Former Gor Mahia striker Michael Olunga has scoreda major milestone in his career. Swedish side Djurgården has signed him to a four year contract. Olunga was elated at the development.
“I am very happy things have been finalised and I am officially a Djurgården player after successful trials. I was very impressed with the reception I got in the team and I promise to give them my best in all the matches.” After getting the opportunity the job of delivering starts immediately as I have to score those goals as required,” Olunga told supersport.com.

It goes to show that Gor Mahia as a club is a very good platform for a player who wants to showcase his skills to European scouts. Olunga follows in the footsteps of George Odhiambo “Blackberry” who signed a four year contract with Danish side FC Randers in 2010. Olunga is different in that he has the technical skills and tactical awareness that are required by European sides.

Even sports director Bosse Andersson is impressed with Olunga’s technical skills.

“We are very happy, he has impressed us, he has incredibly good characteristics,ts director.
He has an extreme ability to score, he will go a long way as a footballer, says Bosse Andersson.

Anderson is also impressed with Olunga’s personal motivation.

“He has huge potential, he has high standards for himself. It will be a pleasure to work with the engineer. We have had a good dialogue with his club (Liberty Academy ). This is a long-term solution, it is important that he gets to feel safe with us, says Bosse Andersson.

Future potential

Anderson thinks that Olunga’s hard work and focus will take him to the biggest leages in Europe.

“He is very ambitious and focused, he trains hard and always wants to learn and take the next step. Then I think he made a fantastic impression as a person both on and off the pitch. His development potential is huge and the low pressure environment of our Djurgården club will allow him to develop into a striker for the biggest leagues in Europe. It is his goal of Michael and he has the characteristics required for it.
