Gor Mahia beat Nairobi Water 3-1

Scorer: Kenneth Muguna

Kogalo opened their 2017 GoTV shield campaign on a solid note. The match was played at Thika municipal stadium. Goals by Kenneth Muguna, George Odhiambo “Blackberry” and Wellington Ochieng were enough to give Gor Mahia a 3-1 win over Nairobi Water.

Goalkeeper Fredrick Odhiambo who had a solid display at the Sportpesa Supercup was between the posts , while midfielder Jean Baptiste Mugiraneza was also in the starting line-up.

It  was the Watermen who surprisingly took the lead first via Robinson Shitandi. Gor Mahia replied through Kenneth Muguna. George Odhiambo then gave Kogalo a 2-1 halftime lead before Wellington Ochieng put the issue beyond doubt.

It was coach Zedekiah Otieno’s second match in charge. Gor Mahia have won the Cup ten 10 times, more than any other team. Their last cup win was in 2012 when they beat Sofapaka on penalties.

  • Migi showed a lot of improvement. Seems the international break bore him anew. Tuyisenge did not get on the scoresheet but when Berry was hauled off he switched to the left wing and was devastating there. Maybe his best position is out on the wing as Jasego has always advised. Would have been happier with a goalfest but the scoreline looks respectable for jo waba.

We don’t need to chapa teams 15-1 like Ingwe. We can just do what is needed and save energy for KPL

  • Mara Timo missed chances, Mara Kagere missed chances and a defender scored,am tired of this disgusting report. Pls gor strikers make good use of the chances in front of goal. It is good Berry rarely wastes clear chances and should be given an opportunity against Ulinzi next weekend.

  • happy with the results and am sure there will be much progress with Zico in leadership till end of season though a few boys are still playing tiki taka and it should be discouraged at whatever price !

    • Jakoyo, which brand of football would you prescribe for the boys to play? Are you advocating for Yuora Nena long balls of bypassing the midfield with defenders picking out strikers direct and players running helter skelter all over the pitch chasing the ball wherever it lands? Build up football from the back systematically exploiting spaces and executing well planned attacking moves is what we require moving forward. Ze Maria taught us the basics though the flipside was too many backpasses by players who were afraid to express themselves. We maintain the same playing rythmn and flair but encourage more attack oriented moves but not discard tiki taka and resort to mpira ya zamani of ”ngama tek oloo philosophy”

  • @Jakoyo do you remember how one;Serge Pascal Wawa was over the moon with dealing with ‘yuora nena’ balls when Gor was playing Azam.
