Gattuso is captain as Kenya go down

Kenya’s Harambee stars lost 2-0 to the Walya Antelopes of Ethiopia in the opening qualifier for the 2016 CHAN. Kenya has a terrible record in this tournament having fallen to the likes of Burundi, Ethiopia, Uganda and Rwanda. They appear destined to suffer the same fate this time around despite decent preparations.

The goals that sunk Kenya were scored by Asechalew Girma in the 23rd minute and Gatoch Panom in the 77th minute. Both players play for Ethiopia Coffeee. The first goal was a result of a poor clearance by a Kenya defender. The second Ethiopia goal came from a penalty.
The Harambee Stars had a chance to reduce the score but unfortunately, Kevin Kimani saw his penalty kick in the 79th minute saved by Tarik Getnet.

Coach Bobby Williamson now has a tall order in the return leg. His side has to win by three goals and concede none. Conceding any goals will spell doom for Kenya as they will likely lose on away goals rule.

On a positive note for Gor Mahia fans, Collins Okoth Gattuso had an opportunity grow by enhancing his leadership skills and responsibility. He was given the captain’s armband by coach Bobby Williamson. Coach Gilbert Selebwa lauded the move
“Collins is an experienced lad .He has had his issues of indiscipline in the past. Under Coach Frank Nuttal he has become grounded and improved tremendously” he said to futaa.com

Also in action was Boniface Oluoch and Michael Olunga. Ali Abondo came on as a substitute.

Why wouldn’t Abondo be trusted by Williamson he wouldn’t have missed the penalty suits the coach right

How do you go to such a match with a defence which playing together for the first time?this is exposing the keeper too much! Bobby is quickly killing Bonny’s confidence and we might have a problem in second leg of the league

@jathur gi ji…what kind of defence did you want bobby to deploy?
those were the best defenders available locally…..most players are selected from different teams and it therefore takes time to form an understanding!!

  • The title of the posting is misplaced. Did Gattuso caused the Harambee Stars to lose in CHAN? Loo, Admin, I am just wondering whether you had written good and interesting composition in your high school!

  • I think good players are sighing from playing for harambee stars coz if u make a small mistake u are hounded n brushed in social media, in future u wil here so many excuses from players not wanting to play for harambee stars, some will fake diseases n injuries if this trend is not checked u will get players committing themselves at club level n joking when representing the country like Cameroon football team players, for bonny I can honestly say his confidence has gone down unless gor keeper trainer ottomax talks to this lad then gormahia might b in trouble second leg, but I have faith in nutall cause he able to instill confidence n can instill in bonny

  • BW record of loosing to minnows is now becoming a big concern. When was the last time harambee stars won ?….so Ethiopia have bigger budget than harambee stars. .give me a break. I have never been a fan of BW tactics and I think it’s high time we give the job to sam timbe.

I hope what bonny has gone through will not affect his perfomance in second leg. May I know if Paul were will be signed. Polite question. Last, in my view, Nuttal can coach Harrambee better than Bobby, I’ve never been his fun even when he was in Gor.

  • We need to reassess our inherent weaknesses when playing away matches , is it that we lack cohesion , team spirit , confidence when playing way matches ?

  • Since his time at Kogalo, I have never been convinced that BW has any tactics at all. His fielding, style of play, can make it anywhere.

  • What do you expect if Coach start with four Players from AFC? The Table tells it all, AFC, are number four, how do you leave Players from 1,2,3 and you fill four Players from number Four?

How can Noah Wafula of all KPL/FKF player in 2015 make it in H/star starting XI? He is not even closer to own Innocent Wafula or worse still Lyod Wahome is not better than OMINO of chemo or WASWA of stima!! ..JOKERS!!

And what happened to BW philosophy of working with the under 23 as opposed to recycling perennial failures.

H/Stars performers has declined to the level that instead of building players CV’s ; it is simply crashing them back into the dustbin. A case in hand is BONIFACE OLUOCH who has declined from 10 clean sheets and an average of 0.4 goals per game in KPL to leaking 1.5 goals per game after two international matches.

Am happy BW decided to quit K’Ogalo before we had a go at him. Let those headache bother Nyamweya and Co.

No wonder the plea to have Frank Nuttal assist him during H/Stars home matches. NUTTAL please assist BW otherwise he will soon be declared jobless. Hii ni “KENYA” if you know what i mean..!!!

  • To those who are are questioning the presence of Ingwe team I have this to say: why did the coach start an inexperienced player in Olunga. Instead of Jesse were? Olunga is not ready for prime time! End of Story. We are not going to get goals with this chap in H/stars. The guy has a bright future but not now. Jesse Were needs to start. We saw how many blunders the GK Oluoch had in Congo. Again, why not start the experienced Kasaya or even Jerry! Bure kabisa

If the goals were not scored from an open play, that Team will loose in Kenya. The Ethiopians are not going past Harambee.

  • Those are criticizing BW needs to think deeper, these is the same coach who dominated CECAFA when coaching Uganda for years. His tactics and methods are what made Uganda to dominate Kenya for that long, it is high time we start questioning Kenya`s players attitude. To some extend I think Kenya`s players are overrated. Compare and contrast, in KPL, some are never serious, ni hali ya game; with such mentality; forget.
