Gor Mahia 1 Bidco 0

Showing shades of Calabar is Bernard Odhiambo

Gor Mahia narrowly squeezed a win over Bidco whom they beat 1-0 at the City stadium on Saturday. The all important goal was scored by Simon Pierre who capitalized on a through pass from George “Blackberry” Odhiambo.

In action were several Gor Mahia new signings among them returnee Ali Abondo who was captain and played in midfield with Khalid Aucho coming in later and displaying astute passing. Bernard Odhiambo who is the brother to David Owino Calabar also played. Odhiambo made an impressive debut and shows the potential to achieve what his elder brother achieved. Most impressive in the Gor Mahia defence is right back Karim Nizigiyimana. He looks good going forward, has good positional sense and is composed and a good crosser.

Whereas the defence looked solid, the attack looks blunt. Blackberry played well but it will take some time before his combination with other strikers like Olunga, Tim Otieno and Taofiq clicks. Remember that Blackberry hardly even played with Tim Otieno last year.  Coach Frank Nuttall has his work cut out to identify combinations and gain some cohesiveness upfront before the match against CNAPs of Madagascar.

the build up game was ok…players learning how to play with each other.was particularly impressed by Aucho first half and in the 2nd half i liked the right fullback, calabars brother, olunga and the defensive midfielder wearing no.6…good on the ball and very alert and aggressive.lets give them time!!

Thanks oswozo@1,good observation. This article is very misleading.Aucho played 1st half but did not play with Abondo, who played 2nd half.BlackBerry played 1st half and Olunga 2nd half.Dont insinuate to us that that is the combination we need. They havent played together yet so the clicking part should not arise here just yet!!!

This was just a beggining. The management should organise for more high profile friendlies.

This is a pre season match & any result is acceptable. It is now upon the coach to assemble the strongest squad with the players he has @ his disposal. K’ogalo forever.

Apparently Jakoyo didn’t attend the match. From what I saw a good coach can produce a great team from there . Right half back Karim was just a delight

@ JA Thur GI ji,Jakoyo only said that the two players from Rwanda and Burundi respectively look very good.I doubt if he mentioned anything about team formation. Thanks for the update though.I didn’t attend the match but it is reassuring to get such nice feeds from you people. It shows Kogalo dream is still very much alive. How many players were presented? How did Taofic fare?Is the EC planning for another striker?Did any of the youngsters from the junior team play? How was their game of they did?Updates please.

  • Build ups start with average teams and the management did it right. Great team spirit as we wish them well.

These warm ups are arranged so as to test formations among other things. You cannot test a formation while playing KCB or AFC Leopard or even against Barcelona as others want us to do. Furthermore, while testing the match fitness of the squad and the system to play, do not expect the team to win 5-0 minimum as others want the team to do.

as much as the players lukd promising, culd someone explain the rationale of having almost 15 defenders in a squad of 30 players, bearing in mind that defenders are rarely rotated. Is it a case of pple bringing their own players regardless of wat the team needs.Last season we lacked creativity in our mid, since aucho is meant to play kizito’s role,i still think we’ll still have the same problem.GM needs a player who culd compliment aucho”a ball player”,am afraid frm that game the No.6,jeri,abondo r

Very true GM need speedy and accurate strikers atleast 2 and 1 wthholding midfielder who can execute passes accurately with alot of precission otherwise a good start wishing the team all the best 2015.

not or rather did not play like players who culd compliment aucho/gatuso.i think our 2local coaches r not big fans of creativity in the mid.i wont be suprised if FN pushes the RIGHT BACK to play offensive mid on the right jst like he did with walu & pierre.this clearly shows that pple who signing players do it randomly.if FN had identified junior players frm under 19 who r midfieders give them a chance a drop some defenders, otherwise all seems to be well.GUD LUCK GM.

Any update on the sponsorship deal?

In this case, then who signed the players?

I think people are either busy bodying or trying to vent misplaced anger on hardworking innocent people. There were rumours to the effect that FN left a list of preferred players before leaving for holidays, why was the list not followed? My take is, the recruitment of Boni,Olunga, Aucho and a few others is fair. As for the rest, nature will take its course.
