Brazilian Giovani Rodriguez set to depart Gor Mahia

After much fanfare and intrigue, it appears Gor Mahia are set to formally part ways with Brazilian striker Giovani Rodriguez Bissolli.

The striker had arrived in Kenya amid much anticipation and excitement created when the club announced that it was signing a Brazilian. The club management went into overdrive calling everynews outlet to drum up publicity.

When Rodriguez finally arrived, the multitude of fans who went to watch him at City stadium exprienced a fair amount of cognitive dissonance. The Rodriguez they saw at City stadium is not the one that they saw in the youtube videos, one of which was posted on this column.

The Rodriguez of the youtube videos showed immaculate technique, good movement, fluidity and vision. The Rodriguez who arrived here seemed out of shape,  unsure of himself and lacking in technique.

Last year with the Felixinho debacle, it was the Nigerian who arrived in Kenya to market himself. This time it was Kogalo management who went in search of Rodriguez.

It is not readily clear whether it was Rodriguez who misrepresented himself or whether it was the club that did not do its homework.

When fans found that he had been playing in Bangladesh then warning signs started to sound as we all know the Bangladeshi league is not up to scratch. And if a Bangladeshi team was not interested in him then it is unlikley that he would succeed at Gor Mahia.

In the end however, coach Zdvarko Logarusic has apparently told various news outlets that Rodriguez is not part of his immediate plans. He told supersport “I can confirm to you I will not be taking Rodriguez to the Nyanza tour as he has family issues at home and is already home sick so I have to only take only the players who are conditioned and ready for the friendlies,”

Other sources at the club indicated that since Rodriguez did not meet the club’s standards, he was being let go. The fate of his contract where he was supposed to earn sh 150,000 per month for two years remains to be seen.

Call him Waiganjo or whatever but this re-enactment of Nikolai Gogol’s Government Inspector has certainly reaffirmed K’Ogalo’s position in the footballing world, more particularly as an ubsurdity. If it is true that he has left GM by mutual understanding then we should count ourselves very very lucky. But we should stay warned: next time we may not be so lucky because we may have to pay for such a costly blunder through the nose.

In today’s daily nation page 56 Mr. Bwana seems not to agree with the decision to send Waiganjo packing when he says, “Rodriguez is still a Gor player”.
Mr. SG why should we waste funds paying somebody who will not add value to the club? Are you now over ruling the technical committee. Is it by force that he has to join Gor?

Just like every other season, K’Ogalo wanted to start the new season with a bang. The news that the club is signing a brazillian was greeted with excitement and wild expectations.

The Kenya news outlets was jammed with curious football fans who wanted to know about this lad. That was just before hurricane Logarusic landed after a very long holiday on his native Croatia.

The coach did not mince his words about the kind of player he wanted to fit his programme.
And to the suprise of many, comrade Giovanni is now a persona non grata a t Gor Mahia- at least for now.

Coach Logarusic courage and no nonesense attitude is much welcome especially at this club where a few people wants to keep the lad just for pride never mind the huge price on his head. The Executive Committe must at all times justify their huge spending. General Bwana owe this club an explanation especially on whose directive this lad found it’s way to Gor Mahia. Over to you SG!

Oooh Laa la..!!!! I like this JA-BRAZIL SYNDICATE..!!!

@ ADMIN the third paragraph of this article depicts you as an accomplice in this whole saga and when i internalize deep inside soul; then It appears like someone (Read “Executive Community”) was trying to use this site as a an under-cover medium of introducing “WAIGANJO” to GM fraternity.

Please clarify to bloggers the original source of the Youtube video posted on this blogsite depicting that it was “JA BRAZIL” and why was it deleted immediately he jetted into country?. Is there a collaboration or ?

  • I think this is has set very high standards for Gor and any other Team that may want to recruit foreign players. It does not matter where a player comes from if they can not meet the standards set. It also presents a good picture on our Country in terms of Soccer. I also think that other good players in Brazil will want to experience playing in our league because they is thirst for good football. This event has also provoked me to think about our players who go out there to try their luck, how are they treated when they do not meet the standards in those clubs. Perhaps this is food for thought.

Good decison. That’s why I love Logarusic. He has just saved GM from unnecesarily spending 150,000/- per month over a non-performer.

Who identified this ‘boy’ and why din’t EC pick Olando or Black Berry? Anyway the vacancy can be filled by an experienced striker.
