Gor Mahia 1 AFC Leopards 1

The 77th meeting between arch rivals AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia famously known as the Mashemeji Derby on Sunday 12 April ended 1 – 1 with goals from the on form Ali Abondo for Gor Mahia and Jacob Keli for AFC Leopards either side of half time.

A strong start for the hosts, Leopards saw Gor Mahia keeper Boniface Oluoch called action at least thrice by the hard working Emmanuel Ngama and the keeper did well on all occasions including making a last ditch save on the line after Ngama got to the end on Fredrick Ndaaka’s low cross.

Gor Mahia gradually started taking control of the game and Abouba Sibomana almost forced Jackson Saleh to turn a hard shot to his own net while Rwandan Meddie Kagere proved to be a constant threat to the Leopards defence only that most of his runs were not well timed.

Abondo goal

Ali Abondo, who had earlier tested the Ingwe defence with long range shots, was at the right place at the right time on 34 minutes to pick Khalid Aucho’s pass that Michael Olunga cleverly dummied and Abondo placed it well to the far corner, leaving Ingwe keeper Wycliffe Kasaya rooted to the spot.

Gor Mahia should have doubled their lead on the final minute of the first half after Meddie Kagere’s first touch and run left Jackson Saleh for dead but his shot from a tight angle beat Kasaya but went agonizingly off target.

Logarusic – Keli magic

AFC Leopards coach Zdravko Logarusic introduced Bernard Mangoli at the start of the second half in placed of the anonymous Fredrick Ndaaka and the move paid off with Mangoli and Musa Mudde adding stability to the midfield while checking Aucho and Collins Okoth’s influence.

Five minutes after the restart, Austin Ikenna beat Abouba Sibomana with both pace and skill on the right and his low cross was met by the unmarked Ngama on the far post but his shot on goal was tipped away by Boniface Oluoch, only as far as the waiting Jacob Keli who smashed it home to level matters.

Ugly scenes ensued after the equalizer with Haron Shakava and Ngama the main actors but referee Nasur Doka managed to bring the situation under control, with Ngama booked in the process.

Ikenna shouts

Ikenna had shouts for a penalty waved away after going down in a tussle with Shakava in the box on the 57th minute and two minutes later Ingwe had a freekick from which Ngama shot well on target but Oluoch made another good save.

Ali Abondo went close on 65 minutes with a free kick that was not well handled by Kasaya but the keeper redeemed himself with a save on the second attempt as Shakava lurked and Collins Okoth spurned another chance eight minutes later after nice build up play from the champions.

Martin Kiiza almost cost Ingwe late in the game with an error that gifted Meddie Kagere possession in the box but the Rwandan’s cross went harmlessly across the face of goal and Leopards managed to hold on to see Gor Mahia drop points for the first time in the season.

  • Ati they just came from continental championships but they can’t beat a team that didn’t have pre-season preps; bure kabisa. Lets talk about the game; Ikenna is brought down in the box by Shakava and no penalty is awarded. A Gor player handles the ball off Wanyoyi shot and again no penalty is awarded. On the other hand, Ingwe players are handed a flurry of yellow cards. Oguda, I’m tired of bias in favor of Gor. For those who have penciled in Gor as the 2015 champions, this is what I have to tell them ; Gor scored first today but did they win at the end of the day? No. Kutangulia siyo kufika. Gor might have started the league red hot (before they faced Ingwe), does that mean they are going to win the league when it ends? No. Again Kutangulia. Siyo kufika.

@ingo so AFC will the league? Very good. What I don’t get is how come AFC has only two games in a year. Away to Gor and at home hosting Gor. You have one game remaining and that cannot give you the league you last won 18 years ago. With AFC taking loga as coach, you are where we were in 2012 you are 4 years behind.

    • Thank Oguda for helping your team win the last two titles. All teams in the KPL have complained about how Gor was getting penalties that were not genuine. As far as I’m concerned, whenever the list of league champions is published, the 2013 and 2014 champions should have an asterisk next to the said chanpions

I hope @ingo was in the field. How comes ingwe is the most ‘supported’ team in east africa but Gor always outnumber them in the stadium? Anyway last year ingwe got 4 points from us but that was all.. Nyway our targets and that of ingwe are very different

    Reply
    • Actually the target for Gor and Ingwe are both to win the league. The difference is that you have the 13 th man in Jack Oguda behind your campaign

  • AFC plays like it’s a matter of life and death against gor. Even if you collect all points that would not win them the league
Ingo should focus on ingwe. Did anyone notice he was first to comment on our site.

I think one Odipo of Tusker was punished last season for such wild claims as Ingo is doing here. What does he know? Is this not actionable, where is Oguda? where are the lawyers? Such allegations put the game into disrepute and ought to be taken seriously, investigated, substantiated and/or punished. Where are the Gor lawyers? Admin, find this Ingo and hand him over to record statements on his allegations.

  • Team kogallo dont u know that once u r over excited u tend to be hit with a bout of verbal diarrhoea. Ingo is suffering from this. He knew the kichapo they were going to get so they came in small numbers but to them now who came expecting a thrashing getting a draw is in itself victory. But, reality is in the table.

I wonder if @ingo knows the structure of KPL. Does he know that the Ingwe chairman is one of Oguda’s employers? Does he know that Oguda just implements what the KPL Chairmen , including Kasavuli, have agreed on? Does he know that Ichingwa, Wanjala are some of the refs in KPL and are chose by a technical panel of which Oguda is not a member? Yesterday they even started saying that DoKa the ref is always against them. Why so? Do they want one who favours them? At Gor we let our game do the talking as there is only as much the ref can do and after all they are human. We have seen dubious officiating in the EPL including yesteday’s derby but life went on.
Unfortunately we lost 2 points and Ingwe lost a point sasa kila mtu ajitegemee na hizo team zingine. I hope Ingwe fights the other teams like they fight Gor since six points cannot win you the KPL.

I dont know why the administrator of this site has allowed this to continue.
Freedom of speech yes, but you must be responsible for your utterances.
Ingo should know that Oguda holds a leadership position and the things he is advancing could be equated to character assasination.

Anyway, let me congratulate our boys for the hard work. We would have loved to win but it wasnt our day.
The build up to Abondo’s goal was very impressive, thank you boys

K’Ogallo oyee. Thank you for a job well done, especially against a team that would rather die against Gor and finish below par. However, that is not my point for the day.but as everybody else notices, I ask this question ‘Why do they create an impression of living off others coffers?” What pride do they get when they can not appear for their team? They need the money for the team but they do not want to pay. Are they suggesting that they are want the Gor family to pay for their bills? I though yesterday was a big day but when I looked around, it told a different story. Even the few who came, were so timid that when Gor scored first they started crying about the Ksh.300.00 they had paid. Some in fact made a temporary defection and came to where Gor fans were sitting. The problem with this is that even when Ingwe scored, they did not know how to cheer, Kudos to our fans, we acknowledged the goal and we clapped our hands to cheer our team on. It is therefore my opinion that Ingwe should call for a crisis meeting. Mani tum marach.

Sorry folks but am still on this Ingo case, even freedom of speech must be exercised with measured restraint. When he says matches are fixed in favor of some teams is that not serious enough even to draw the attention of FIFA? I insist that he should be held responsible for this recklessness. Silence will mean he is making a point and some quarters are silently agreeing and that is dangerous.

    Reply
    • Lakini Jathur unanichekesha. ….Charity begins at home. When Gor fans destroy property why don’t you ask that they be held responsible? Everyday and everywhere in the world (including Kenya) fans complain about match officials and soccer managers. So are you going to “hold all of them responsible?”. Even the Fifa president has been accused by some quarters about his dealings. Why not Oguda?

Admin even before we congratulated the mighty Gor you allowed@ ingo to poo poo on us. He continues to do so….and everyone is just focusing on him whilst many would have contributed great ideas instead. Keep his shit out Mr Admin.

We enjoyed the match but AFC took the money and now they are planning to pay salaries. 70 per cent of fans in stadium were kogalo fans. Can we make sure we attend all Gor home games and get at least two million shillings per home game. ……
