Gor Mahia blank Simba 2-0 to win Sportpesa cup
Gor Mahia emerged victorious in the final match of the 2018 Sportpesa Supercup. They beat Simba of Tanzania 2-0. The goals came from Meddie Kagere and Jacque Tuyisenge. As a result, Gor Mahia have won Ksh 3m and earned the right to play Everton at Goodison Park. And for the second straight season, Gor Mahia have won the Sportpesa Supercup without conceding a goal.

Champions Gor Mahia successfully retained the SportPesa Super Cup after a convincing 2-0 win over Tanzania’s Simba SC in the final at the Afraha Stadium, Nakuru on Sunday.
Goals on either side of halftime from the Rwandese duo of Meddie Kagere and Jacques Tuyisenge saw K’Ogalo put their opponents to the sword in a packed final.
Gor, who are also the league champions, will now travel to England to face top-flight side Everton at their Goodison Park home next month.
Gor also walked away with Sh3 million for their exploits, while runners up Simba went home with Sh 1million.
Gor coach Dylan Kerry could not hide his joy of beating Simba. It was a sweet revenge for the Englishman after he was bundled out of the club in a huff.
“I have now proved that I am the best coach in the region and Simba should now respect my coaching tactics as I am heading to Goodison Park in England, while they will be at home in Dar es Salaam,” said a delighted Kerr, who was dismissed from Simba after only six months at the helm.
Simba assistant coach Masoud Juma conceded defeat and congratulated Gor for the victory saying his charges were overwhelmed by their opponents’ vast experience.
“I fielded a relatively new and young side. I will now develop the side into a formidable team and I am sure we shall soon roar to the top of the regional football apex and revenge against Gor in the Kagame Cup next month,” said Masoud.
Earlier, Tanzania’s Singida United secured third place after edging out Kakamega Homeboyz 4-1 on post-match penalties during their third-place playoff match.
The sides were tied at 1-1 at the end of the 90 minutes and took penalties to decide the winner.
Singida pocketed Sh750,000, while Kakamega Homeboyz received Sh500,000.
Eight sides took part in the second edition of the competition which began on June 3.
Playing before a massive home fans in a dilapidated Afraha Stadium pitch, the enterprising Green Army hunted Simba from the moment Ethiopia referee Belay Tadese signalled the start of the epic final duel at exactly 3pm.
And hardly five minutes into the game, Francis Kahata initiated a brilliant move on the right flank and superbly passed the ball to the sprinting Tuyisenge along the touchline, who in turn squared to Kagere inside the box, who made a brilliant turn and fired a powerful shot past Simba goalkeeper Manula Aishi for his fourth goal of the tournament.
Aishi first handled the ball before it slipped from his hands and rolled into the net sending the thousands of Gor fans into rapturous celebrations.
The limping Simba’s first attempt on goal came in the 26th minute when Rashid Juma’s volley was cleverly blocked by Shaban Odhonji.
In the 31st minute, Gor’s George “Blackberry” Odhiambo threaded his way through the Simba defence, but his rising shot rested on top of the net.
In the 35th minute, Erustus Nyoni of Simba earned a yellow card for hitting Tuyisenge on the head while vying for an aerial ball.
In the ensuing confusion, Gor captain Harun Shakava was booked by the Ethiopian referee for disent.
Three minutes later, Blackberry’s 24 meter free kick from outside the box rebounded on the chest of goalkeeper Manula before it was cleared as a charging Kagere missed an opportunity to sweep the ball into the net.
Tadese was forced to give Tuyisenge a yellow card for dissent after he momentarily lost his temper.
Three minutes before the breather, Kahata playing before his home town fans nearly doubled the scores when he failed to convert a beautiful pass from Godfrey Walusimbi inside the box with a powerful grass cutter.
On resumption, Gor’s attacking machine led by Kahata, Tuyisenge and Kagere continued to trouble the Simba defence with constant attacks.
And their spirited efforts were rewarded 10 minutes into second half, when Humphrey Mieno sent a delicious cross with Tuyisenge completed with a simple tap in to score his first goal of the tournament.
Moments later, Kahata rolled with the ball on the right flank but his cross was not converted into a goal.
Five minutes before the final whistle, Gor continued with their tale of missed chances and this time it was the turn of Tuyisenge to blast over with the goal at his mercy.

I once in this forum called Kogallo a chameleon team. That is; we change our colour according to the environment. We play an international Match, we play like an international team (Games against Everton, USM, Hill city and now sport less cup are good examples). We play in the local league, We begin to play like a local club. If we can easily beat other champions like simba et al, why is it that the likes of chemelil sometimes give us a run for our money? This Sportpesa tournament attracted Efusi, Dar es Salaam Young Africans and Simba Sports Club – teams that are by all rights East and Central Africa’s best. K’Ogalo has emerged tops. What more will the boys have to prove in the CECAFA games? Notwithstanding Musonye’s arrogance! Let Gor Mahia youth team play in Musonye’s tournament.

Congrats team Kogalo, my main worry and deepest concern is the future of this team!! With such a superb performance in all tournaments and league, we need to expect mass exodus of players and Kerr by end of the season!! The same case that happened during Nutal’s era! We lost almost all top and key players plus the coach till the club could not manage even to maintain it’s ranks in KPL!!

I noticed that we rarely change the ball from one wing to another even after displaying some sambusa .Thanq GM for making us proud.Kudos.

On the Everton trip I URGE the EC/TB/Sportpesa to ensure that ALL our current/new players make the trip even those who wouldn’t make the matchday squad. They ALL deserve it as a reward for their performance.

Mathare United pulled out of the Gotv to concentrate on the league which they never won. Yanga is alleged to have pulled out of CECAFA in order to concentrate on CAF CC. Congratulations to the Team and everyone who made all these things to happen. May I also bring in the other perspective that is always heralded by the coach Kerr. He highlights that Gor is actually carrying Kenya on its shoulders. Show casing what football is being playing in Kenya and I think this is good. looking at the attendance it was mix off everyone irrespective of what club they support. It was not even a tribe issue.The attraction point was to watch good football. That is what we need in the in the Country. As I have always and others have also said it, we need to have several clubs playing good football and that will raise the standards. As it were now Gor is away above every body else. The question therefore begs on the other clubs. What are their coaches doing/ What kind of Technics are they imparting to their teams? This is the question that All other coaches should struggle. If they don’t look at it seriously then Gor will continue to brag and rightly so……just my thoughts.

Speaking of beefing Gor Mahia attack, there is a kccafc want away striker, Shaban Mohamed, who has a return per game of atleast 2 goals in the games he has started. He is fast and aggressive and very efficient Infront of goal. He is the reason kccafc is in CAF Champions League. Gor Mahia might want to look into that, if there’s a slot for a foreign player.

1. his age.
2. his conduct and work ethics.
3. his physique.
4. his interpersonal relations.

BB i know the lad he was in Onduparaka FC from Northern Uganda which we played a friendly against some pre-seasons back…Well he is relatively young since no footballer is ever their real age jn Africa but on signing him well….Continental Stalwarts are my thing at this point though he is a decent striker

What strategies is EC formulating to tap this potential, what about season tickets.
Every season we must play:
1) 17 league home games
2) 1 Shield match
3) 1 CAF match
4) Plus a couple of friendly matches.
Sell a season ticket cum membership of 30 match per season for kes.3,000 (per season ticket) advance payment and with an uptake of:
1) 5,000 fans the club will raise kes.15M before the season starts,
2) 10,000 fans will raise kes.30M
3) 15,000 fans will raise kes.45M and so on.
In 2010 AR and his EC let the goodwill from the GMFC slip away, let him not make the same mistake again. He must capitalize of the current goodwill GMFC is enjoying.
EC also sort out Innocent Wafula’s nationality issue because I think its eating to our foreign players quota.

Perhaps it is time that greats like Wuonpap, Dinga, Walter Alando Bwoga, Eblezing Diva, Mwakio, Okotb Jabilo, Pareyio Ole Lelerue, Okewkanango, Nyarkogalo, A Person, Jasawagongo and The Villager resurfaced.
Meanwhile Oduor12 to reinforce your point, I think nothing will stop Gor Mahia from attracting the best talent if we take the path you are advocating. I always wonder why our EC are reluctant even to pilot this seasons tickets idea. With quality players Got Mahia brand will be even more credible hence more appealing to sponsors. Just look at the kind of marketing we are doing for Sportpesa and it can definitely get better.
Nyakwar Kwadha has raised a very valid concern. Player and coach exodus can only be prevented by financial stability. It is only season tickets that can assure us of that financial stability in the short term. EC should consider this idea seriously. I shudder to imagine losing these talented players next season. The loss of Marcelo, Aucho, Olunga, King David and Teddy Akumu still hurts.

My take is that Kogalo should pull out of CECAFA
WHY?……….And with a pool of more than 30 players it does not make sense really.
It is not the size that matters. Our players need to recuperate. We need to catch up with the league, we need to give Yanga a heavy hammering next month. CECAFA is not a priority now.
@Jamriambo can remember the past glory when K’Ogalo had the famous “Zamalek six” suspended by CAF due to fracas in Egypt and we still headed to Sudan with a weakened outfit only to subdue and maul EFUSI in the finals CECAFA….
The TB, PLAYERS and EC believes that we have what it takes to participate in both local, regional and continental competitions….if need be we are in the transfer window that allows us to beef up the squad accordingly and continue with football business disruption free.
Pulling out is a cowardice move that will end up denying the not so frequently used players the opportunity to showcase their skills and make us proud in football business that they are employed to undertake.

This Shaban Muhammed guy seems to be quite some player. He is credited to have contributed to KCCA’s achievement in CAF club championship. Interestingly, he captained Onduparaka before joining KCCA in a move that didn’t go well with Onduparaka fans and the team.

I wish to weigh in on the matter of Shaban Muhammad , this guy captained the UG under 20 tournament in Zambia 2017 , he is a brilliant footballer with a brilliant football brain, I would not hesitate to compare a disciplined Shaban to Mohammed Salah but this boy has a serious indiscipline problem , as late as yesterday the kcca coach was threatening to throw him out of the team for not turning up for a game, so yes , the guy is exceptionally good and with both feet but like Our Gattuso , he is a very disruptive element .
Kcca have even gone to the extent of pleading with his father to tone him down but all in vain and hence thats the person we would be getting were we to sign him .
No need. We have had enough with Collins Okoth. Huyo tumeacheni akule jeuri yake. Discipline is a must for any serious professional. J’Asego let’s cast our net elsewhere. In fact if we can get Solomon Mensah then our current strikers can be sharper and more effective.

It is at such times when all the news emanating from all entities vis a vis Gor Mahia is good , be it from the mainstream media , social media and the whole kenyan football fraternity , that we have to take another look at where we are as a club and taking advantage of the outpouring of goodwill, what we need to do to further grow this brand .
As it is now , am yet to see any deliberate action by the EC to harness and harvest .
In the last few weeks , starting from the Hull city game to date , there has be been a discernible increase in the number of fans queuing to attend kogalo matches despite the absence of any off field effort by the EC .
I would have wished to see a survy marketing guru acting on behalf of Gor Mahia in the media stations extoling football fans to come watch this team that has earned the rights to go to goodison park to play Everton , or even before the simba game , this team that is destroying all and sundry South of the Sahara .
That is the part of the EC , the TB have got their act together , but we as the fan base must also do our part , and that is not only continuing to turn up in large numbers , but also ensuring that the few amongst as who are hell bent on destroying our brand are desuaded by all means necessary that we will never allow them to destroy what we are paistakinly building .
Truth be said , the news that some joliero died on the road to machakos filled me with tremendous joy , my only regret was that they were only three and after
that another regret was that after causing violence in the Gor, Sony game , that non of them suffered broken skulls and limbs.
I am not going to accept the fact that from the hundreds of thousands of fans spread all over the country and who are enough to fill the stadias are discouraged from doing so by the activities from a few deluded vagabonds who in all cases are always from nairobi .
Every time we take one step forward , they strike and take as three steps backwards , then we have to start afresh again and again .
By this time , bar the occasional self induced bad media , we would be commanding on a weekly basis the kind of crowd witnessed during the hull city game , we have enough numbers to do
It in all towns , be it in Mombasa , Nairobi , Nakuru , Kisumu , Dar es Salaam , Kampala , Juba just we showed it against Rayon Sports in Kigali .
For that to happen , the hooligans must die , and unapologetically so and no condolenses when that happens , not from me anyway .
When that happens, the sky will be the limit in our growth .
