Gor Mahia close in on Juma Balinya
Gor Mahia are pursuing Ugandan striker Juma Balinya who is currently a player for Young Africans of Tanzania
Additional reporting from the Nation
Gor Mahia are on the verge of signing Ugandan striker Juma Balinya from Yanga SC as replacement for Yikpe Ghislain who was poached by the Tanzanian giants last month.
Balinya is already in the country and coach Steven Polack has told Nation Sport that he will assess the player in Tuesday’s training session at Camp Toyoyo grounds.
“The player arrived today (Monday) and I will asses him today to see if he is fit to play for Gor Mahia. I may either decide to sign him after watching him today or a couple of training sessions. If he is not fit, we will not consider his services,” said Polack.
Balinya terminated his two year contract with Yanga in December, 2019 due to non-payment of salary, the same situation that led Yikpe to abandon K’Ogalo and sign for the Dar es Salaam based side.
Apart from Yanga, Balinya has also played for Uganda Police FC, Vipers FC, Bunamwaya FC and Lweza FC in his home country.
Balinya, who finished last season as top scorer in the Uganda Premier League with 17 goals while featuring for Uganda Police FC, will have to complete with Nicholas Kipkurui to earn a place in K’Ogalo’s striking role.
Gor Mahia is looking to bolster its squad this season, more so the striking department following the exit of Yikpe, Ghanaian Francis Afriye and Tanzanian Dickson Ambudo who has left due to the current financial instability at the Kenyan Premier League 18-time champions.

great stuff
Monday news on a Thursday? Awuoro !!!
He will be a good addition
I wonder how we will be able to recruit a foreign player when locally he players are boycotting practice and threatening to give a walkover. I don’t hear the EC pleading and urging fans to assist, or are they doing this behind the curtains?
Am wondering too… Maybe there is something we don’t know. The ECs silence is very discouraging. However much people want to help, it’s very difficult when you don’t know what is going on in house!!
As much as EC is not being clear with what is happening how about us fans? Why are we not receptive to the GMAF idea? While we are good at criticizing the EC as well as TB and players for poor results can we also stand out to be counted
And we might just dish our 1st walkover in years. Is it not at this time that a team needs its patron to stand up and be counted
The Economy is hard on everyone, even we fans we are struggling to survive, if a walkover comes we will accept it with both hands.
Dan original; How many times in a year do you expect a patron /patrons to stand up and get counted? GMFC should close shop, the current situation is becoming unpredictable .
GAMF is a brilliant idea, but I believe it can only work with a transparent and honest office bearers.Suppose it is highly successful what will The EC be doing with gate collections and other sources of contributions e.g paybill namba, bread initiatives etc.I hope am wrong, I think the EC have relaxed waiting to see if GAMF will pay the players.Bytheway where does the money for signing players always available.Kuna biashara ya sigalame hapa kogalo.
