Gor Mahia bag FKF cup

In a repeat of last year, Gor Mahia beat Sofapaka in the FKF cup final, this time on penalties. The hero of the evening was Tanzanian standout goalkeeper Ivo Mapunda who saved two penalties to sink Sofapaka.

Kogalo were certainly under no illusions as Sofapaka has over the past 3 years proven to be a very difficult nut to crack.  The match was evenly balanced. In the first few moments of the game, Kevin Omondi came close when he picked up a pass from Moses Odhiambo, made a dangerous run into the Sofapaka area but his shot was saved by the Soafapaka goalkeeper Duncan Ochieng.

Ivan Anguyo then saw his long range effort go over the bar. Sofapaka came close several times with efforts from Joseph Nyaga and Humphrey Mieno.

In the second half, Logarusic brough on Edwin Lavatsa for the off color Dan Sserunkuma. The match continued to be evenly balanced with both sides pressing for a goal.

In the penalty shootout, Eugene Asika and Abdalla Juma’s saw their penalties saved by Mapunda. Humphrey Mieno then sent his ffort over the bar. Meanwhile Gor Mahia had scored via Ivan Anguyo, Moses Odhiambo and Rama Salim.

The win presents Gor Mahia another chance to play continental football and perhaps redeems themselves after the disastrous campaign of 2012.

At one time I aspired to keep chicken and I would visit my grandma often because I was sure she would always give me an ‘ochio-chio’ “to go and grow”. She could give me any other coluors of chicken but not the white ones , so one time I took courage and asked her how come she never “escorts me” with white chicken. The old lady told me that cats (wild cats or as Wuonpap would call them: Ogwang’) have a strong affinity for chicken. She explained that white chicken is particularly disadvantaged because its white colour stands out and Ogwang’ can easily spot it in the thickets and once Ogwang’ has spotted the white chicken it focus all its attention on it, forgets about anything else and hunts it down for a kill.

Events of the FKF semi-final and final matches have seen my grandmother’s wisdom being confirmed. On Saturday we saw how the big, shy cat concentrated on Ivo Mapunda’s white towel. For the cat’s love of chicken I am persuaded to believe they mistook the poor towel for white chicken. And they lost the match (Wahenga would say usiache mbachao kwa msala upitao).

On the build up to the final I had a bad feeling that we would see a repeat of the towel drama since this other team is also a cat, an Ogwang that Ochigah calls batoto ba Saitan. I actually took my time and advised them to leave the poor towel alone….Well they never listened; infact they raised the drama to another level and what did Wahenga say? Asiyesikia la mkuu hushindwa kufunga hata penalty moja.

Was it a coincidence that Duncan Ochieng’ dived in the direction of the white towel while Rama Salim’s penalty shot was shaking the net in the opposite side? No. No coincidence. My grandma’s wisdom was being vindicated. It was all about Ogwang’s strong affinity for chicken. Duncan had this mistaken belief that the white towel was some white chicken and he had to go for it.

Heko, kongole na shukrani za dhati kwake mwenyenzi Mungu na kwa entire team Mighty Gor Mahia.

  • The players and tech bench have earned it and deserve to have a rest after a gruelling year. GOD was for us all along. I believe the Thika game was one of those tests HE throws your way. We managed to shake that off and now we look forward to the next season. What a rollercoaster year. All the best guys and enjoy your holidays

Okebe@ 2 please translate this for us. Logarusic, Bob and Playing unit thank you very much. This is what I had wished for the team with Loga all year long, continental football. Please go on and who knows with this kind of commitment from all concerned a continental cup is not too far. This is all we want, Blackberry where are you. Can someone think seriuosly think of redeeming this drowning talent?

Congrats again boys! Hard fought victories are sweeter and have a way of building mental strength. You stand a better chance to win a nail biter like the Thika clash in future. Time to rebuild and I also ask, could blackberry be transformed and brought back to the club? I hear he trains in Buru together with Gatuso. If disciplined and well mentored, these two can be in a class of their own. Other than Odhis, who else can control the ball like blackberry? And he used to score an average of 10 goals a season, together with Dany and Rama, these 3 can terrorize defenses and blow them to bits. But most importantly, we must keep Logarusic. We know he’ll make the best decisions and we can really go far in both local and continental soccer with this coach.
I can’t wait for the preseason build up and the transfer rumors.

    Congratulations boys the excellent win!

Matters towel aside, the boys really deserve a pat on their shoulders for playing their hearts out throught the more than one hundred minutes. The number 14 shirt, Kevin Omondi was outstanding on the flanks.

Ivo Mapunda did the club proud by his daring saves. I am not a superstitious guy and I cannot waste this space with this ‘towel thing’. I am proud of you all.

Gory be to God for this had earned victory, Amen. Gor unlike any other team in the 2012 TPL, played the highest number of matches with unmarched concistency bagging two cups and a runners up hence the best 2012 TPL CLUB.Yesterdays’s victory both served as a consolation to the anguish we suffered for missing the TPL trophy and as an assurance that the team is determined to conquer any teritory.
May I thank you all EC, TC bench avd the players.

    God answers our prayers in three ways;

1.He says wait and then gives us later
2.He says Wait and then gives us something better
3.He says No and gives us the best

It would have been so special to win all the trophies this season, too bad that never came to happen,ya Mungu ni mengi, who knows what He has in store for us next season?

On behalf of the entire Kogallo fraternity

Thank you Lord for two reasons

Secondly, the Management must keep Logarusic at all costs, . .let him have free hand in the transfer window, shop for a t.m, . . .

    Mapunda, has proven a point.

    Fantastic results yester evening.
Kudos Ivo Mapunda and the entire team.
I suggest its now time for GM family to rethink the restructuring of the club management system for prosperity.

I read in the print media yesterday that AFC Leopards are working on their model of formal ownership in an attempt to abandon the current amorphous free for all socio/community.

I think we’d do better going the formal way to escape the patronage infested and euphoric management system.
Otherwise its very good feeling getting to the continental stage.

    Glory be to God.

    Just thinking.

I too agree with @19 kassam above. Efusi are laying a foundation for future prosperity. We must do the same immediately. And our membership can become shareholding…a ltd liability co with clear governance structures.

  • Guys, there are already dissenting voices in AFC who claim that it’s a community club and cannot be ‘privatised’ just like that. Wait and witness the fight that will ensue if that plan goes ahead

We reaped the benefits of patience. To build a winning team required undivided support from all. I am glad that the Kogallo family did just that immediately Loga and Sir Bob came on board and the results are there for all to see. I congratulate the players, technical bench, EC and the ever present Green Army for these achievements. Gor Mahia are the 2012 champions. Tusker are only keeping the trophy. All the best and I wish the entire Kogallo family a joyful festive season.
For God and my beloved club – Kogallo.

I think Ivo Mapunda was inspired by the towel he carried into the goal and hanged on the net like a charm. I think it worked the magic when he saved the two penalty shots.

On Gor Mahia management, I think we do not need bloated officials. The club should be restructured into a way of having board of directors and CEO or General Manager that should be responsible for the daily running of the club.

My take is that we do not need to go for election that have always continue to bring in inept and corrupt officials who neither understand nor know how a football clubs are run.

If it it is necessary to go for election, then we need to have only five officials that should include:-
    1. Chairman and Deputy Chairman
    2. Secretary/CEO (copted) and Deputy Seretary
    3. Treasurer

We need to do away with officials that have continued to fleace the club left-right-centre through unaccount gate collections, sale of club merchandises and goodwill contribution from wellwishers.

It is time now to chart the way forward for the club on how we can do the following mandates:-
    1. Commercialise sale of the club merchandise with real logos, water marks and security features that can neither be duplicated or copied by fraudsters.
    2. Cover all loopholes in managing the gate collections. I suggest that all fans should buy tickets through authorised commercial bank with a wide branch network by presenting the official deposit bank receipt or MPESA message that should immediately be deleted at the entry gates. The MPESA should come up with a print list of the receipts.
    3. Production of different merchandise such as:-
    – current replica and affordable jerseys,
    – baseball caps,
    – branded bags,
    – Lessos for mothers,
    – branded cups,
    – branded track suits,
    – branded towels,
    – brandes pens,
    – branded socks,
    – branded jackets,
    – branded watches,
    – mobile phone covers,
    – stickers,
    – pencils porches for school going kids,
    – scarves/shashas,
    – Branded tyre or spare wheel cover, etc

I thank God for giving us that victory that He realized that we needed most after denying us the league title because he realized that our EC were not capable to handle the victory. They failed even yesterday to control the fans after the victory . How can they let pple get into the field and they know there was trophy to be represented to k’ogalo . they once again failed us. we were given the trophy out of fear without even color . what a shame EC.
