Gor mahia 2 Western Stima 0

Second half goals from Dan Sserunkuma and Kevin ‘Ade’ Omondi helped the champions ease past the power men and move fourth on standings

Second half goals from Danny Sserunkuma and Kevin Omondi enabled Gor Mahia to go fourth on Kenyan Premier League standings as they switched off Western Stima 2-0 at City Stadium  on Sunday.

After a goalless first half, K’Ogalo spurred by the full to capacity City Stadium, roared on to play an attacking game that saw them record their third straight league win. This was an important win especially coming at the backdrop of their huge defeat to Esperance away in Tunisia on Monday.

Both teams started with an attack minded game with Stima especially keen on using counter attacks, something that they were effective in. In the 6th minute, David Juma forced a great save from Wesley Kemboi after the striker beat the offiside trap from Paul Odhiambo’s pass but his attempted lob was saved.

On the opposite end, Geoffrey Kizito tried his luck from a distance but his effort went wide. Paul Odhiambo had another great chance for Stima, again beating the offside trap but he lobbed the ball over the bar with David Juma off his line.

After the opening 15 minutes of attacks, both teams reduced intensity at the mouth of goal with Stima laying back leaving only Paul Odhiambo and Collins Neto upfront. George ‘Blackberry’ Odhiambo had a decent chance for Gor but he missed his kick after being teed in by Shabaan Kenga.

In the second period, it was Gor Mahia’s chance to attack and they did this with energy. Sserunkuma had a golden chance five minutes after the restart but his shot went straight into keeper Ben Mandela’s arms.

Patrick Oboya, who had a colorful game, also had a powerful shot tipped over acrobatically by Mandela. The goal finally came in after 65 minutes, Sserunkuma lifting the ball over keeper Mandela, the Stima defense caught flat footed after losing the ball in midfield.

Gor continued to attack and five minutes from the final whistle, Kevin ‘Ade’ Omondi, who had come on for Oboya, produced superb individual effort to go past three Stima defenders and shoot at goal. Though his first shot was blocked, he managed to get to the rebound and put the ball behind the net.

Coach Williamson was impressed with the result praising his team for the win. “We played very well and everyone was committed. We kept a clean sheet and that was important. Kevin also scored a beautiful goal from an individual effort and coming off the bench, that was great,” he told Goal.

Pongezi is in order. That’s how champions react after a dissappointment. The bench mark should always be giving our best and grinding out those wins.Special mention to Danny ‘mzee’ and ‘Ade’. It was a job well done.

Great response especially with the sheer number of chances created. One of these days we are going to wallop a team 5 nil, it’s coming. Congrats to the boys for putting up such a magnificent show. On another note, I know sponsorship talks are on going but could Chris Omondi (Secretary General) stop leaking these stories to all forms of media before they are concluded?!! This man cannot keep a secret, where are his negotiation skills? Contracts are supposed to be kept under the lid till they are signed and delivered. Three weeks ago I spoke with a close friend and Director of Chase Bank and he mentioned that there sister company Chase Insurance were not amused by media speculation that they were close to a deal Gor. It was still a boardroom negotiation. Now we are not sure if the deal has been sealed or not. Last week the Secretary General went viral with two deals under discussion again, Summit Brookside. Lets be professional here. The most important step that does not require legal diligence is the Sacco…why is this one quiet? Please let us not waste too nuch time on this, we need it whether we have sponsors or not. By now we’d have collected a few millions…it’s a step by step process.

  • Congratulations are in order as the team came out in the second half and destroyed the Omino led team.
It is disaster to waste time against Gor and by Stima tried to, but as is the case Gor never disappoints.
It was pleasure seeing Oboya play for 78 minutes and the right back Walusimbi is pure joy at the back, Captain Calabar played his heart out, I think the arm band brings out the best in him, and to the fans, a big thank you for turning up in large numbers.

achabo@10…walusimbi is a left back and not a rightback.
in my opinion,i thought we struggled untill we got the goal.as much as we got the vital win,i still think we need to improve…especially in the final third!!!

@oswozo moziek, we did not struggle. Western Stima game plan was to defend and hit us on counter-attacks. Stima almost got it.

However the introduction of Rama and Kevo changed our game plan and flow of football. Rama is very intelligent player and reads the game very well. Kevo can go places if he can improve his work rate by 60-80% of his productivity. Kevo too is very intelligent too.

W Stima had over crowded the defence until Rama and Kevo came in.

I was also impressed with Danny, Baba Kizito, Akumu, Calabar, Shakava, Kenga, Oboya and goal-keeper. These lads worked hard for the victory.

Oluoch and Blackberry need to work hard and put more focus. Oluoch was lacking confidence most of the time he had the ball. Blackberry is still lusty and needs to improve his game.

Wanyonyi is a good player but sometimes plays as a lone ranger and an individual. He needs to understand that football is a teamwork. Pass the balls where it is necessary and open up your opponents. We can get many goals if Wanyonyi can be passing the balls.

there is one of us who has consistently rubbished bw’s tactics calling it the ‘patia serunkuma ball n hoofing the ball foward’ .i hope he will quickly eat humble pie n get behind the team because what the boys played yesterday was neither of the things he said. over to you Mr 16 or is it 12?

  • Congratulations and may you continue to work hard and you will always be rewarded. I think also that the team supporters did not disappoint. They came out in large numbers to buoy the team. This is a true spirit of the game. It may not be your day today, but there is always a next time. One therefore does not condemn the team they love to the gullows. Let us therefore keep it up.However, I still saw some guys trying to roughen others in the stadium. I appeal to them that this is not they way to show allegiance to K’Ogalo. Decency must be maintained at all times. Let us always replay the tape back in our own individual closets, would you be proud of how you conducted yourself at the stadium? This is just food for thought.

  • For those of you critisizing the ‘Patia serrenkuma’ comment. i think i am the one who came up with it. first of all there is no humble pie to eat coz i do not think ur blood oozes gor mahia more than anyone else in this site.
second you do not own this site to direct anyone to do anything.
    So about the comment:
i stand by it coz i made it out of the interest of gor mahia just like any other comment in this site.
for one i did not watch this match but if Bobby is coming up with better strategies then this is very welcome.
if for any reason you think that the ‘patia serenkuma’ is now a strategy just cause it has worked against w.stima then i really pity you guys.
as i said before, i still think bobby has to come up with pattern to conquer africa.
otherwise congrats to the team and keep it up.

  • i wonder if gor mahia can buy allan wanga in june.why?i think wanga is a top striker and kogalo is a top team further more the player has certain qualities our strikers lack ,pace phyic and aerial superiority.
i admire the player alot and i fear he wil be wasted if he remains at the den and further more the second leg is always tough therefore to defend the title we need the best.
ALLAN WANGA represents the best and therefore he should play for the best club in the region.

@Dinga, I hope you have been attending our other matches. As our marksman the first person we target for goals has yo be Danny. That’s what Barca does with Messi and Real with CR9. In ’87 that’s what we did with Dawo. I still believe Obwoge will give us the options upfront. Might not be now or tomorrow but soon

@19, dont introduce irrelevant issues, Allan is best in the den, and cannot fit in the GK outfit. What we have upfront if well natured can be the best in the region, TB demand the best from these guys…., no short cut!!!. We requre speed, precision, teamwork, intelligence, ball control and the appetite to see the ball in the opponent’s net, this can be realised through Kevo/Sere/Rama & co. Lets focus on the next game, mid week and I urge all to support the boys. God bless K’Ogallo.

what a goal from ade wuod odero, bloggers the game was really entertaining i liked it.secondly i loved how our goalkeeper started the play.he never played long balls to the strikers the way jerry always does it,the guy was composed and started the game from behind and that is what jerry should imitate, those long balls he is always lobbying to sserenkuma cant work with tall defenders.otherwise all the players impressed me and kizito baba and jaja walusimbi are real signings ,the guys are professional players.Let us meet at tok komwanda on wednesday .

@ Dinga I watched the game yesterday and i concur with your “PATIA SSREKUMA” style of play which i believe was very predictable in the first half. I also do agree with @Oswozo Moziek that it was a 50/50 affair in the 1st half with both teams wasting half chances that came their way.

The “PATIA SSEREKUMA” style ceased to exist with the introduction of RAMA instead of BERRY. While one OBOYA rediscovered his dribbling and deft touches once RAMA decided to hold and play the ball skillfully. In a nutshell the coach introduced ball players and that is how we managed to break the stubborn STIMA defense.

The Sserekuma goal was a clinical finish courtesy of Rama and Oboya artistry with their one-two touches inside the box and not the “PATIA WITHOUT THINKING”.

With introduction of Wanyonyi and “ADE” GOR played total football right from goalkeeper and as a matter of fact David Juma kept on building the play from behind as opposed to “PURA BOLI MBELE”. Gor dominated possession with passes left, right, centre, forward and backwards at will, while also regaining possession immediately. THAT IS THE FOOTBALL WE ARE YEARNING FOR.

Then “ADE” scored through his trade-mark individual solo move that received standing ovation from the crowd. The self confidence and believe in the players was very noticeable once the ball was moving round and Western Stima was left to chase the game. Gor only needs to be consistent and GOALS will come from any other palyer and not unnecessarily over burdening the lone striker with “PURA BOLI MBELE” aimlessly.

@Dinga, it’s unfortunate that you were pick pocketed. I can only advice that you exercise more caution. I have also lost my phone and other valuables but I still attend the matches whenever I can. In fact yesterday”s fan turnout was very encouraging even to the players. I have also realized that our Divas really love the team, going by yesterday’s turnout. Our fans are also maturing and those who had their fan by teasing them have accepted that things have changed. For those who can we have the milk derby on Wednesday and our presence will be required

@Ogango Trailer, we actually made it a family outing with madam and the kids savouring the atmosphere. Though only the boy was interesting in the game the two ‘girls’ were more interested in how the fans were enjoying themselves. Moreover they have promised to be there for more k’ogalo games and invite their friends. My prayer is that the ugly head of hooliganism doesn’t rear its ugly head again. Whoever watched the Soweto derby will have observed that the ratio of men to women was almost 1:1 and what struck me most was that it was free seating with fans of both teams seated together in the stands and no case of hooliganism. Is that a measure of civilization or culture? Can it happen in Kenya or Tz in a derby?

  • In as much as i dont usually agree with Dinga’s sentiments at times on this one about pitia kwa serenkuma he is right. That move is so predictable that Stima were all over him. I can bet Berry is messing his game because of this strategy. I agree with one No. 27 that he should play his game style and not try too hard otherwise things are going to be hard for him. I was really dissappointed the way fans asked for his substitution very demoralising for a lad we loved so much at one point. People need to realise he has been away for so long and will need to build his confidence. At one point Oboya was lost in the game untill he swapped with Kenga and my oh my did he blow away the opposition. Berry needs our support to build his confidence. The opposition know Berry and Sserenkuma and will not give them space. Our game changed when Rama and Kevo came in because these two bring the element of unpredictability which overshadows the “Pitia na Sserenkuma strategy”.

Also those who were trying to force themselves into mainstand were also dealt with. If this can continue then K’ogalo faithfulls will fill the stadium in all Gor matches.God bless K’ogalo

  • No 35 and 38 its not like am belittling Sserenk no what i mean is that we should have decoys who could relieve the pressure from Sserenk. Thats why Berry, Daddy, Oboya, Kenga and Rama come into play coz they draw away defenders away from Sserenkuma while he sneeks away and wait for the right opportunity to strike. He still remains our talisman but the other playerz must up their game and have self belief that they could also score.
Daddys goal was a master piece and it reminds me of the same goal he scored against Ulinzi in the dying minutes gosh it was a masterpiece, chipping the ball over jacktone odhiambo. How i pray to God that Daddy would double his workrate and get the right attitude coz there is no special player like him.

kudos to the team for winning and playing well and to the fans from russia who stopped the youths who were trying to trigger “hooliganism”.thank you guys.In future lets have stewards manning that area,we can’t so much rely on the policemen, why did they leave the place and allowed fans to access the center from russia?.we must cultivate a culture of being content with what my moni can afford. To the fans who always see -ves on BW,focus on encoraging players like BB to up his game ‘atoe u’pro kwa kichwa’,akumu on his passes, kelvin pia.Otherwise i hope BW would one day try a kizito/eric combination tuone itakuwaje?,For Rama/ade if only u can build on your work rate and stamina,i believe you guys could be the best two offensive midfielders in the country
