Gattuso: Why I absconded training

from futaa.com

Harambee Stars holding midfielder Collins Gatusso Okoth has resumed training today (Tue 6 Mar) with his local side Gor Mahia FC after missing last weekends’ 1-0 loss to Karuturi Sports.

Gatusso as he’s fondly referred to by his followers, has not trained with the team for the past one week since his penalty miss, that led to Gor’s 0-1 loss to Muhoroni Youth FC in the Kenyan Premier League encounter.

security assurance

In an exclusive interview with futaa.com, the combative midfielder said that he had to abscond the training last week after receiving threats via social media-facebook from irate K’ogalo fans.

-It’s not intentional to miss the training last week, but it’s for the sake of my life, said Okoth.

-After receiving many threats (through facebook), I thought it’s wise enough to calm the situation by absconding the training, he added.

-But at the moment I’ve resumed the training after security assurance from the Chair (Ambrose Rachier), revealed Okoth.

  • I think we need to avoid threatening players. It kills their morale. beside Ghana bestmal missed penalt too. this is not fair at all. in the long run we will have no player at all as they will fear Kogalo. pleease let us give them the support.
Gatuzo learn more on how to take penalts. It not Gatuzo alone we lost in penalts the other day at nyayo an=d only Rama scored a penalt an indication that more training is needed on this

This total stupidity how can you issue threats to a player simply bcoz he missed a penalty, the likes of Didier Drogba, Messi name it the most highly profiled players in the world miss the penalties how a bout Gatuso? Come on K’ogallo fans you realy need to grow up.

Oh Gatusso, Gatusso, Gatusso. Please know that not all fans are that gullible. How come now you are able to go to the chairman? What prevented you from seeing him upon receiving the threats? Is it by some sheer coincidence that you report for training soon after the changes in the technical bench? Remember coach AA is quoted to have said that he had no news of your whereabouts.

I abhor any threats or mistreatment of players or officials by fans but I as well abhor indiscipline. Gatusso the excuse you are giving here is lame. Go slowly young man and respect authority. Where is Stefan Effenberg? Where is Edmundo? Where is Paul Gasgoine? These were greater midfielders than you but indiscipline cut short their careers.

  • As we take on Gattusso we should also look at ourselves in the mirror. At his rate as said the best players will shun GM leading to below-par performance and we know how some of our fans behave when things are not going our way. Shame on some of us fans. Maybe we need civic education to be done to some of these fans. What mesmerises me is that when you get a well-learned GM fan behaving/threatening in some crude/primitive way and justifying it. I blogged how I heard some fans threatening to go to Gattusso’s place to ‘warn’ him to change his playing ways and now it has come to pass. Until we will know that we are responsible for our actions and it’s no longer heroic to man-handle or abuse a fellow player or fan or tech bench member then we are still enemies to the development of our beloved club. As fans the best we can do is to manage or tell-off our fellow fans when they are doing something injut=rous to the club, players or even fellow fans. I have seen some fans being told off and they have responded and changed their behaviours. AFC did the same to the ruly fans and it’s paying off currently. Some of the fans who are role models should be seen and behave as such. It’s bad when the person those low in society are looking at as a model behaves in an unruly way the others who unfortunately are the majority of soccer fans will think it’s the coolest thing to do. Imagine seeing Mwakio, Ole pareiyo, Jackowili throwing missiles and abuses at GM players , ref etc yet they are supposed to incalculate that civil behaviour amongst all fans. So guys let’s behave as football is just a game to be enjoyed and it’s someone else’s office to earn their daily bread. Welcome back Gattusso and also plse try to avoid getting yourself always on the wrong side of things.

@Dan you are absolutely correct. You have said it:”…football is just a game to be enjoyed and it is someone else’s office to earn a living”.

I hope you took note of the blogger who was not ashamed to declare that the slapping of a Gor Mahia official excited him. That is how low we can sink.

    Thank you ndugu.

The club should deduct his daily allowances for the days missed…on top of that give him a second warning letter…should this crap continue dismiss him without any pay….

Gattuso, as I said has what it takes to be a good player but this guy ins’t yet grown up or never serious. Please Gattuso stop commenting on serious issue just concentrate in your soccer carrier, don’t defend yourselelf all the time. Look at what you said over the weekend before gor faced karaturi, such remarks gonna destroy you for sure. Avoid press all the time and may be you can refer them to your captain all the time. I know pple gonna threaten you, but they don’t own you and just concentrate and do your best. Begin repairing you image man. I know there are some fans who in the first place should not be even supporters. They smoke bhang in stadia as if they are in a competition themselves. I hate this and there is nothing we can do because we all come from different family background.

  • it is sad though not surprising that there has been infighting at Gor Mahia…for long we have wondered what is the problem, but now it is rather clear. if Gor mahia management knew about this long long before they fired Zico ( fans forbid ) and then went ahead and hired 13 new players in the less than 2 months, then they also deserve the SACK….Lets start a fresh, new page, NEW BEGINNING. let Gor mahia make it a policy of NEVER TO HIRE A KENYAN COACH ….there is simply too much politics !!!!!

@owuor P. odhiambo…..clearly do u really think his life was in danger?…..why did he not seek the help of the police? Everything that happened on the day of Muhoroni was coz of the moment and not that I encourage it….as an administrator from my point of view he has no reason at all to give himself leave without the due process…..he was to ask the management to xcuse him for a while coz he feared for his life then….proceed to the police station to report the fans that threatened him…..Finally dont be so much in a hurry to label pple as idiots….this is a free blog point and if u cant handle other peoples opinions then I believe u are in the wrong forum…

Gatuso must learn to be strong and should know that Gor as a team has very huge pressure from fans. Gatuso should also learn to be desciplined if he wants to go far. It is not a must he has to score when he takes a penalty but this is not the first time Gatuso is falling off track. I believe he’s having a soft landing cos he’s one of us but if he could do what he always does in another team by now he would be out.
I urge Gatuso to calm down and swallow his pride cos football is not permanent.

There is strong believe from section of fans and technical bench that gatusso is the only player who can play no 6.I tell u guys we are wasting a lot of time, this player has alot of problems.if we can have opiyo back then problem in no 6 will be gone.why should one player always in problems?

Gatusso simply needs to be managed properly. Fan pressure and at times trouble at GM (or even AFC)will always be there. Not all are schooled at how to express disappointment and this is where the GM management should come in and bridge the apparent communication gap between its players and the fans. Again it is expected to be condemned when you don’t deliver and praised when you perform well. For many fans, performance has no carry over, you’re judged by your current deeds. That Drogba loses penalties too is no reason to praise Gatusso for doing so. His performance must be appraised objectively. GM are in football to win and that is all that matters.

As a policy to players, let the coach/manager be the first person to know of anything happening to you relating to you playing football for the club (put it in their contract). The gaffer must know what to do to protect the interests of the club like in Gatusso’s case (How many times have you seen Wenger, Sir Alex exonerate a penalty missing player at the post match interview for being unlucky or say ‘he did his best’ instead of saying so and so should not have missed that. It creates the atmosphere for everyone else to forgive the player). Make the coach (and entire admin) sign an undertaking to uphold this in the interest of the club.

Football management changed from showing players how to kick the ball and score more goals than the opposition. Today it is primarily ‘human capital management’. Gatusso is human capital to GM, manage him well.

Ooh, and I come from the other side.

  • People, in life there MUST be decisions to take. It is upto the player to decide to polosh his skills and be perfect in taking penalts OR other shots or leave the club. Before Gatuso Gor was there. After Gatuso Gor will be there. Given a chance, I would have sent him for good. Lets’ not habour indiscipline for lame excuses. It is time for Gatuso to decide, there may be abetter midfilder in waiting but he is blocking that guys way ! Fans lets’ do our part orderly. The Hotel issue in Mai mahiu should NOT be repeated.

  • okoth is a kind of player who think that without him,Gor is no more.He is indisciplined and bully to even his team mates. When one is threatened, one should go to the boss or report the matter to the authority concerned ,in this case to the police ,and let them investigate and deal the matter as a threat to somebody’s life.

Lets be sincere to ourselves, some of our fans behave as if they r above da law,i have no doubt in my mind that Gatusso is saying the truth, the habit of kogalo fans causing mayhem whenever we lus should stop cz this bring alot of tension to the players thus affecting their overall performance, lets identify such fans and warn them and if they refuse to stop, they should not be allowed to enter stadium when kogallo are playing,to Gatusso:relax n concentrate on ur football cz u have a very brigt future n dont allow these sideshows to derail ur ambition n prove them wrong 2morrow.GO GO GO KOGALLO.
