Focus shifts to local scene

After Kogalo’s ignominious exit from the CAF confederations cup, they will be seeking to redeem themselves starting this week. On Wednesday they face off against defending champions Tusker and on Sunday they face arch rivals AFC leopards. These are not easy matches and could not have come at a worse time. “It is going to be a tough match, but I believe we have to respond after a series of poor results. The players have taken their weekend loss to Ferroviario positively and are keen to revamp their league campaign with a mid week win against Tusker,” said new team manager Tom Ogweno.

After the lackluster display in Naivasha a week ago, fans will be hoping that the team plays with some sense of urgency. And there is nobody better to light a fire underneath the players than the fiery Bobby Ogolla. He is the best man for the moment. Cameroonian Anaba Awono with his fatherly demeanor and lack of eloquence was seemingly unable to inspire players as evidenced by their disinterested performance in Naivasha.

With the previous technical bench swept aside and a new team in place. It is critical that fans show some patience. Ogolla and Ogweno have been in charge of the team for less than 10 days. Let us given them sometime to settle in.

Yet there are a myriad of problems to solve. Ogweno said: “We noted a lot of mistakes against Ferroviario and we have been working round the clock to rectify the loopholes before the Wednesday match. We wasted a lot of chances despite the fact that we created a lot of chances and we dedicated two days to work on finishing because if we take our chances we can beat any side.”

Perhaps most glaring is the lack of goals. The team is seemingly unable to score goals. Part of the problem is the inability to create clear-cut chances. What seems to be happening in midfield is just a series of hopeful balls played to the strikers. Perhaps this is why fans have been asking for Rama Salim whom fans see as a potential playmaker. The strikers themselves have been unable to show poise in front of goal resulting in a series of missed chances. That lack of poise has extended to penalties where Kogalo players have shown an inexplicable inability to score from the spot.

Of course a significant issue is that fact that much of the squad has not played together for long enough to build cohesion. Bobby Ogolla touched on this: ““I think we should be starting our games with the strongest line up possible and leave that thought of a super sub.” Aside from a starting eleven, Ogolla should probably work on finding combinations that work. 2 years ago, Blackberry and Baldwin Ngwa developed a telepathic understanding thar resulted in a hatful of goals. JBO should seek to identify combinations of 2 or 3 players who can combine well.

  • I LIKE THIS ANALYSIS – THE TEAM IS UNABLE TO SCORE GOALS. GOR PLAY HAS BECOME A BORE AND WATCHING THEM YOU ARE ALMOST CERTAIN THE SCORELINE WILL BE EITHER 1-0 OR 2-0 , NOTHING OUT OF THE BLUES…….HONESTLY EVER SINCE GEORGE BLACBERRY LEFT GOR MAHIA , I THINK WE DO NOT HAVE THE CALIBRE OF STRIKERS THAT WILL TURN THE CLUB ROUND. GONE ARE THE DAYS OF PETER DAWO, HEZBORN OMOLLO, WILLIAM OBWAKA,DAN OGADA AND THE OTHERS WHO WERE ‘GUARANTEED’ MATCH WINNERS….WHERE OR WHEN WILL WE GET SUCH PLAYERS ? ? ? ? ?

  • The team is playing well and will soon start winning games.

The issue of goals is a problem even for the country. It is nothing peculiar to Kogalo. Which striker other than Oliech can you count on in the whole league when it comes to Harambee? The top team has eight goals in five matches. The team that is second has five goals. The bottom team has four goals. Look at any other leagues and you will agree that this is poor. The top scorer after 30 games last season had 12 goals.

We have had injuries to Selenga, Hugo, Lavatsa, Kiplagat, Kevin Ochieng, Kevin Omondi and these are the guys we depend on for goals.

Like someone posted earlier, look at the other teams play and you will surely believe in our team. Once more let us not always have our glass half empty.

We have good players, let us pray that we can get a good team out of them. Let us trust that we now have a coach who understands and shares our dream.

Another thing that must be looked into with urgency is taking penalts. Let Bob train atleast two pple who we can trust with penalts. take van persie of arsenal or rooney of MAN-U anytime there is a penalt its them to take. we cannot afford to be missing such golden opportunities. Rama can take penalts very well with intense cauching. Gatuzo and one of the strikers must be able to net any penalt. this is where we are going wrong. Bob please take this penalt issue as ver urgent.

After this 2 games is when we will really start seeing good results, i think we will draw with Tusker and Afc, lakini wanga is on fire. While our strikers cannot score even a penalty.

Lets’s strive at all times to uphold the quality of debates on this blog, coz after all the objectives of this blog,i believe,is to add value to this great club and build it,make it better and take it to the next level, through a healthy exchange of ideas and positive criticism without exposing and embarrassing ourselves.
My personal take on this R.M issue,is that i highly rate him and consider him one of the best hands for the job.If you may ask me,i would even give him the headcoach position. He is a strict disciplinarian,no nonsense, and gets the job done. His works are well documented. If JBO feels that R.M is the best person to do business with, well and good.Who are we to choose ,for JBO the person to work with? After all it is the shoe wearer who knows where the shoes pinches most.

    Solution
1.GM is not a national team so we can look beyond our borders if our current strikers cant perform.Personally i repeat my admiration for the Djibouti’s lead striker in the last CECAFA tourney who always managed a goal or two despite his team being whipped
2.Of coz GM will never afford a gud foreign head coach as the EC refuses 2 b transparent.AFC collected 1.05M frm their sunday game yet no figures frm our sato game which had more fans

We are not far behind the leading pack and still lots of matches to play.drows against tusker and afc and a win against ranges will see the team back on track but i’m not ruling out a win against either tusker or afc.if we can score then we are capable of beating any team since the team isn’t conceding many goals.
Afc have described possibilitity of going down to GM on sunday as EXTREMELY UNLIKELY OUTCOME.
Playing unit shoule take these sentiments by our opponents as a motivation and turn around the fotunes of the Club.
Afew weeks ago arsenal looked like they would finish in the mid table in the epl but after a resounding win in north london derby, they look like title contenders.we are not doomed yet and will never be.we just need one positive result,a win and i’m sure we’ll be back to wining ways.i’m not scared of our opponents’ form since form doesn’t play football.hardwork, prayers and confidence are all we need.
Tujitokeze nyayo kesho we cheer our team.

Loan out the excess baggage. If you select the first eleven the rest of 20 plus will always sabotage the team. Get the required number of players and will be easier for the coaches to pick the best. For Matano I still reiterate that he is a good statistician but remember what he said when he was sacked at Leopards: ‘Am a lion full of Ingwe blood in the veins. I will always be available to give my help in any way’. Yeah. Help in any way means getting to divulge top secrets of Kogalo to Ingwe, Sofa, Western Stima and the like. Call it what you can but thats what someone meant by saying he is not Kogalo damu. We will be vindicated.

There is nothing special about Tusker or Ogwang. Someone is worried about Wanga. Don’t be. Wanga is not as lethal as Baraza yet Baraza has been tamed. Wanga had to score because most defenders have not played against him for some time hence did not know how to contain him. Come our match against them he will be kept under lock and key and I clearly see victory against Ogwang with 2 goals from Masika’s blunders (he conceded one penalty against Ulinzi and gifted Muhuroni with the one goal last Sunday).

Tusker is not any threat to us at all. In other words the question of a draw against these two does not arise. We are collecting 6 points and will be 3rd on the log by Monday next week. This is not mere rhetoric; it is a statement based on fact.

1)bobby and ogweno should have reviewed clips from the DSTV cup and noted down the teams weakness.
2)our strikers should have reviewed the same tapes but this time focusing on pamzos defenders and sharing notes on how to exploit their weaknesess
3)our defenders should have also reviewed clips on tuskers forwards and noted that paul were uses one foot, mukaisi has a poor first touch and work on modalities of neutralising them.
this is what even mourinho does before meeting his opponents and dispatching them with ease.

On my bucket list this year, Godwilling, is a maiden trip to Kogelo, the ancestral home of Mama Sarah Obama, the third most powerful person in Kenya after Mwai Kibaki and RAO. My itinerary also includes tracing the roots of where my favourite club derived it’s name.
I ask for your prayers and journey mercies as i sojourn to this great but tiny village.

On the form book, Tusker are the favourites on Wednesday, but I have a word of caution for our detractors. Don’t right us off yet. We are equally determined to overturn our poor runs. The Saturday debacle is now behind us. If the words of the assistant coach, TO is anything to go by, then Gor fans should expect good results on Wednesday.

Behold, next Sunday is like no other. We will have a date with our perenial rivals, AFC Leopards. Buoyed by the current form and being the leaders in the log, ChUI is sparing no effort to humiliate us more. I also have a word of caution for them. In the military parlance,General Nkaiserry once remarked; our pants ( trousers) may be of the same size, but if each of us removes his pants, you will discover we are not the same.

I was supporting the idea of Matano but i feel at the moment it’s best to leave him out. There are fans who will bring forward all sorts of claims if we lose with him on the bench. We have to first continue with civic education to our fellow supporters to accept that in future even a ‘Shemeji’ can coach Gor. We have Lavatsa, we have Wekesa, we had Masika, we had Obwaka, Shikanda and i’m sure many more Shemeji’s before and they played their hearts out for our club but we are too quick to judge when it’s convenient for us.

Please let us be patient. We say our players can’t score penalties yet in the Peace Cup the game had additional penalties. How many penalties were scored that evening and against Matasi who is being considered the best at the moment?

Pls visit these web sites to confirm- Bbc sports/football, sky sports, goal. com. football 365, soccer play, footy latest, footy bible or eat sleep sports to confirm. The tactical and technical aspect of coaching are the two mst important jobs of a football coach / manager. JBO and TO must be able to tactically manage the team before, during and after the game. Though a very intriguing, delicate and dynamic job, we the fans of GOR MAHIA have full confidence in you. The tactical depth of your coaching ability is impressive and so I believe you will be a success wth Gor Mahia. Pls dnt forget that ths team has history on its side, and you helped create that as a player. History to rise from the ashes and to ride all the huddles and cofound its critics. Pls remember your playing days. When you could report for duty for both club and country only to sleep on the airport lounge because of missed flights or bcz there was no connecting flights. When you used the same boots and uniforms for practice and the actual match. Our players need motivational talk JBO, to raise their confidence level and self belief. These past stories of triumphs while facing some of our age-old adverseries will do more than that. None can deliver on this more than you. Tell them abt the Liberian Club- LPRC OILERS and CANON YOUNDE of Cameroun who were bth swept aside on their home turfs. Tell them how the class of 1985 swept all before them in that years CECAFA Club competition held in Sudan. Who did we thrash in the finals- again? Ingwe Leopards, that time boasting among others, the dreaded and bearded JJ Masiga. This we achieved wth a threadbare squad featuring among others new signings William Obwaka, Ben Oloo, Hesborn Omollo and Austin Oduor among others. Therefore people of good intent, this team will rise again like a Tsunami and sweep all before them. Go, go, go, Gor Mahia, for fortune favours only the brave. Gor Mahia the man was very brave and had an indomitable spirit, and so is this Team. Together we shall arise, divided we shall all lose miserably. This is the time for Gor Mahia to rise under tutleage of the Six Million Dollar Man. Good luck.
