Fans appeal to KPL to end price gouging

According to a story in the local dailies, groups of Kogalo fans have called on The Kenya Premier league to end price gouging by teams hosting Kogalo.

Gor Mahia, who have the largest fan base in Kenya, are credited as having brought back fans to stadia during league matches. Opposing teams have been taking advantage of K’Ogalo’s large following to make a kill from gate collections. Most of the KPL clubs now want to host their home matches in Nairobi, while they hike their ticket prices up to Sh300 from the normal Sh100. Some teams have even used security as excuse to have their home matches moved to bigger stadia where they would eventually accommodate more fans, translating to more money. Home teams take all the gate collections. Ataro said KPL should intervene to save the poor Gor fans who sacrifice a lot for the sake of their team.

Gor fans need to play hard ball with the teams that are bent on picking our pockets! Teams that try to reap huge sums of money from Gor fans should be put on notice .This practice will not continue for ever!

License GM fans to sell any articles of trade such as soft drinks ,peanuts etc etc …so as to recover some of our money that we mwago at the gate.
We love the philsophy of mutual benefit.

We are not going to support the city slickers and country rancheros with our hard earned currency because they are playing against Kogalo.

  • All the teams should announce their gate charges before the start of the league. This should be documented and should not change the whole season.

They have been milking us for a long time. Are you aware that ULINZI FC team manager Mr.BIRGEN and Head coach NYAGWESO have differed due to change of venue for their match versus GM from NBI to NKR.

Birgen got a big surprise when he learnt that they only managed 490000/= although more 10000 fans attended.

Nyangweso being a CORPORAL and D+ graduate in football has no idea that when a MAJOR like Mr. Birgen suggest to D.O.D to acknowledge the need to explore football business by switching venue to NBI instead of NKR and sight insecurity as the reason was a big plus to the team.

NYAGWESO talked of hurting their fans who are based in NAKURU, but what i saw was paltry 150 people.

It made a lot of sense playing in NBI and charging Main Stand 300/= while terraces 100/= and in such a high profile match at this peak time season they could have made atleast 1.5 million.

    NB:

WHAT I NOTICED IS THAT DURING THE GOR AWAY MATCHES ONCE YOU SELL TICKETS EARLIER IN NAIROBI MAJORITY OF OUR FANS DO USE COUNTERFEIT TICKET WHICH ARE EXACT REPLICA OF THE ORIGINAL AND ARE SOLD ON THE MATERIAL DAY WE TRAVEL TO PLAY.

SO WHERE AS THEY THINK OF MILKING KOGALO SOME SMART PEOPLE ARE MAKING A KILL FROM THEIR UNWARRANTED PRICE HIKE.

    1. That is how CONGO generated only 20000/= during FKL
    cup in MSA.
    2. Ulinzi managed only 490000/= recently.

  • THIS IS OUR CRY

First i wish to pay special tribute to K’ogalo fans for trooping back to the stadium. The club fan base is growing by the day. We are now seeing increased revenue in gate collections.

This upsurge in revenue have helped a club like K’ogalo to overcome their financial problems. The players are promptly paid their allowances and well kitted. The club also have been able to offset their debts especially the huge amount imposed by IDAC.

Against such strides, many teams are now unfairly cashing on K’ogalo probably because of their huge following. The teams are printing VIP tickets even in stadia which does not have such facilities. More grave, some of these money is ending up in the pockets of some corrupt football officials.

I therefore join my colleagues to plead with our officials to forward our concern to the management of the KPL. We want them to look into the matter expediously and offer a lasting solution that is fair to us all. I believe this is not a favor but a right and we shall continue to demand.

Nonetheless let this matter make us loose the sight of the goal. Let us turn out in large numbers to cheer our team in the remaining fixtures of the KPL. I admire your resilence & loyalty. I value your companion & friendship. And to cap it all, I share your spirit which is unbreakable.

Kogalo Min timbe. Now Kogalo is feeding cash-starved clubs like Ulinzi!! I support Ataro’s sentiments.
Indeed KPL has the moral duty of protecting football fans from exploitation.
KPL must just come out strongly and put a ceiling on fees chargeable in various stadia hosting KPL matches countrywide.

I support Ataro, but remember again we’ve deliberated this issue in this forum. For one reason or another K’galo fans may be unable to attend these away games hence as suggested b4 could we have a mpesa branch where by such fans can sambaza ‘their gate fees’ to an mpesa business account no. for the benefit of the club.Such fees should be treated as membership fees so that such fans then have a right to hold the club accountable. This something which the “sofaset branch” says is not our mandate but again the mpesa branch should be different from the sofaset branch in that it financially contributes towards the clubs goals by attending home games and sambazaing gate fees for matches one is not able to attend.
