Gor Mahia blast City Stars

Courtesy of michezoafrika.com

A brace from Danni Sserenkuma and one goal each from Rama Salim and Edwin Lavatsa extended Gor Mahia’s unbeaten form to eight matches in a row and cemented their position in the Kenyan Premier League top six. The one sided encounter was played at a packed City Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Gor Mahia showed intent to score from the time kick-off whistle was blown. Danni Sserenkuma won a free kick in a promising position but Victor Ali wasted it.

A minute later on the other end, a casual mistake by Donald Mosoti allowed experienced Francis Thairu space to shoot but the hawk eyed Fred Onyango parried  the shot for a corner. The corner went inside the net but the referee came to Gor Mahia rescue when he ruled that Ibrahim Kitawi had pushed keeper Onyango from behind.

Gor Mahia continued with their attacks. In the 15th minute Donald Mosoti’s header from a free kick well was dealt with well by former K’Ogalo  keeper  Roy Kagunzi who was between the posts for the Kawangware side.

Red hot Danni Sserenkuma opened the scoring in the 18th minute with a beautiful shot that City Stars defender Nicholas  Ochieng  had a slight touch of. Kevin Omondi provided Sserenkuma with the pass.

Nine minutes later Sserenkuma  again beat his marker again then placed his shot past the keeper for his brace that doubled Gor Mahia’s advantage.

In the 33rd minute City Star’s  Francis Thairu stole the ball in midfield then set-up Justus Basweti who fired off target.

The other close chance fell to Gor Mahia through Victor Ali who rifled a shot from distance but despite City Stars keeper spilling the ball, no Gor striker was in place thus allowing the defenders time to clear the threat.

Gor Mahia  led 2-0 at half time..

Ten minutes after the break, an advancing Danni Ssereknkuma missed a clear opportunity after  Rama Salim did well to beat two City Stars defender  then send a cross.

A minute past the one hour mark substitute City Star’s George Mwangi who had come on for Francis Thairu wasted a great chance  with only the keeper to beat.

Rama Salim made it 3-0 in the 63rd minute with a solo effort. He rounded the keeper then calmly slotted the ball into the empty net.

Satisfied with the result, Gor Mahia coach Logarusic brought in Edwin Lavatsa and Itubu Imbem for the goal scorers Rama Salim and Dann Sserenkuma.

The pair had an immediate impact but Itumbu Imbem’s goal after a great effort  from Lavatsa was ruled offside.

Edwin Lavatsa showed some class with a great move and goal two minutes to the end of regulation time to compound city Stars misery.

  • the team is now playing what we can call football, not the chaos that ZD used to bore us with.the tactics employed are a great advantage to our forwards who lack height but are very good ball players-kevo,rama,lavatsa and dani.these is what gormahia was renowned for, beautiful football which used to keep fans on their feet.ive always insisted that if you put the ball down the spain/barca way then you will always have countless opportunities to score, unlike the mbele way that zd,masika and to an extent mosoti like.WE NEED TO INVEST IN AN ACADEMY TO ENSURE WE TEACH BUDDING TALENTS THIS BEAUTIFUL BRAND OF FOOTBALL FOR US TO CONTINUE ENJOYING THESE KINDS OF RESULTS.

  • CONGRATS BOYS!

As you all know, kajiado north constituency is already in an election mood following issuance of writs by the speaker of the national assembly. I was therefore away in the countryside laying groundwork for another energy sapping campaign for my candidate.
I am excited our boys ran over city stars by four goals to naught. The goal spell is over.

May i salute the goal scorers, two goals from danny and one goal each from salim and Lavatsa. The four goals this evening is a clear indication that Gor is bringing their groove back demonstrated by renewed confidence, team work and a clear appetite for goals. The loyal supporters of this great club I believe has a lot to write home about. Bravo everyone!

  • The best GM match I’ve watch in around two seasons. We totally dominated the match from start to finish.
I think it’s high time supersport reward deserving players with their MVP prizes.Akumu for me deserved to get man of the match award,he dictated everything in that midfield. presenting the award to anyone who scores is not the way to motivate all players.
    Next is Ulinzi then Afc…,

Today’s performance was exceptionally good. We played a very entertaining soccer and I think the strikers have matured up and can score at will. On the defense and midfield I must say it was really good today compared to the match at Nakuru

  • Looks like we are now spoilt for choice upfront. Rama/Dani combination can be subs’ted by the Lavatsa/Imbem combination. What more can we ask for? My worry is that Kevin ‘Daddy’ appeared ‘rusty’. As one of the most skilled players we need him to get his groove back, especially when we play Effusi, one of his best customers. And where the Kevin ‘Master’? Anguyo/Mosoti defence is also proving to be good, especially on aerial balls

Mcosweto, we share the same sentiments, akumu was phenomenal today again. He deserved it bt his pay day is coming soon. The boys passed the ball well and if we continue to play like that, who will stop us? It was a flawless Kogalo display and I cudn’t help but go home to watch the recorded version. I love this club. Totally inside. My quest for the contribution towards the players bonus remains. Let’s do it th mpesa way. Someone to lead this project. Let’s get started.

@Pod Antie I still maintain that your idea is brilliant, but the question is: who will ‘bell the cat’? Who will take the plunge and coordinate this undertaking bearing in mind that ‘pesa ne ondhogo Yesu’ (money led to the betrayal of our Lord).

It takes one to come forward and be philanthropic, but if I volunteer to coordinate then the next thing I will be told is:
    1. Acquire some footwear first.
    2. Change my banditry ways first.
In other words fear of taking responsibility and mistrust are the biggest impediment in this blog.

Personally I would nominate any of these gentlemen to oversee this project: Dan, Okoth Jabilo, Arrumtiddi, Kassam Mwivangano, Jasawagongo, Oduor12, Motema Pembe, Albert Kosero, Wuonpap, Pareyio or Ochigah or Pundit or Mwakio.

It is high time we went beyond vocal support for these lads. It is a pity that a performance like this latest one should go unrewarded.
Perhaps the other not so attractive alternative is to channel the funds through some contracted registered company!!!

Someone kindly note that the KPL defending champs have been bundled out from CECAFA club tournament in round one and that speaks volumes about the standard of the game in Kenya.

  • That’s what we’ve been pleading 4 for the last 2 years. ENTERTAINMENT.I’ve noted that K’galo is now too hot for the teams at the lower half of the table.I can now be patient and wait for the team to GEL against stiffer competition(e.g Ulinzi,AFC,Tusker) which requires experience.
    The EC must maintain stability.
Lastly I salute coaches “Miguna” Logarusic. Sr.Bob,TM Oqweno, and the entire team for the “COME BABY COME” style of soccer and Dan “Flava” Sserenkuma,Daktari and Love-A-Star for the goals.
Love-A-Star thx 4 starting 2 repaying our faith in u.This guy is pure class apart from ground skills he has the potential to provide the aerial threat we’ve been lacking.

  • ok …. second position tunabisha hodi, one of these guys is bound to slip. mr croat i gave u 5 matches to decide, u have taken 4. v.good. they will slip one by one, i expect ulinzi and brewer and sofapaka to kindly donate there positions, afc will play power, but given their background i expect this. i thnk mr craot u brought the business mentality that kenyan soccer needed. as match as i believe that sofapaka and brewery are best managed they have one major undoing, and this is eating into the fabric of the players, their players do not give the UMPHH.. the japs call it WAA. case in point is the brewery game with azam, brewry drew a game they shud have won, and the indiscipline in one shikokoti spoke loudly, u kud clearly see that the coach kud do nothing about this guy. small PEMBES on the players heads, this is what happens when the coach has no executive powers, major problem with thse PARASTATAL CLUBS . this is what was killing gor, the players are there but thnx this has now changed. i’m afraid to say sofapaka has this same disease. gor players , i can make a prediction, take this league and see ur lives change, not only in kenya but in africa, gor can do this despite the mess in kenya soccer(harambee stars). i still advocate that gor is one of the two clubs that can lift kenya soccer, when they see gor grub its rightful place in africa thats when fkf will wake up. but as mr craot says, lets not get excited, league, east and central then champions africa. but the MOST IMPORTANT THING will always be one and this is THE NEXT MATCH. k’ogalo GO GO GO .

  • Now bring back kwa kiwanja- Kevin ‘Master’ Ochieng. Very versatile and unpredictable. The beauty of ths win is tht we played wtht O. Mbugua, N. Auma, K. Ochieng and Odhis in our midfield. Ths shws we have enough quality cover in the midfield. It excites me to think tht we still hve the follwng for cover: Y. Juma, S. Nassio, M. Mohammed, Imbem, Lavatsa and the young Anthony G. We jst need to knw whn to play wtht the handbreaks and whn not to. The team is well grounded now and Wekesa has grdatly imprvd both for pace and awareness. The partneshig of Anguyo will win our vote of approval once we come against some of the quickest strikers in the League. Owino is holding off Nassio bcz he is able to read and pass on the go. Look at his reverse pass to Lavatsa for the Fourth goal! Well-done Coach and the whole team. ‘Bring it on Baby’. Lets teach a few footballing lessons to the pretenders to the throne. To God be the glory, great things he has done.

Thanx boys for bringing happiness and smiles in our faces.
With the correct mentality, inspiration and confidence, football can be so easy,as happened yesterday. When you have scored two or three goals and you continue creating chances, you become very calm and relaxed. You could see the self belief and confidence level of pressure-prone players eg abondo, anguyo, jerry, just amazing.Lessons learnt.Goals will always relieve pressure from you make you calm and settled.

I don’t think that coach logarusic is a very good coach in the tactical and technical aspects of the game,(ogolla and to some extent ogweno are more technically and tactically astute).Logarusic is a manager, someone who gets things done,a hands on man,a no nonsense fellow and an inspiration.Other than pablo and sserenkuma I just see the same players who failed under awono are the same players who are now running riot in the league.

Sometimes what is needed is just a change of philosophy and,an inspirational talk and alittle bit of ‘brutality’,and that is what our maverick croat has brought. Let’s keep focus, and as @dinga says, the most important thing is usually THE NEXT MATCH.
@okoth jabillo we are needed ‘peeling off the goals!’

@ arrumtiddi your point has been noted. At times you just enjoy football until you are left “CLUELESS” like “Ran BABY ran”. My worry for goals are somehow now cooling down my wonderful comrade “ARRUMTIDDI”. But the real take is that they are “Sweet & juicy goals”

@ATTENDANT and @ Benson Disi my social media SHEMEJI the “TITLE PRETENDER” is stalking your back OMWAMI, keep winning until EFUSI can attain 55 points without blinking to be safe because someone is “STALKING YOU WITH A RE-LOADED ” football made in K’OGALO. I hope we are going to enjoy an entertaining “TIK TAK” football flowing with the lyric of “come baby ” at KASARANI come this weekend . Wish you all the best and tell AFC players to keep the ball on the ground. Wasi cheze “ORODHA” . Please talk to Grand Pa “Wephukulu” and tell him that the maverick Logarusic will not honor the match if you let our former “PPO ERICO” to clearing balls to whoever it may concern. Let them enjoy the play, ran and think without “KUPURA MPIRA” since this is super 8. We are not robbing you points at this stage but it is a dress rehearsal to help you guys improve the Kenyan football.

@ Barefoot Bandit We are now @+8 aggregate with 21 for and 13 against. AFC are +12, TUSKER + 15 ,THIKA + 9, SOFAPAKA and ULINZI are +7, so can you press on with the scriptures and prayers so that come Wednesday we can sit pretty in position 3 with +10.

@Okoth Jabilo the holy scriptures remind us that the effective and fervent prayer of righteous men (and women) can avail so much. 1 Peter 3:12 states that for the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their prayer, BUT THE FACE OF THE LORD IS AGAINST THOSE WHO DO EVIL.

Comrades as we pray for even greater exploits we must shun all manner of evil. The lord is expressly displaced with any manner of soccer hooliganism, disruption of other peoples’ schedules and businesses or destruction of property in the name of celebration. Let us shun all this vices as we celebrate THE COME BABY COME brand of football (as Oduor12 puts it).

@Dinga I am aware that your investigative work on the fake ADIDAS jerseys is at a crucial stage that’s why I excluded you in my list of nominees otherwise this blog truly appreciates you. The blog is looking forward to the damning findings contained in your report.
Please note that I included Wuonpap because he apparaently has some time after having completed reading the SIANG’A MEMOIRS and will soon be presenting a manuscript on POLICY AND STRUCTURES TOWARDS ATTAINMENT OF GOR B, U17, U14 AND U6.

@29 Albert Kosero -Sofaset Branch-Kampala it is nice to read your change of heart and willingness to contribute financially for the initiative to motivate and provide incentive. Surely as you did put it last time; it is only a fool who can not accept to change when the course of change is inevitable.
I also had that hard feeling on Logarusic tactics and brutal approach in expunging players but from what I saw yesterday I believe he has disapproved his critics.

I watched the kind of football display whose statistic am yet to see in the KPL for the last 15 years with regard to ball possession and the exact number of completed passes especially in the second half .
I am worried that Lugarusi may be poached sooner cause of instilling change and making K’Ogalo boys to approach teams with confidence, ease, patient and ultimately tormenting them from all corners with some sparkling soccer. THANK YOU ALMIGHTY GOD.

@ MWAKIO and Barefoot Bandit please keep up with the magical Prayers! Thanks guys you have a wonderful believe in GOD and truly you are touching our souls and spirit.

  • It’s good that now we as GM fans are seeing things differently. I remember our lady fan (can’t remember her name) telling us how the coach was a journeyman who didn’t achieve anything in Ghana and was just looking to build a name at GM. At least now the coach has made us know what was ailing the team. Unfortunatelt it had to take a mzungu and several loses to show us the problem with the team.
Kudos to the fans for believing in the team even when everything was looking downwards. We can now see what patience can achieve. Let’s Keep the support coming as I can see that our players are no longer intimidated by the green army. Let’s pray that we win the next two games (Wednesday and Sartuday) and the signal we will have sent out there will be scary to our opponents. The other advanatage is that all our games apart from Muhoroni are at home. Even Muhoroni I know will opt for Afraha or Nairobi, what with the financial wndfall some teams are getting from us

Just a moment, thats what we were waiting for. Pray that the table leaders falter just a bit and we will pita kati kati.At least they are taking note of Kogalo asking the right and hard questions about this years league. If things go on like this, why not, we can be champions without doubt.

I have however read something in a weekly paper about fans defacing the Tom Mboya Statue in town after every match. Please please lets not bring shame to ourselves and to the club and moreso to the sponsors.See Citizen this week, page 3.It is shocking how some of us behave.

  • REMEMBER THIS EQUATION
FANS PRESSURE=PRESSURE TO THE ECX2=PRESSURE TO THE TECHNICAL BENCHX3=PRESSURE TO THE PLAYERSX4=PRESSURE TO OPPONENTSX5

Therefore it ALL STARTS WITH THE FANS.KEEP UP THE PRESSURE AND LETS MOVE IT TO THE NEXT LEVEL.

As the technical bench keeps focused lets also focus on:
1.Having GMFC ran by a board of directors
2.EC should be more accountable and transparent by publically publishing accounts every ¼ or half year.If K’galo continues with that brand of soccer expect gate collections to double in the after the nxt 2 games.
3.And many more good suggestions in the gormahia.net archives
4.EC act on ”Miguna” Logarusic’s contract NOW B4 he migunas us.
Let me suggest that we amend GMFC constitution that any EC that in future allows K’galo to drop below position 5 immediately vacates office for gross negligence. Remember a supreme court judge has been declare unsuitable for office coz he did not do his core duty delivering JUDGMENTS, the same benchmark should apply to our EC.

  • Just read that our game with Ulinzi has been postponed indefinitely (see futaa.com). That’s good news considering that Ulinzi are so physical and the chances of our ball-players being hacked down and picking injuries was worrying. Now we can concentrate on meeting Ingwe with a fully-fit squad.
On defacing the TM statue, that’s what we have said all along concerning some of our fans behaviour though I doubt whether they are the ones doing that. Why should they do that?
