we are going for a war, we must always expect a win.

Hehehe. I hear you bro. Was just trying to caution the boys not to get too comfortable. Efusi are gona throw everything they have at us. In the words of Zemaria, “They will make 200% effort”

  • Whilst the coming mashemeji derby is the biggest game in the life of a leopard , for as its just another game or rather another inconvenience , an inconvenience brought about by the fact that we are the sole giants in a land of football dwarfs , but that being so , the inconvenience notwithstanding , it behoves as to be as ruthless as we can possibly be when dealing with a stray leopard , but with them being shemeji I suggest that we temper mercilessness with mercy and 4-0 would be mercy enough .
As to the mindgames Zipapa is trying to play , about benching 6 of his first eleven , well I have seen mindgames before and this one is so low budget that it should be reserved for his fellow peer dwarfs in the league that geographical circumstanceshave forced as to share with them .
As far as mindgames are concerned, such as being played by Zipapa behoves me to say that even foolishness or gullibility should be accompanied by some iota of intelligence and these games he is trying on as may aggravate wanton/ruthless/merciless punishment .
I have all along wished for Efusi to get back to the level to give as some competition but they have some EC that have made ours inadvertently look so so successful .
Finally , all I ask is that let their be peace, both before and after the football genocide , its still a Friday but I have started celebrating the derby win , just like I celebrated the midweek thrashing of Yanga last weekend .

Let’s chest thump and brag after the final whistle.
It’s a derby and form doesn’t always count.
It’s a game that could go either way.Afc need the points and the bragging rights as much as we do so let’s not underrate them!!

Triple boost for Mashemeji Derby excites Shakava
    3 HOURS AGO STAFF WRITER
A chance to go 12 points clear at the top of the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) standings is here for Gor Mahia when they face arch rivals AFC Leopards in the Mashemeji Derby on Sunday 22nd July.

Gor Mahia will be boosted by the return of midfielders George Odhiambo, Ernest Wendo and Innocent Wafula all who missed the midweek win over Yanga SC in the CAF Confederations Cup.

The team’s skipper, Harun Shakava says the availability of the trio is a big boost on their confidence and having beaten Yanga 4 – 0, he says their morale is well intact.

    Confidence

“Odhiambo and Wendo had injuries while Wafula did not register for CAF, but their presence ahead of our meet with AFC has injected confidence in our club.

“We have prepared well, the win against Yanga SC has also given us a morale booster. We feel we will win against Leopards on Sunday,” he said in a media briefing ahead of the derby.

Gor coach Dylan Kerr has been juggling the team but they have still managed to perform, in a season the team has played a lot of matches and Shakava is confident that whoever is called up will deliver,

“I’m glad that everyone in the team is capable of delivering, so there is no alarm even when the squad is rotated by the coach,” he added.
