Calabar retains award as Kizito is second
For the second season running, Gor Mahia’s dependable defender David Owino “Calabar” retained the defensive player of the year award he won in 2013. A just reward for a player who has been consistent for the past two years.
Dan Sserunkuma was award the golden boot award. However it is not clear why other players were even nominated given that Sserunkuma was clearly the top scorer.
Midfielder Geoffrey Kizito who has been solid and dynamic throughout was somehow beaten by Anthony Ndolo of Sofapaka in both the player of the year and the midfielder of the year awards. It is not clear why Sserunkuma was not nominated for this award.
Allegations of cheating
A report by the Standard indicates that there was widespread bribery and side deals conducted by the coaches who were assigned to do the voting.

This is kenya for you,money,money,money.
The only 4 players that stood out throughout the season were dan sserenkuma, baba kizito, walusimbi and david owino. We need to tie this players to long term contracts.
A fair reflection of how the season faired………I think ndolo and kizito were in a class of their own and they deserved the recognition. Midfielders that control the tempo of the game, played in almost every game within the season and most importantly scored crucial goals.
Jerim was substandard through out the season and some of the goals kogallo conceded were simply out of lack of communication with defence and his positioning. Jairus Adiya deserves it as chemilil conceded the least goals in the league.
Just because gor mahia players did not get key awards does not mean the whole exercise is corrupt. Sometimes let us be critical with out team and to remember BW comments ‘ the team is full of average players” .
Corruption, corruption, corruption….Kenya Coaches and this is why Kenya football will continue to lag behind. Dan was top scorer and our haters have done it again.
This selection should be done by fans throughout the country.

These coaches once told us that referees confusion is final.They don’t have wee bit an authority to cancel goals.They are not trained to be referees but managers. I have never heard this anywhere. They have dealt treacherously with Danny.Chicken gate for sure.

@ODUOR 12 i have contacted CEO and he has promised to issue the date for handing over ceremony for the “OPERATION OKOA GOR MAHIA BRAND” contribution kitty the soonest possible.
CEO has confirmed the total of Kshs 31,231 as per ODUOR 12 audit report but the media house through its marketing department has been roped in to give the CHAMPIONS an opportunity to market their brand and what is pending is the approval of the budgeted amount to host the event. I will promptly keep you posted.
The awards to me is a true and fair reflection of the KPL players performance in 2014.

To all GOR MAHIA FC & FRATERNITY , It is now TIME to focus on 2015 with all the challenges and inspirations . We do NOT have to prove to anybody that we are champions whether they deny us trophies or awards .
We shall remain stronger and stronger . We have fought many battles in 2014, 2015 therefore becomes the ICE on the CAKE .
Let us FOCUS and forge ahead , let us continue to do social events eg. Cleaning Hospitals or visiting the Sick at Machakos General Hospital . We are bigger than local coaches who specilize in NEGATIVE energy and giving funny comments .
