Gor Mahia confident of a better outing

Gor Mahia coach Frank Nuttall is upbeat about Gor Mahia’s chances in this year’s Africa champions league. The scottish coach expressed satisfaction that the club will be able to play high profile friendlies ahead of their match against CNAPS of Madagascar.

“This is the kind of preparations I would have wanted and I thank the office for ensuring it happens. However, it is never easy to try and rebuild by replacing some key players.” he said to the Nation.

Coach Nuttall will need to rebuild the attack with a new set of players following the departure of the dynamic duo of Michael Olunga and Meddie Kagere.

Club official Ronald Ngala has also assured fans that this time around, the club’s performance in Africa’s premier club tournament will be better than before.

“We shall not be the whipping boys of the CAF Champions League tournament this year. We are aiming for the group stages and that is why we are undergoing all these preparations. Winning the KPL is also a key objective this season and to achieve all these requires very hard work,”

The fact that Gor Mahia have been invited by the top tier Sudanese sides is a sign of the club’s growing profile.

Gor Mahia will also be buoyed by the fact that vice captain  Musa Mohamed has finally signed a two year contract with the club. The club is now in the midst of finalizing a deal with Harun Shakava who is likely to pair up with Musa in central defence.

“We’ve agreed in principle and what remains is to tie the loose ends,” Ngala said to the Nation.

Meanwhile a number of players have yet to join the Gor Mahia camp including Khalid Aucho, Geoffrey Walusimbi, Karim Nizigiyimana, Innocent Wafula and Abouba Sibomana. Of these, Nizigiyimana and Walusimbi will be joining their team-mates in Sudan.
