Gor Mahia blanks SoNy Sugar 2-0

A double from Jacque Tuyisenge put Gor Mahia’s 2018-2019 aspirations back on track.

Additional reporting from the Nation

Gor Mahia bounced back from a disappointing week with a deserved 2-0 win over Sony Sugar in a midweek SportPea Premier League match at the Afraha Stadium in Nakuru on Wednesday.

Rwandan striker Jacques Tuyisenge struck a goal in each half to guide Hassan Oktay’s charges to the win.

But it was the sugar millers who looked hungrier for early goals when they took the game to Gor’s half.

Barely two minutes into the game, the visitors had already won themselves a corner but Daniel Otieno’s effort went begging.

Moments later, Tobias Otieno had his first direct attempt in front of the goal just outside the box but his shot sailed over the cross bar.

Gor’s speedy striker Nicholas Kipkirui raced with the ball on the right wing in the sixth minute, evaded a tackle from his marker, dribble into the box but his powerful shot was only good for the side netting.

Gor took the lead on 11 minutes after Tuiyisenge fired home from a Sammy Onyango cross.

Kenneth Muguna should have doubled their advantage on 21 minutes but his rasping shot from the edge of the box was stopped by Sony custodian Kevin Omondi.

Sony head coach Patrick Odhiambo brought in Ronald Otieno and rested Ambrose Ayoyi before the break.

There was drama during the half time break after centre referee George Mwai was accosted by Gor team manager Jolawi Obondo, who blocked his way as he walked to dressing room accusing him of denying Gor a goal after Sammy Onyango’s corner kick was deflected by a Sony defender into his own net.

The security officers at the venue moved in quickly and cooled the tempers. Tuyisenge would then complete his brace 20 minutes from time with a thumping header from Boniface Omindi’s superb cross.

Omondi put in a man-of-the-match performance in this tie.\

OLIECH JOINS THE FRAY

Oktay introduced Francis Kahata, Dennis Oliech and Benard Ondiek for Sammy Onyango, Tuyisenge and Lawrence Juma late on.

“This game we played for 60 minutes only as we had a lot of sideshows outside and inside the pitch. My boys were intimidated and the referee failed to protect them. The officiating was also poor,” said Sony coach Odhiambo.

Oktay said he was happy with the result after a terrible week.

“We created many chances and failed to convert them last week but against Sony we made sure the few chances we created we made good use of them,” said coach Oktay.

Congratulations!!! Meanwhile goal.com reports that Gormahia has also been involved in match fixing including Afc, sofapaka and zoo. When our defenders led by ‘captain’ Shakava allow easy goals and fall down deliberately then they have been paid to do so. There are brokers in Gor whose intention is to earn cheap money regardless of fans feeling after painful losses. They then camouflage themselves and purport to be of help in order to seal their real intensions. So sad indeed.

  • I dont expect alot of comments today.no space for negative energy.90 per cent of the so called fans are deflated.you live to fight another day.its unfortunate that oktay intentionally limits or totally deny you opportunity to apply your enormous negative energy.
Lets pray that you get the opportunity soon lest you apply it to yourselves(suicide).

Hehe @ moses even 1st eleven against New Stars De Douala home tie complete with the formation and tactics to be employed i had put here two days prior to the match but to believe or not is everyone’s right. No single coach has achieved anything in GM alone without help from the Higher Bench that i sit. That higher bench plays the role of Technical/Sporting Diretor of GM to ensure continuity in terms of player quality that any incoming foreign Coach can work with and achieve instant success no matter how inexperienced they might be in African football

Congrats to the boys. @Joods, I agree with you. Had we lost this match we could be doing 30+ negative comments by now. Patience is a virtue that we all need to cultivate.

@Gor Player, a team that’s going to the grass doesn’t stay in top ten by the first 10 games. You don’t seem to be trying hard enough.

  • Only the Zamalek game will indicate any improvement in Gor. This team is not ok. Beating Sony is not an indicator that anything has improved. This win was necessary to both EC and Tech bench to pacify the fans… nothing more. Gor tech bench has to improve itself, why do we have players who attend training sitting at the bench while others can absent themselves and still get playing time. It explains alot why some players move like ‘tortoises’ in the pitch.
When I see a foreign coach struggling to beat Sony 2Nil then doubt is raised. Given, clubs raise their game while playing Gor but taking into account the type of players Gor recruits vis a vis the other clubs a 2Nil score against a club like Sony does not augur well for the Afcon championships.
This means that Oktay team could not create chances and even when they did, could not utilise them… so you wonder what such a scenario would be with Zamalek.
I am really waiting for Oktay to silence me this weekend.

@Dinga everyone needs help when the going gets tough. Oktay is receiving that help right now since some things that might have worked in Braintree United are not applicable here. What we do is find a polite practical way to tell him hii na hii onge haiwezi try hii na hii. Coupled with drills in training to perfect them we shall be okay. GM suffers from a Technical and Tactical formation problem where keeping overall team shape collapses everytime. I will not delve too much into that as ahead of Zamalek those holes shall be plugged…

Hehe hapo sawa team K’Ogalo. Like i always say much to the chagrin of many of my detractors here GM is strong because it has the likes of Jasego sitting on the Higher Bench. When the going gets tough for any Coach I simply move in and take charge from behind the scenes. There is no way Kenneth Muguna and Bernard Ondiek were going to sit endlessly on the bench while we lose since Coach has preferred star players. Neither will the centre back pairing of Joachim and Momanyi be considered second best while clearly the other preferred one is blundering. Eliud Lokuwam young boy get ready your chance is coming also very soon. We will mix everything until a constant winning groove is back in K’Ogalo. This league is going nowhere but being retained in a second 3 Peat. Now focus shifts to the Zamalek game where starting today drills on a shifting formation of 4-4-2 and 4-2-3-1 where Kahata is NOT on the left flank but rather playing free role behind Ssekisambu with Tuyisenge the gunman upfront while Lawi rotates the pivot with Boniface Omondi and Sammy Onyango or Blackberry playing wide offensive is to be perfected. The centre backs remains as yesterday with Mbish and Batambuze doing what they do best. Mustapha hii hapa achia wazito wajaribu. Others will say i stop interfering with TB but I have been doing this in oversight with all foreign coaches and trophies is what we have achieved time and again…

Congrats to the team. Like someone has mentioned up there, we could be doing 50 negative posts by now if we lost or drew. Somebody had also predicted kichapo from Sony. It is a chronic disease here. We lose one game, guys talk like we have lost 20. Mara Boniface Oluoch mara Shakava mara Zico. Yawa!!!. Bonny did not concede in Cameroun, he was our saviour. Yesterday he did not concede. Wait until he concedes you will hear, bring Peter Odhiambo.
Patience is a virtue, let us not put a lot of unnecessary pressure on the team. Onge gima osekethore.

      1. Mathare 24 Points
      2. Bandari 18 Points
      3. Tusker 17 Points
      4. Gor Mahia 16 Points
      5. Western Stima 16 Points
      6. Kariobangi Sharks 15 Points

The above is despite us having a game in hand next against Western Stima that if we win we go second on the Log. The season is still within grasping distance so long as we don’t slip up again…

Jasego, make sure Muguna gets as much playtime…, Kahata will definitely leave in June and with Mieno gone, the team is short of creative ball players. Ondiegi should also get a run out once in while so that he can provide cover. Lawrence is good but he need more time before he can become a dependable central midfielder for us, same for Bonny Omondi…so don’t toss out blackberry just yet he. Cercidy must force himself into the first team… he should take advantage of Wendos slump to make a case for himself, if he doesn’t then we need to buy a dmf who is comfortable on the ball, can pass the ball and provide cover for the defense
