Gor Mahia confident

Having arrived safely in Seychelles, Gor Mahia are now looking forward to making amends for their below par performance in the first leg. The return leg will be played on Saturday in Victoria.

Coach Logarusic has expressed confidence that his side will turn the tables on the Seychellois. “I have retained most of my players in the team and I have told them they have to give 100 percent and get a win away from home.

“We have prepared well and to me this will be a do or die affair as we will see to beat our opponents in their backyard despite the first round performance,” the Croat tactician told SuperSport.com

The squad in Victoria includes Anthony Akumu who is not eligible to play. “I am carrying Akumu because he played so well in the first leg and he deserved to be on the plane for the second leg,” explained Logarusic to the Daily Nation.

Indeed Akumu has been in storming form since the arrival of Logarusic one year ago. Prior to that, his form was slumping to the point that he could no longer command a regular place in the starting lineup. His place in the starting lineup will likely be taken by Moses Otieno. Alternatively, Logarusic could deploy Ivan Anguyo or David Owino. Both are perfectly capable of playing in defensive midfield.

Fans will be hoping that the team can rediscover its scoring boots. The trio of Rama Salim, Dan Sserunkuma and Edwin Lavatsa have not had much lack finding the net recently. To this end, new signing Paul Kiongera will be a critical cog in the Gor Mahia attack.

“Kiongera is a creative player who is able to link the attack well from midfield and he is an option going forward. I expect to see the best of his abilities as the season progresses,” Logarusic added

  • Yawa,Barefoot Bandit you are so right about the tears regarding the previous article. It is pure nostalgia.
Someone remind me Peter “Pierre” Ochieng was the younger brother to who?
Was it Swaleh “Oswayo” Ochieng or who?
I remember this legend used to play either at right back or attacking midfield. He could hold his own amongst legends like Orieko, Engine, Janabi, Fundi, Zangi, Artillery etc and was known as a fierce tackler/ ball winner.
As a midfielder he usually came on as a second half sub to keep our legendary “midfield based” soccer tip top for 90min. With such talented and dedicated players no wonder the mention of Gor Mahia used to send shivers down the opponents spine right across Africa.
Asante sana K’galo legends. Current squad strive to achieve this level. Anse Re-Union is not a big team, come back with victory.
Finally I’ve no problem with our forwards Kiongera and even Dan “Flava” being “selfish”. That’s the mark or a potentially great striker.

Beating anse-Re union in their own backyard is very possible, all what kogalo need is composure in front of goal, good luck

  • @ Jakoyo- Gor is playing away. You cannot attack fully. Kiogora, Lavatsa, Salim, Sserunkuma all upfront is too dangerous eventhough I believe they should attack fully in the first 10 minutes to try and force a quick away goal. There is however a big chance for GM since first leg was 0-0

This time round I’m very confident we’ll win. However, the strikers need to move with speed and urgency in order to realize this dream.

  • reading the last previous article makes me regret why I was born after those years of wonderful football by Gor Mahia. I pray that we get that class so that I can experience it personally.
It is a pity that nowadays we cant even fill Nyayo to three quarters.
After Anse we meet some Egyptian team and that’s when competition proper begins. Gor should at least get to group stage.
wish them all the best in the Islands of Indian Ocean.

@Oduor 12, “Pierre” was not related to Swaleh nor to anyone else on the team. The only brother duo I remember from this era was William and Enock Obwaka.
