Rachier and officials are slowly undoing 3 years of progress
Ambrose Rachier has been going around telling everyone who will listen how he rescued this club from near oblivion to the great heights it has scaled recently. Indeed this very blog has praised Mr. Rachier as a breath of fresh air compared to the dark days of Erastus Okul when the club was relegated twice and looked like it might go extinct.
That being said, leaders are judged based on what kind of leadership they provide during a crisis. A good ship captain is one who is able to steer his ship to safety in stormy waters. An excellent ship captain is one who is able to foresee coming storms and steer his ship to safety, away from the storm. Rachier has fallen flat on both counts.
The club is currently going through a string of bad results. The play has been extremely poor for a long time. Before beating arch rivals AFC leopards 3-1, the club was playing poorly yet posting a series of lucky wins. Fans expressed dismay at the dissapearance of the flowing football that the Kenyan public had come to associate with Kogalo. But the results after the AFC match are what has sent fans into a panic. Teams that are battling relegation and are full of unknown players are easily handling Kogalo which is stacked with national team players. With seven matches left, Gor Mahia has all but thrown its chances of winning the league into the dustbin. Player morale appears low. Fans are dejected. And worse still, so called club security has turned on fans, beating them with whips.
While all this is going on, Rachier has shown very little leadership. He is living on past laurels. As the club burns, Rachier is busy talking up his past record. No respectable club keeps a coach after a long string of poor results. The reason for this is simple. Coaches who stay at a club for a long time almost always run out of ideas when other teams figure out how to stop them. It is at this point that a club must make a coaching change. Some clubs do not even wait long. Inter Milan recently fired their new coach after 5 games.
When a club is seen to be unresponsive to the fans, the fans usually react by staying away from games. This has already started to happen. Once the green army dissappears, the sponsors will see no reason to stay with the club and will folllow suit. A club that is not winning, has few fans and is mostly associated with hooliganism is toxic to sponsors. And the fan anger and resulting hooliganism will continue unless something is done. And worse still, the club cannot survive without fan support. Even with sponsorship, Kogalo is highly dependent on gate proceeds.
Don’t take the green army for granted
Fans of Kenyan football who are watching the KFF/FKL elections closely are observing Rachier’s lack of leadership and wondering if he will act the same way as KFF chairman. What if the national team coach is under-performing. Will Rachier stick to his guns and keep the coach. Will he show this kind of indecisiveness. It is only recently that Harambee stars fans had to endure Antoine Hey and his incompetence. They will not be keen to go through another such episode.
Other teams have made coaching changes and are now reaping the benefits. You need not look further than arch rivals AFC Leopards for an example.
Further to that, Mr. Rachier must come forward and shed light on all the rumours surrounding the club. These stories reflect poorly on the club and must be immediately addressed. Key players who feel slighted might start to leave for rival clubs. Others might leave to escape the attendant stone throwing that occurs during a string of poor results.
Rachier must not sit back and assume that he single-handedly rebuilt the club. Fans played a pivotal role as well by organizing themselves using online forums, social media, in bars and other areas to rally behind the team. They deserve as much credit as anybody for the revival in fortunes of the club. And dont forget the efforts of other officials most notably James Sianga who built a young team that started the clubs rennaisance. The capital that Kogalo has built over the past 3 years should not be wasted.
Am not in any way inciting anyone but i think i have had enough of this heart breaks everytime i go to the stadium, which i have done consistently..There is a problem n the managmenthas ignored this fact,i wount cause trouble coz i love gor but will do my heart a favour and not attend any of our matches until things change here…my plans to travel to mombasa put off and the money i intended to use on hotel,ticket n transport go to childrens home….To the managment…pliz help gor!!!!!

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, our two greatest matches in are season are against AFC Leopards. Why is it that the management feels that we can go into these matches with our head coach gallivanting in Western Kenya on a frolic with the national team. I was a supporter of Rachier for the National Federation position but if this is the type of leadership he brings then we have another think coming. Poor. The coach ought to have been relieved of his position at Gor Mahia ages ago, Remeber we did not even have a proper pre-season as he was away at the ill fated CECAFA Championship then soon thereafter was off to that mickey mouse of a tournament the so-called “Nile Basin Cup”
Immediately after the Uganda match we will start preparing for the World Cup qualifiers against (is it?) Seychelles. Soon thereafter it is CECAFA Championship and the whole circus goes on. In the meantime other coaches are scouting other teams in KPL by attending their matches (case in point is Koops and Kimanzi)
Is this a professional way to run a soccer club? I hear we only have one training session in a day!
All this while we are charged 400/- for a VIP ticket and 200/100 /= for Russia. Fans are being taken for granted and we are tired of it!
Some players like Jerry seem to be on their comfort zones and an urgent reality check needs to made. Lavatsa’s development has also stalled and you wonder what coaching (or lack thereof) he is getting. Style up Gor Mahia Management.
@ James…i share your view…am out until things normalize. We worked so hard to rebuild Gor only for the management to start killing the club arrogantly. Since they have the sponsorship money i belive they’ll not listen to us the genuine fans.
An arrogant management/coaching style will not help.

Dan have we not complained a lot of times about the EC handling of the team..i even mentioned here that someone declared that the team was not in camp prior to the KCB match.
These incentives in AFC is led by their EC..let us ask you blind blind loyalists and supporters of the office to look for them (office) and tell them to take the team to camp and lead the incentive program..Dan what do you people take us fans for, why are you bent on politics and when we talk of ways to improve things you urge for stability and calm..lets take what is availed.
If players earn maximums of 40k per month and do not go to camp whereas some earn lower then where is the Tuzo money,gate collections and Super sport sponsorship and other donations going to..i appreciate your support to the chair and the tech bench..but of late ZD has been complaining about Harambee not going to camp early enough..when did you ever hear him complain about GM not going to camp? Can you and others who are vocal against us seeking clarifications from office and tech bench now tell that office to lead in this incentive program..kindly do that i am ready and know a lot of people are!

@Agwa I think my not taking a far-left position is being construed as supporting the status quo. I also need the changes we all aspire in GM but the mode of getting this changes is where we differ. Personally I would have asked ZD to take leave from GM till the end of the season as there is enough for him to handle in Harambee stars and his stay in GM is no longer peaceful.Why don’t we go for an institutional change instead of changing the personalities? Is our constitution vesting all the powers in one person? I hear that the Chair and his Vice missed a meeting and it became an issue. Why can’t those attending make a binding resolution which even the chair can follow. What happened to the issue of making GM a limited company so that we can buy shares? These are longterm ideas which if adopted will/might get us out of the current hole. Let’s professionalise all aspects of the team. This will mean that everyone in the team will have objectives to meet and will be appraised at the end of a predetermined time so that we don’t have to call for one to quit as it will be obvious that they have fallen short of the team objectives. Let’s not forget that all the three teams at the bottom of the table made changes on their technical bench. On the attendance of the derby it’s a personal decision but some of us will be there expecting whatever results that come out of it. Surely it’s like being in Rome and missing Inter Vs Milan or Chelsea Vs Arsenal in London or even Simba Vs Yanga. It’s unfortunate that the poor performance has taken the sting out of the green army but we cannot run away when the team needs us most. That’s what armies do , they fight to the end.
Ziko is busy pleading from the rooftops to be given more time to train with H.Stars and postponement of KPL games (why he needs 3 uninterrupted weeks is beyond me)yet EC sees it fit to give him a 3 match ultimatum.Fine but the guy does not even have the time to coach GM for all the three matches, How will the EC appraise his performance?

Writer, how many years has Sir Alex Ferguson been at Man U and Arsene Wenger at Arsenal? I dont think they have run out of ideas. In any case they have continued to dominate the EPL. i have received via MPESA about KES 10,500 from Kogallo fans in Garissa, Bungoma, Kisii, Kisumu, Busia,Meru,,,,,,,,,,,,just to buy them tickets on Friday for the Sunday’s derby. So honestly I dont understand why some of us will not be there to cheer up our boys.this is the time we must give the PLAYING UNIT all the support on earth & beyond It is my belief that this season we shall beat ingwe 3 times (KPL TWICE, FKL IF THEY PROCEED). If the management is the problem, then certainly not the players. If you have a problem say with your spouse you certainly do not transfer your anger to the kids. ON SUNDAY WE MUST BE THERE FOR KOGALLO, people will come & go but certainly not Kogallo.
SUPESPORT has reported that on sunday ZICO will watch from the terraces coz he doesnt want the blame. It is my hope that he remains cemented on the terraces far away from Kogallo forever.

Rachier has literally killed Kogalo. The writer could not have put it in a better way. Keeping quiet and hoping that Zico can turn around a club he has brought to it’s knees is pure illusion. The problem with our team is the divide created by duties of the Chairman and head coach to National offices. Why cant these guys vacate office and serve one. Either Gor or Harambee stars. Now Zico is in western with Harambee stars while the head coach of AFC LEOPARDS is with his troops and motivating them. Even Mumias Sugar head has promised the players cash INCENTIVES. Its so discouraging to our boys. Even if we beat Leopards the long term problem will still hang on our heads. Kindly Racher provide leadership!

Arsenal are playing up to their potential. If Arsenal fans are satisfied with him then he should stay. Meanwhile GM are not playing up to their potential. So its time for Zeddi to leave. Time for the team to go in a different direction. Even if a coach wins the league one year and plays poorly next year, he must leave. This is how coaching works.

This office is operating with impunity. Even before we ask them to resign and vacate we need transparency. How is our money being used. If it were not us the sponsors would not come in. If it were not us fans no amount of gate collections being witnessed now would suffice. If it were not us even the team replica shirts would not be sold to neutral parties. If it were not us football in Kenya would not be arising from ashes. If it were not us Rachier and Zico would not plying their trialists with National offices. Its time we rose up and asked questions on how every shilling is being used at the club. Why should our inlaws pay much salaries than us? They sacked coaches when they deemed fit. They changed the chairman when they thought he was bringing confusion and clanism. They opted for non luhya in Magelo and he is doing a fantastic job. All Arise and we need books of accounts audited by reputable firm. My team K’GM.
I think as Gor fans we have seen what vacuum in leadership can do to a club and it would be suicidal for us to push our chairman to national seat as he is not able to weather the storm.As kogalo fraternity tusijiaibishe by pushing him up coz hataweza and the mighty GOr will always be mentioned when outlining his failures. For those in capital city why not organize something and facilitate us to mpesa towards motivation of players for the match.with this i can assure u we will win.
Rachier and co. do not have to look far to learn what they should do or should have done. Look at the amazing transformation in Ogwang.
Kogalo’s poor outing this season can be attributed to an irresponsible and unresponsive EC led by Rachier. These guys missed a golden opportunity to turn Kogalo around. If only they were in touch and took advantage of our first leg win over Leopards! That was what any team would require to instil self belief and confidence amongst the players: to make them believe that no team could stop them. With the right incentives from the EC we could have clinched the title by now!
I believe that the way things stand now, the league will be won by the club with the most efficient and well organized management. And that is what the current top five teams are about.
Kowino (29) we should reward the boys whether they win or not. Lets look at Amimo(22), whenever you have a problem with your wife/husband you sort it out but leave out the innocent children.The idea of reward is welcome nomatter what happens in the field.I would like to see more reason, more calls for calm and peace before, during and after the match.Kogalo will be here after we shall all have gone, there is no need to stain that mighty name just for mere loss of one, two or three matches.
As @Kowino puts it I think we should now desist from wasting our energy on the shortcomings of ZD and AR but concentrate on the derby as well as finishing in a respectable position. If the office term expires in the next two months as @Kowino puts it then what a better way to install a dream team in that office. Otherwise let’s paint the team green and white on Sunday. @Kowino just reminded us of how we went to Sudan after the coach and several top players were suspended by CAF after the Zamalek tie. That time AFC was as motivated as they are now but we blanked them 2-0 in the final and came back with the Cup. So I can see a repeat of the same considering what is coming from the players. They have acknowledged that they have let the fans down ( see gorf.com) and are working to change all that come sunday.
Thank you all brothers for all the contributions.Let us give to the players positive energy now that we all know that we do not have a head coach and chairman.I believe their assistants should now step forward and do a good job.
However, come election time we must go for tested individuals to lead GM other going for a crafted line up of crooks as is the case now.

Don’t throw any stones or bottles after losing on Sunday. The resolutions i’m reading here are exactly what i had before KCB, exactly what i had before Congo. There is no need of talking about rewards at this point in time. We have attended all matches season long and witnessed good, average and poor performance home and away. Isn’t that better than some 200k for one game. Zico is sitting out the match coz of his doubts on his own team and assistants and we think we know them better.
I hope to see the spirit everyone seems to be adopting whether we win or loose.
Stars are just starting their busy schedule as someone pointed out earlier. What Gor needs is to start rebuilding. Ingwe is just another team in the league. I wonder why all cries for change should stop because of AFC and not Ulinzi who are the champions. The seriousness with which we take Ingwe also reflects on the playing unit. The last and only great game of this season was against them. We take AFC seriously but throw away points to teams we despise. It means we are in the league just to beat the Leopard. Since 1995 we have beaten the leopard on so many occasions but there are no titles to show for it. I suggest the officials come up with a Shemeji Cup just to excite the two sets of fans who clearly have the numbers in Kenya.
This is the second game of the ultimatum given by the EC and so what is needed at this time is for the management to release three names of prospective coaches. We don’t want to hear of a funny fellow appointed after three loses with no vetting.

@Kowino previously I suggested an Mpesa branch/business no. whereby fans could easily reward the players and contribute to the club while their membership is update. That was months ago yet the office has not facilitated anything.Mpesaing money is something that is built on confidence and trust. Why not hold a imprompto harambee for the team immediately after the match(if they win) @ centre stand and the collections are announced immediately by a recognized GM official.This mpesa membership idea should be taken up by the office. I will be their to cheer my K’galo if they entertain and win but I will also jeer any mediocre play.

As we show our solidarity with the team at this time of crisis, we must not entertain sycophancy in our midst!I’ve read the views being expressed from some quarters in this site and ask my self the question; do we solve a problem by creating more problems or by coming up with real solutions to the problems? When it comes to the competence of the players of GM, i have no doubt in them at all. It’s high time the management of the team changed because they’re the problem!
I have fought battles on this blog, been called all sorts of names, but for once I am humbled by the change of heart by the hardliners. I wish we could continue like this until the end of the season, then put our house in order then. Indeed there is a problem all of us appreciate that fact, we are only differing on when and how to solve it. @Ocampo, @Ja Thur gi Ji, @Dan,@Sam Dola and the rest of Kogallo comrades, I am impressed. i am yet to make up my mind since Zedekiah will still be around i feel i will keep off but with alot of pain if the team wins am willing to contribute directly into the mpesa number but i am not attending the match i dont like Zedekiah working at gormahia i just dont like i will miss you all but am sorry even if he is in the stand i dont like it all the same wish you well kogallo family
JB you have to change your mind lest you be prepared to agonize over GM for the rest of your Fanning time!
If we keep off the following will happen:
1. There will be no change coz change is driven not only by right thinking members but also by participation..you won’t participate when you keep off.
2. The people who come to GM to be officials to print fake tickets and steal the gate collections will forever continue with the vice and pass it over to their offspring if members do not put up structures to professionally run issues of the club.
3. Jersey sales and other income sources like sponsorship will forever be shrouded in mysteries as the big man syndrome reign supreme.
4.The boys will feel isolated by their parent, brothers, sisters and friends and will soon abandon GM..you’ll also be lonely and idle for missing something real to associate with.
Remember a few years ago when we could count our numbers in the stadia, we asked questions on the way forward and we only failed to get the structures right.
As i believe you love GM and other many people do lets carry on with hope and we’ll exercise our birthright and opportunity for responsibilty to make GM what its meant to..am impressed the statement is u’ve not made up your mind..kindly make it up that you’ll be there..guys lets just come we’ll enjoy.
@Agwa that’s good advice and we expect more JBs out there to come out in full. Bad leaders are created by good citizens who don’t vote or particpate in their governance. I rememeber friends who missed the first game because of the history of violence only to regret when the game became the talk of the town. I also hope my friend @Kosero will also be in town for the game. At the stadium we will get some other hurting souls and you never know a revolution in GM can start from there.
@Agwa Kassam thats is a solomonic advice. That’s the attitude we should inculcate among Kogallo followers. Very positive indeed. @Dan, I would have loved to be physically present unfortunately I will not be in the city. However I will follow the proceedings from our Kampala Sofaset branch :-). For God and my club Kogallo.

You Kogalo fans must have noted that Ticket Masters attributed low ticket sales to the low number of Gor fans as compared to the last match with Ingwe. I attended the match, and vowed never to attend any other Gor match until I see positive results! This position applies to a host of Gor fans I have spoken to! Rachier and Co. take note!!!
