Gor Mahia banned from Nyayo and Kasarani

Kenyan Premier League giants Gor Mahia have been banned from using the Nyayo National Stadium and the Moi International Sports Centre (MISC), Kasarani indefinitely.

The move comes after scenes of hooliganism marred the end of Gor Mahia’s game against Nairobi City Stars at MISC on 4 August, which ended in a barren draw.

Gabriel Komora, the acting CEO of Sports Stadia Management Board, sent out a press release explaining the ban. He also served Gor with a Kshs 2.8 million invoice for the damages sustained to MISC.

The statement reads: “The Sports Stadia Management Board has banned Gor Mahia Football Club from using both the Nyayo National Stadium and Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani.

“The Board’s decision comes as a result of the chaos that occurred during the match between Gor Mahia and Nairobi City Stars on 4th August 2013 at the Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani where Gor Mahia fans went on the rampage and damaged property including hundreds of seats, a perimeter fence and a gate.“The ban, which affects both home and away matches takes effect immediately and will last indefinitely. The board has also sent an invoice bearing the cost of the damages occasioned by the vandalism amounting to Kshs 2.8 million.

“Further, the board demands that Gor Mahia Football Club must furnish it with an elaborate plan of how the club intends to deal with hooliganism among their fans. The plan should also clearly indicate the club’s commitment to take responsibility for the behavior of their fans whenever they commit an offense.”

With the ban, it now remains unclear what will become of the high-stakes match pitting Gor Mahia against AFC Leopards that was planned for Kasarani.

NOT EVEN 5,000 BLOGS WILL RESOLVE SOME ISSUES IN GORMAHIA

Though am not in anyway gagging debate but kindly review the articles below since maybe your suggestion may have been said more than 2 years ago.TO ME THE ONLY THING IS NOBODY HAS EVER been ARRESTED.I thought SSMB requested & got the conditions from GMFC in mid 2011, after the Ulinzi game. Anyway wacha ni nyamaze on that!

Gor Banned from Nyayo and kasarani-13/08/2013

    Gor barred by SSMB-23/03/2012

    Gor launches Anti-Holiganism campaign-30/06/2011

    TV Blackout for K’galo Matches-14/06/2011

    Gor Mahia forfeit Ulinzi match-12/06/2011

Secondly this blog has since its inception expounded practical ideas on on GMFC but where are we headed if its the bloated EC that will set the ground rules for elections. Esteemed bloggers DO YOU THINK THEY WILL set conditions unfriendly to themselves, I doubt it.
Finally let EC and fans ask themselves,
How much have these acts cost GMFC since 2011 or b4 in terms of 1. Fines & penalties 2.Fans staying away from matches 3.TV revenues not to mention lost property & lives.
I estimate more than 10million and remember our players welfare is wanting THEY DON’T EVEN HAVE MEDICAL COVER,BONUS ARE SOMETIMES LATE ETC ETC.
WHY IS THIS ALLOWED TO CONTINUE, I BET SOMEONE SOMEWHERE IS BENEFITING.

I think we should not blame the EC on this. We are literally to blame. Even if it was the Rama/Danny issue there are civilized ways of resolving disputes. Unless the so called ‘fans’ know that choices have cosequences we cannot move forward. Unless hooligans are arrested instead of being teargassed we are going nowhere. Tody it’s Gor , tomorrow is our shemejis. At long last we have seen how the Rama issue has unfolded and who amongst the bloggers can tell me he could have stopped ama from going? In case it was about our ‘bad’ EC he could have gone to another local club with a good EC. That DOES not by any chance absolve our EC from the numeruous issues happening to the club. What we need now is peace and we should not bother much about SSMB but we can furnish them with the info they need. By the way how can GM manage security even after having the security personnel to manege the stadium security? The stadium MUST HAVE IT’S OWN SECURITY TO PROTECT ITS ASSETS. Or is that the reason every piece of apparatus is missing? From taps, sinks, lamps etc. If the stadium security was there it would help arrest hooligans vandalising it’s assets.
Let’s take the derby to Mbaraki or wait to see the positions at the end of the league to decide whether to play it or not

@ Dan Orig, Yes, Rama finally left but for how much 1m,2m,5m or F.O.C. Can the “good” EC clarify or that no longer important. Everything this EC does seems to be a smoke screen otherwise I agree with you stadium security should be removed from clubs. Yes we don’t need the security youth a major loophole 4 siphoning club finances. SO DON’T EXPECT EC TO ACCEPT IT.

All these thanks to a mere 100 uncouth fans who are a true liability to the club. EC is only culpable here for always defending the thugs and failing to come up with or adopt practical ways of reigning in on hooligans.

I am sure we are all scratching our heads on how to raise the KES 3M fine. Suppose we had all Gor Mahia fans duly registered then all those goons could have been apprehended by now. All it would require the EC to do is to key in the faces caught in camera vandalizing SSMB property. The centralized register of all Gor Mahia fans complete with passport photos would then reveal details of the thugs. Appropriate action e.g invoicing all of them plus bans from stadia, etc, would then be undertaken. People must just learn to take responsibility of their actions regardless of whether the actions were committed under the influence of drugs or not.

  • Barefoot guy look here i think your idea is great, to reduce the fans, make it stringent to enter the stadium during the matches like you cant enter the stadium unless you have that membership card with or without a ticket.
i.e. you are forced to hold a membership card because some body who gets angry to the extent of breaking seats… i think that person is a criminal and not a fan, once its made so strict and also the ticket prices MUST be made a little bit more expensive to reduce the number of fans who come into the stadium, you see Sofapaka or Tusker who have 20 fans during a match are much better they dont have to pay 3m fines so bring in a class issue like if the tickets are hiked to like 1,000.00 alot of people will be locked out and i beleive most of this criminals wont want to come in and misbehave if they pay that amount and once peace and a new culture is developed a different breed of kogalo fans will come to the stadium the hooligans will have to watch on pay tv.Make the live games un affordable coz i think there is no other way Kogalo will never be able to control their fanatics they are too many and from diverse backgrounds ,you see this in the most loved, the most exciting team in Kenya today.Use that love as a tool try to keep fans pout of the stadium invoking the cost element i know they will still come but those who will come will still be more than those of thika tusker Mathare kcb name them ….combined but they will be more controllable than the hooligans who belong at the bottom of the food chain but create alot of broblems for everyone.Thats how i hate hooliganism am even ashamed at times to put on my Kogalo jersey.I dont beleive the EC can sort out any thing but i think Mwakio has an idea of what needs to be done.

1st I read politics in this ban.2nd these hooligans I think were working on the interest of other pple who r not happy with the work of EC.3rd the seats which were vandalized cannot be more than 100 & I think some pple r keen on eating from Gor. with the political situation in the country, we might find K’ogalo being banned from playing in Nairobi .Pliz EC increase gate charges to 500/- 4 terrases & 1000/- 4r mainstand so that we have real supporter in stadium.

  • Let us pay and serve our ban. All these debates are of no use. We are not new in this club. EC, please keep up the good work and correct the few grey areas. All the mercenaries in the stands and in this blog will be shamed when we win.

@6 and @8….increasing gate charges is not the solution to curb hooliganism. We pay 500/- for the center stand, look what happened when we played Karuturi!when the linesman allowed that goal all sorts of missiles rained on to the pitch….from where???center stand.Even if we make gate charges 2000/-,these same people will be there to vent the same anger when a decision goes against us!!

Solution….arrest the perpetrators, take them to court and if found guilty, jail them!!that would be the perfect lesson to others.Who wants to go to jail just because of a mere game??

  • I have noticed that the guys who cause chaos tend to stick together therefore making it very easy to be marked and stern action taken.Next time when you see trouble brewing, the Police should not be quick to throw the teargas, the real supporters should maroon them and deal with them without looking at the Jerseys. This will tame the wrong persons in the right Jerseys.

Bare Foot, you are right on it. I tell you that I found myself sitted with this fools. It starts with Bhang smoking, then fights amongst themselves and all sorts of whooliganism.
this is my take, Let police rainsack everyone and anything going in the stadias. target Illicit stuff infact much as Tusker is promoting their brand, I think it should be taken out of the fields.
I also have a thing with people going with whistles and blowing them to confuse everyone. lets do away with the likes of what we call scouts, they do nothing and aid whooliganism. lets leave security to the police and make it clear that whoever will be found with the above stuff shall face the law accordingly.
