Bwana Explains Financial Status

Gor Mahia secretary General George Bwana has come out to explain the financial status of the club to its fans.

In a detailed Facebook posting on the Gor Mahia page, he outlined the figures as he sought to expound on the team’s balance sheet.

The technical bench and players salaries take the huge chunk with Kshs1,232,000 which is separate from coach Zravko Logarusic salary which amounts to Kshs250,000.

Gor have so far only played one home match and most of their revenue comes from gate collections which they depend solely on it and the sponsorship grant from SuperSport which every team in the Kenyan Premier League is entitled to.

Players are paid a winning bonus of Kshs154,000 while transport also takes a crucial chunk of revenue.

  • EC Members please make sure you remain Ceaser’s wife regarding all Gor Mahia finances. The finances belong to the club with players’ welfare being given the first priority. Any financial misappropriation might lead any member of the Executive Committee to jail.

Let us be prudent with all the monies that come into the coffers of the club. Sometimes we feel saddened by some officials that are purporting to be recovering or reimbursing the monies the have used from their pockets. Such officials have denied the club lots of money through all forms of misappropriation such as:-
    – printing of fake match tickets,
    – illegal sale of club merchandises,
    – failure to account for sponsors money,
    – failure to account for TV broadcasting monies,
    – failure to account for donations from well-wishers and other dedicated fans,
    – false claims on mileage of the bus,
    – failure to produce evidence of fuel usage or maintenance services of the club bus etc
    – failure to give audited account to members which should be done annually or semi annually

Let us commit ourselves to the club ideals without any reproach. To officials purporting to be recovering their monies, we know you very well and we are going to expose you to the public. None of the fans forced you to be an official of the club as you brought yourself. Note that your days are numbered and we are going to catch up with you very soon.

To me, explanations ar not clear an are half done, as said by the two guys above, an external opinion report is urgently needed to prove anybody’s innocency, if not, some of us ar accountants an cn help where necessary.

  • As much as we accuse the EC (I’m under no obligation to support anyone in this matter) the SG has invited us as stakeholders to go and review the books of accounts for the club. Until after someone will have done that the est of what everyone says are just allegations. So far I have not seen anybody accusing anybody of anything. What is required is evidence. The fact that we pay entrance fee religiously does not mean that the club cannot have financial difficulties since ther are cases all the money goes to the other team when we are not at home, something some of our fans are not privy to. As fans let’s police the EC so that our payers are not distracted. especially at this time. It’s obvious that not all the EC members can pass the intergrity test but us fans we should also not base our responses on emotions or hearsay but facts. Who will be the first to take SG’s challenge to review the books and get us the official position (not the EC position)?

Dan i will disagree with u kidogo.why should we walk to the office yet they can publish it on the wall again a loyal fan from Mombasa coming all the way to Nairobi to verify the books?Am not criticising anyone but we are on technolgy era.

  • @Dan, have you ever seen Gor Mahia Audited Account? Who are our auditors?

I think you are totally wrong on your comments calling us fans to go and inspect the records…which records is SG talking about? Do we have the club’s audited accounts. Our inspection can beging from the club’s autheticated audited books of accounts but not on records which are not subjected to external audit. Will you trust records prepared by SG? I do not agree with you at all in this matter.

All the incomes receipts and expenditures of the clubs must be subjected to external audit.

  • Guys, let’s get this right. It’s not me saying we go check the books but the SG. Which one is easier? Us going to check the books or waiting for something the SG won’t do i.e. to publish the books in the media. What does the club constitution say on accounts verification? Who should verify the books? The fans, the branches or the fully paid-up members. Does the law require us to be audited by a certified auditor yet we are not a registered company or partnership? Unfortunately answers to these questions will bring out the rality that GM is registered more of a welfare club or chama and these are the things we need to change as GM fans. Guys we need to know that going to Old Trafford and buying a ticket to watch them does not give you rights to challende the Glaziers. Let’s find out if the GM constitution has loopholes we need to be block. Otherwise whoever we elect in office will still be exposed to the same environment. By the way what is the role of our branch chairmen? Ain’t they the people to handle such on our behalf. Looking inside hata sasa just forming a branch imetushinda. We just lament but we are also still where we were on forming a branch three/two years ago. As I pen off we should never tire to ask the EC questions but also never forget that the EC reflects the general thinking of the GM family. Afterall we were the ones who elected them

@Dan, I agree with you fully. Running a club like Gor is not a child’s play like some people on this blog want to make it appear. Your post no. 8 summerizes it very well. Instead of spending close to 1M in publishing audited accounts – in which newspaper by the way – why cant @Mwakio pay a courtesy call to Gor offices and brief some of us after the inspection. I am ready to take his word since it will no longer be a hear say but fact. For God and my club Kogallo

From managerial point of view, guys we need to think outside the box. If we already know how much we need to pay per month to players and technical bench in comparison to our revenue, must we wait for only gate collections, SuperSport and the Tuzo money? I think it is the work of EC to be more aggressive and look for more sources of funds. What we are saying here is like in your house as a man the family is going hungry then you gather them to show them your payslip. This doesn’t help!

  • @kosero, the club do not need to publish accounts in the newspapers but have final accounts at the end of the year for fans and experts to scrutunize. Instead we can have abridged version of the account. Again if we are to use Kshs.1 mn for good purpose, i think this will be alright than monies we have losing to hyenas in all fronts. We have been proposing better and efficient ways of improving the club fiancial coffers but we do not have official that have zeal to pursue our good proposals.

  • We need transparency and accountability regarding the running of our club. The reality are the happenings in the club that need to be sorted out but not reactionary tactics with people who have no idea of financial reports and audited accounts. How do we attract sponsors with out proper audited accounts?

  • There must be something wrong somewhere given the amount we raise from gate collection. I think if you compare our attendance with AFC Leopards that amount need to be double. The attendance of AFC is normally almost a half GM but the amount they collect from Nyayo is either slightly more or less to GM. If there was transparent paying players allowances would not be a problem. Even announcing the collection figures with GM is A problem. When we go for next AGM this officials should all be voted out.Bwana ere only generous when they want a GM office once they are offered the generousness ends there.

  • I agree with Mwakio, you dont need to spend 1m to publish audited annual report and financial statements in the dailies. this can be placed on Gor’s official website and be read by all who cares. I am an auditor by practice and i feel its not very expensive to audit the books of small club like Gor,if need be they may also come up with interim reports to keep track of the trail. Long live Kogallo.

Its too bad a serious thing like players performing below par as a result of non payment of allowances can be politicized.

Truly is it the money thats lacking or a few known official hooligans messing the club up.

Really does it mean we come to know the club expenses only when players strike? I don’t see the imaginary complexities in running GM when suggestions to out source and tender cost and income centers has consistently been thwarted by the same people!

If anything its as well rumoured that the ceo is no longer there then are we moving forward or backward..i see people always coming up to support wrongs when the writing is on the wall. I remember contributing to the 60 million at the start of the year, was it realised and what became of it now that some players have not received their signing fees?

As the coach said that some players dont deserve to be at Gor Mahia,I think also some officials DONT deserve to be called club officials.

yes the coach is missing, politics are bad expecially in football. the team will start losing, look at Efusi, they were winning now they have stalled because of siasa.

  • @kosero and Dan, continue supporting impunity and very soon you will agree with my comments. Whether you like it or not EC must be above reproach and accountable. Can trut these gigo (garbage in garbage out) of SC? These figure are not true at all as they are fictious. We have treaser Ominde who should explain our Incomes and Expenditures statement but not Bwana. We elected Ominde to be our treasurer and from my own observations all these EC members apart from the chairman are all incompetent. SC and other officials are racing against time to run Gor Mahia coffers dry.
