George Bwana on Mieno link

Two players’ names have been prominent on the lips and minds of many Kenyan football followers in the past few days following their exploits in the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) recently, these are City Stars’ diminutive striker Dan Sserunkuma and Sofapaka’s lanky midfielder Humphrey Mieno.

Unconvinced

Mieno has been linked with KPL giants Gor Mahia in the forthcoming transfer window and the rumor mill got even stronger after his two goals and outstanding performance downed 2008 champions Mathare United, but Gor Mahia Secretary General Mr. George Bwana doesn’t sound too convinced that he will be joining the team soon.

Bwana admits to Gor Mahia having approached Sofapaka over the Kenyan international but says the 2009 KPL champions were not keen on releasing the midfielder, who he describes as a prized asset.

Not keen

-Mieno is a great player, anyone would want to have him because he is experienced and also has a good tactical prowess but the last time we approached Sofapaka, they sounded like they were not keen on releasing him.

Respect contract

-At the moment he is not really our target in the short term since he is also one of Sofapaka’s biggest assets. However, if Sofapaka show any interest in doing business with us we can consider, because we tried talking to them about him last year and we can still do it again in future. At the moment we respect the fact that he has a contract with another team, he told futaa.com.

Mieno is also said to be on the radar of Cyprus outfit Apoel Nicosia which had a great run in this season’s UEFA Champions League before being knocked out by Real Madrid in the second round.

I think stuff about player transfers should be left to the coach to be releasing. In good set up teams you only hear from the Coach and the Captain. Rarely do you hear from the CEO or CHAIRMAN. This circus of Gor EC struggling for cheap publicity is uncalled for. You only sky rocket the price of a player by this media attention statements. Leopards coach says has already signed one player and the two are going thru formalities but he would not disclose their names. Even Arsenal kept Podolski deal secret until when it was done. Otherwise we welcome the coming new players.

  • Talk too much about a player and you will end up signing for almost ten times his value.
Bwana should learn to shut up his beak.

  • On another note it’s important to learn that we are still the team to beat in terms of gate collections. Despite the double header at Nyayo we still grossed approx 200k more in our match against Chemelil( 690k against 400k for the double header). No doubt we are still leading the way in terms of fans, even at a lowly position 10.

If worse comes to worse, there is no need of panic signings. We can still win the league with the players we currently have. We have so many players (like Macheda (Duncan Owiti-jersey no. 20, etc) that are never utilized and I wonder if it’s their form that has gone down or we don’t need them…Let us sign these big names that come our way but remember we also need to fully gell-up together as a team. Take example of Barcelona that maintains it’s players.

We really feel lifted with our recent form and especially the last two consecutive wins. I hope we will not be affected by mid-season break in June

  • Let’s build our own players like we did with Gatusso, Masika and BB. In that case we won’t bother to need to sign any stars from rival teams.

  • media loving EC at it again. you do not have the money and here you are yapping on what you want to do. so what happened to the rwandese, mugalia and recently BB. this feel good factor from the EC is a reflection of where a good majority of gor fans live, CLOUD NINE. these guys have no idea of there limits, alot of these fans have no idea what it takes and will easily believe anything . it’s called desperation, tendency to hang on straws. gor cannot buy itself out of the lower part of the league, it doesn’t even have the money in the first place. the coach should concentrate on improving the playing pattern. he is the coach and thats his job. most of the clubs on top of the league have no PEDIGREE players to right home about. they just have simple play patterns(non-consistent) that work for certain periods. otherwise kenyan clubs would be ruling the roost in africa soccer. the same guys will play for the FRIENDLY TEAM and pretty much the results will be the same. kimanzi is simply thinking of excuses coz even he knows he cannot deliver. he has said that the expections put on him are too much. bwana should stop playing futi with the newspapers, these guys have a way of making you say much until you trap urself. the coach should stop looking for escape routes.TEACH the guys how to play effective patterns on scoring and holding the ball. sony FC do not have the best of players but they can score 3 NILS more than gor. WHY?while i do not expect the coach to perform miracles overnight, i will give my support upto the length of time the excuses pot turns into a sieve.bwana stop playing to the gallery… the EC made a bold decision to support the coach, that was commendable. as i said before, you were able to cool the adidas guys, will they listen to you the nxt time. demand for your pound of flesh from the coach … as for me, it’s you who is responsible for the current mess. dancing on top of the bridge is getting you nowhere.

  • Jakojera9. I think the idea of Maninizle also using gormahia.net to alert us about meetings is great.Strangely enough am not on facebook but am really excited abt this initiative. Lets pull together guys am sure more fellow bloggers on gormahia.net will join too.

  • @9-I agree with your sentiments in that the coach should continue working on a system that is effective(an entertaining) with the players he has and slowly look for talent that can be nurtured into superstars and fill in the gaps he has seen. As I have said administratively he done a lot of good e.g player code of conduct, reduction in squad size but now we want to see his tactical acumen NOT excuses.Lets give him until September.

BTW am surprised at bloggers deadly silence regarding GM’s “partnership” with the Prison’s Ladies Volleyball team. What a picture, talk of running and thinking at the same time. The only sad part is that I think Tuzo reaped 100% and GM zero in terms of publicity. From those jerseys one would think its Tuzo FC not the mighty K’galo on show.

I must admit i don’t like this General Bwana. And believe me you, i’ll vote you out at the AGM come December .

I am compelled to do this by your very reckless utterances to the media. For a long time you’ve continued to feed the media with false acquisations that never was. The other time you informed the fans through other medium, ( Futaa.com ) and not gormahia.net you are chasing the signature of Meddie Kagere. The same case apply to bob ‘sweetpotato ‘ mugallia. None of these materialise.

You have recently been quoted in the media as chasing the signature of Humprey Mieno of Sofapaka. The kind of hype this transfers is creating in the media is overwhelming. This can therefore raises the value of a player a hundredfold. We are now reading that AFC Leopards have already signed one player whose identity is not yet known. This might be because of a policy they chose to adopt before they go to the media.

It is not a secret Gor Mahia is now well known to posses deep pockets. And everyone including shrewd businessman and president of Sofapaka, Elly Kslekwa is eyeing the fat purse of K’Ogalo. We are not even sure whether you are doing scouting after consultations with our technical team.

In the next AGM, I shall be proposing before the delegates some of these archaic constitution be amended and give our technical team some independence and teeth.
The EC has failed completely to provide the necessary leadership that this club needs in order to position itself as one of the successful clubs in Africa. I

  • How I wish G. Bwana could be telling us about the official web site that he talked about lauching in two weeks three months ago. By the way Gor is the only big team without an official website yet we go chest thumping on how we are a modern team. Even my local village team now has a website. I believe in all these GM fans there are those with expertise and will create a marvellous site for free as part of their contribution to GM.

    How about the Mpesa account?

  • Sir Alex F gave us a free lesson. For a team to be successful, the most important person in the team MUST be the Manager!! Not the CEO. The problem with Gor is that the officials up there have the wrong motive of being there….. to become politicians in future!! Let the coach handle transfer matters… period. The EC is supposed to write cheques…. period!!
