Gor Mahia beat Posta Rangers 3-1 to advance

Gor Mahia won their round of 16 match in the 2018 Sportpesa shield, beating Posta Rangers 3-1. Kevin Omondi scored twice and Samuel Onyango added the third goal.
Additional reporting from futaa.com
Gor could have opened the lead from as early as the 7th minute but Samuel Onyango delayed too much and invited Jockins Atudo to close in on after he broke loose on the right flank. Posta had their chance in the 9th minute when they launched a superb counter-attack but Joseph Mbugi fluffed the supposed final touch and that was the unfortunate end to their attacks.

Peter Ng’ang’a was dangerously fouled by Lawrence Juma and the Gor midfielder had to be cautioned with the first yellow card of the match. Posta did not make any tangible investment with the resultant free kick.

Opener

Kevin Omondi slotted home the opener for Gor in the 35th minute after Atudo took a poor pass and thereafter losing it to Ade who was lurking around. The winger collected the ball and slotted past Baraza in a cool way.

Cavin Odongo wasted a marvelous chance for Posta in the 44th minute when he found himself all alone with Shaban Odhoji but he failed to score as Posta continued to be wasteful upfront despite a series of attacks.

Brace

Ade got his brace in the 53rd minute after he beat Baraza on the near post. Pamzo reacted by withdrawing Cavin Odongo and brought Paul Odhiambo just to give his team a cutting edge at the far end. Onyango provided Omondi with the pass for his second goal.

Substitute Odhiambo made his mark felt on the pitch when he picked quite finely a pass from Gershon Likono and lobbed it over Odhoji for Posta’s first goal. Likono atoned his sins for creating the assist after he had missed an earlier missed teh opportunity to score for the Mailmen. Posta was however punished more by Onyango in the 70th minute when he netted the third goal for the Green Army. Kerr introduced Ephrem Guikan and brought out the brace king Omondi to add more power in his attacking unit especially after Asudi was taken out.

Gor Mahia Starting XI: Shaban Odhoji, Wellington Ochieng, Wesley Onguso (Boniface Omondi), Joachim Oluoch, Charles Momanyi, Cercidy Okeyo, Bernard Ondiek, Lawrence Juma, Kevin Omondi (Ephrem Guikan), Samuel Onyango, Asudi Raphael (Wafula Innocent),

Unused subs: Fredrick Odhiambo, Eliud Lokuwom.

  • Splendid performance yet again. Every player in Gor is just superb from what i witnessed. Raphael Asudi…Lawi..Cersidy all did good and Boniface Omondi speedstar didnt even get much playtime. Omera Gor pek and congrats players and TB led by our great Sir Kerr..Afc meanwhile struggled galore against Mwatate United almost going to penalties much to the chagrin of Gilbert Selebwa and reprieve for clueless coach Zapata

The boys played well against a very strong Posta Rangers side.

Today Cercidy played to his potential.joachim and Onguso were somehow rusty but they stepped up in the second half.

Posta disappointed the handful of Afc fans who were rallying behind them hoping for an upset but an understrength Gor was too good for them!!

    • Cercidy has huge potential back from when he was with Nakuru All Stars but has not fulfilled all of it. Hope his best days are still ahead. Joachim and Onguso have not played much and the rustiness can be excused though others like Asudi, Wellington and K14 have also been in the same category but adapted better. Otherwise, an impressive result!!!

  • On a day where we fielded a new starting 11 and win convincingly, a passenger of international repute brags a brace and AR assures us that the KRA issue is inconsequential (some internal revolt and misunderstanding), i think its a great day to be associated with this club.

Who wouldn’t ? Even the fiercest critic has been silenced.

Jakoyo, could you spare Daddy some flak please!! He needed this to restore our hope , faith and belief in his ability. Remember form is temporary, class is permanent. Ade will come good if he gets regular run Out with the big boys.

    • @Jakoyo, let us respect our players and tagging them names such as passenger is making you look like a person who lacks good sense or judgment. Please spare us time and respect our players.

A passenger scored two goal and between you and him who is a passenger?

@jakoyo,Ade alikukosea nini. You hate this boy with passion. You are determined to destroy his career at Gor and really trying to turn every body against him.Alikunyanganya dame?Hayo ni kawaida. The boy is struggling to make up the grade after that high profile to God.We should only encourage him because, and unfortunately So,we know his qualities as well as his flipside and those are the dynamics of life.A man is at his weakest when he is down. There is an old adage that says you don’t beat a man when he is down.Kindly let’s learn to give credit where it is due.

After the 5-0 routing of the Rangers in Kisumu, I did not see much to celebrate as I convinced myself that The Rangers are having a poor run anyway this season which means they are weak. Now after this 3-1 kaning of the same by what is considered a team B, I can’t help but just marvel. My congrats this time are specifically to the coach. It takes a very good coach to tinker with a team like that and still get good results. Congratulations bwana Kerr. Erokamano.

  • I have been very consistent on my criticism of Kevin and Cercidy , my criticism has been solely based on the perfomances and on the verdict of their performance against Posta , it behoves me to congratulate them and encourage them to keep on posting such performances knowing the potential they possess .
However it is very unnecessary and unhelpful to the players ,if inspite of their good performance , you ignore it and instead revert back to the time they didnt perform and using that to continie berating them with insulting names such as passenger , what that then means is that your beef is personal and as such the joke then is on
you , in other words , You are a Joke

  • This is a perfect example of having depth in a team. It is healthy and also kills the syndrome of pride where a player may be tempted to think that without them, the team would go nowhere. Using players all the time for every game tires them out very quickly and they get fatigued.

Secondly some fans also get roped in when they begin to demand that certain players must always play.
The worst part of it however is player indiscipline. They become big headed, not wanting to be corrected and even skipping practices. But when they know that no player is indispensable, they show commitment because some body is always waiting on the wings.
On the positive side, when you loose a good player like we recently did with Kagere, the team is not caught up in limbo and a state of mourning. The potential fill up is already there, therefore things do not get stuck. Gor for me is on the right track. Keep the fire burning.

  • Let us stop tagging our players with negative names as these negative tags can break our players career and morale but instead let us encourage them and assist them from the problems they are facing. Indeed Gor Mahia has great players that need to be encouraged, supported, motivated and appreciated in order to help them unleash their internal potentials. We as fans will benefit immensely by enjoying victories after victories and celebrations will be the order of the day.

However those that are abusing and tagging players with negative names are not real fans but are halfwit, nincompoop, blockhead, buffoon, dunce, dolt, ignoramus, cretin, imbecile, dullard, moron, simpleton, clod etc if I am allowed to quote one of the critic politician.

Jaupunda your sentiment is correct and full of facts whoever thinks that without them Gor will not perform well is dreaming. Every player must work hard to impress the coach, misbehave and be replaced every body is capable in the team. This is what made Ade to go back to the drawing board and assess himself. He will improve day by day. No kagere no problem.

  • I can see some spoilers are asking coach Kerr to join Kenya Harambee stars. Our dear coach, never dream of joining the national team , it is like AFC leopards where coaches never stay for. We would be grateful if you can stay with Gor Mahia until you retire. All the best in Younger Vs Gor Mahia Much on Sunday.

Jo-Gor honestly I fail to understand some of us. An otherwise talented player underperforms and we are on his case buttressing him. Like a man he picks himself up despite serious adversities and puts up an inspiring performance and scores high Calibre goals and we are there reminding him of what he would wish to forget. What do we really want? A nominal player who only earns a salary yet not even warming the bench or an on-the-mend reformed player, who scores goals for Gor Mahia in competitive matches. Jackie, you are my friend, but I feel you have let me down on this one. Please let us join hands in mentoring and naturating mental strength for all K’Ogalo players without exception

  • @ BB….. well said. However, Its unfortunate a section of the bloggers have taken my comments in very bad faith inspite of finishing my comments with …’fiercest critic has been silenced’ .

Nothing personal ! Am/ will/shall continue to be one of the fiercest critics of players who dont perform but truth be told, sometimes in life this players need critics to up their game………….. am glad it is working for some this time round. Furthermore, I shall always remind them that there are alot of players in Africa willing to play for the club so they either shape up or be shipped out just like i did with Ze Maria and his tiki taka nonsense.

    I close my case.
