Eric Ouma “Marcelo” man of the moment again

It is very rare that a defender much less a left full back can be seen as playing a pivotal role in the attacking fortunes of a team. But such is the case with fast rising youngstar Eric Ouma “Marcelo”. Not much was thought of him when he joined Kogalo straight from Kakamega high school. But ever since he was given a chance to showcase his abilities, he has proven his mettle.

On Sunday yet again he played a pivotal role in Gor Mahia’s win over Thika United with pin-point deliveries to Jacque Tuyisenge that resulted in both goals.

Brazilian Tactician Ze Maria who also refers to his charge as “Marcelo” is full of praise for the youngster.

“He gives us quality and more dimension. He’s a quality player and at his age, he has a lot to offer and we are pleased to have him.” he said to the Nation.

Ouma appears strong balanced and comfortable both in attack and defence, something he credits to the fact that he has played in all positions.

“I’m a utility player and can play in any position. I used to be a striker before and I’m enjoying myself.” he said.

And Ouma knows that it is hard work that will enable he and the rest of the team to excel.

“The aim is to play and work hard and keep moving,” he told Daily Nation Sport on Monday. “We did well (against Thika) and my focus is to help Gor win the league, God willing.” he concluded to the Nation.

Without a doubt he is a good player still learning the ropes.however he needs to keep his feet on the ground and not get distracted by praise or agents otherwise he may just end up going the same route that Kevin omondi,Ibrahim Kitano and akina Masika took!!

    • I beg to differ i see (& pray) this talented player going the way Sammy “Kempes” Owino and Nahason “Lule” Oluoch. They had relatively short stays at K’galo, before leaving to pursue education/successful careers, but my were they memorable. Best of luck & God Bless your efforts/decisions “Marcelo”.

  • Why should he insist on six months contracts? If it is because he expects to leave anytime for professional football there are contracts with express exit clauses that allow a player to leave anytime an offer comes. Otherwise Gor nurtures him, gives him the exposure and gets no transfer fees in the end when he leaves!!

@Musymo, let the boy go and get some education now that he has a scholarship. A footballer’s life can be short

    Pure class no doubt.

This post while good, it is has come too fast and is overshadowing the immediate previous one on list of transfers. We need information on Odula. What is the correct position?

Some teams bring in lorry loads and ship out equal lorry loads? Look at the two cats for instance. When will they develop and mature up into competitive entities? This is jokes. Pure ruin to several careers. There should be some ceiling to the number of players a team can offload and recruit during a given transfer period.

  • Eric Ouma should sign a 5 year contract with Kogallo where the club can recoup some development fee in future…Secondly with his pin-point passes, the club should exploit this capability and convert him into a world class set piece taker – freekicks, corners e.t.c where the club is still very weak.

Thirdly, he should listen to professional players who can develop him mentally otherwise I feel this player will go down the harsh lane of other young players who have been lured by the smell of money only to halt their career even before they peak. The list of such players in Kenya is endless……

AS WE PRAISE KOGALO ON THE ANNIVERSARY OF THE CRUEL DEATH OF THOMAS JOSEPH MBOYA LET US TODAY PAUSE AND REMEMBER THE FREEDOM FIGHTER AND HERO WHO HELPED FORM GMFC. TJ WHOSE BRILLIANT LIFE WAS SNUFFED AWAY FOR SELFISH POLITICAL REASONS BY AN ASSASSIN’S BULLET WILL ALWAYS REMAIN IN OUR HEART EVEN AS GOR FC SOARS AND CONQUERS ALL!

  • I concur with Musymo emphasis must be on EXIT CLAUSE FEE (note the capital). It’s a phrase that keeps coming up in EPL/European transfers. Its upto to our EC to be transparent and put the club interests first coz am sure these 6month contracts are deliberate. GMFC provides these players with an exquisite enviroment for development-coaching, encouraging/demanding fan base, exposure etc. This exist clause can be based on the number of first team appearances, trophies so that for a player like Marcelo even if he signs a 6month contract his exit clause value appreciates with good performances at the club. EC find out how the EXIT CLAUSE OPERATES AND IMPLEMENT IT PLEASE, ONE THE 3 VICE CHAIR + 5 SECRETARIES OVER TO YOU MAKE YOUR BLOATEDNESS COUNT.

Where is Ngala to tell us about Odula? When there is good news they run to the press but when we need some answers/clarifications they disappear. Where is our EC ‘mole’ to let us know the truth?

I like Ouma but his attitude sometimes bafles me. This idea of players refering to go for university education @ the xpense of their talent is wrong. How I wish Ouma was my bro I wud’ve advised him to concentrate only on soccer as a career than go for whatever university.which uni did wanyama go. which uni did Messi go or which one did Ronaldo go. R’nt they successful in life. They’re the bilionaire of this world & nobody earns better than them. Wanyama has just signed a lucrative deal totenham .
