Gor Mahia are through to the round of 16 in the 2018 Sportpesa Shield. This after they hammered Kenpoly 5-0 at Kenyatta stadium Machakos. The Nairobi county side were no match for the marauding K’Ogalo side.

Ivorian Ephrem Guikan notched a hat-trick. Lawrence Juma added another and Kenpoly scored an own goal.

Coach Dylan Kerr lauded his side for staying focused and playing well despite the glut of fixtures.

The players’ belief is amazing; we have had a tough schedule in the season but they keep going day by day and showing great team spirit. The dedication has been amazing and we can only laud them,” he said said Kerr to futaa.com

Some may take teams like Kenpoly for granted. But in past years, Gor Mahia were eliminated by lower tier teams. And the players cited fatigue as the reason. Such was the case in 2014 when GFE 105 of Eldoret eliminated K’Ogalo. In 2015, Nakumatt, then a lower tier side, eliminated Gor Mahia.  And in 2016, Gor Mahia were sunk by Nzoia Sugar which at the time was a lower tier team.

What was the line up…any one with the starting eleven ?

The scorers……once again does it not vindicate EC’s belief that some ‘passengers’ have overstayed their roles not that we are heading to CECAFA next week

    • tokmoruodho says:

you are very, extremely noisy and indeed carelessly noisy about Guikan, you are free to sign a contract with kogalo as a strikers we see how you do it….mondo Iwe baro wiwa gi Guikan, kwani goals mose loyo gin mag rugby. awacho ayueyo

  • Jasego says:

Guikan 3 strokes akin to CR7 at the world cup.Congrats team and tb.Levelmind fan bro you punched me the other day on my signigs but guikan yuko tu sawa na Samuel Daddy pia ameiva chance tu ndio wanafaa wapewe zaidi

  • ODHIS muga says:

Congrats to the players but let’s not overrate Guikan in this one. A hart rick against Ulinzi,Sofapaka,Ingwe or any Kpl team is the real proof of a true goalpoacher but Kenpoly hmmm no.What kind of defense did they offer? No complacency, the opponent was weak.Period.

    • dinga says:

What was Guikan was supposed to do? Guikan is one of the top scorers chez Gor. If the opponent was weak why were they allowed in this competition? You did not even watch the match yet you offer so much bile on striker who has delivered.

During the Abondo-Olunga partnership, Abondo ended being one of the top scorers simply because defenders were paying more attention to Olunga and not because Abondo had suddenly improved. Kagere could be scoring more simply cause of the attention given to Guikan. Why do I say this? Guikan has an high outside the 12box accuracy so any coach would ask defenders to give him more attention… thus freeing Kagere.
Defenders are facing more problems in the form of Guikan-Tuiyisenge presence. Tuiyisenge-Guikan keep getting bashed for not scoring enough yet ppl ignore the impact they have on the field as “dummies”.
1986 world cup, Germany made the mistake of paying too much attention to Maradonna, forgetting that there was Buruchaggar(spelling). Thats the mark of an effective team and it’s up to the coach to exploit it to it’s MAX effect. Gor has options in Kagere-Tuiyisenge-Guikan and they are working well. Anybody care to give the goal stats…

  • Ati Kenpoli!!!! , who is that ???, if at all it is like it is claimed that it is a football team, then it would have been wise that Kerr should have fielded a team purely composed of bloggers , I, personally despite over 15years of unfitness would have guaranteed a hattrick .
It is on this note that I am still waiting to see the real Guikan , in a real game , scoring a real hattrick in real time .

  • Michael Odhiambo Ogolo says:

So Guikan can only score against mediocre teams or what is always wrong with him.otherwise congratulations team k’ogalo.

  • ja Thur GI ji says:

You people, those who understand football ball will look at the poise of a striker as he receives a pass and what he does with it, may end in a goal, no goal or pass to another player. This Guikan to does all that a striker should do, that is if anybody bothers to check, remember that goal against Vegetables? Give him time and patience, but at Kogalo we want every touch to be a goal, impossible.

  • Barefoot Bandit says:

Knockout tournaments like this one are notorious for pitting small teams against big ones. Interestingly, a team must overcome one huddle in order to get to the next round. Gor Mahia had to play Kenpoly and get a result that would qualify us for the next round. Guikan has done his part. He gave us three goals. Had he not then Kenpoly would have been motivated to fight for a draw leading to penalties. I want to believe Guikan was not a lone striker. If Kenpoly is a nondescript opposition then why didn’t the other striker also score a hat trick? I am happy for Guikan. Had he not scored the three goals then we would be complaining that a 2-0 win over a lower tier side is unconvincing.

    • Berr-lilloh says:

True that…we should always be thankful for what we have and God will bless us more…we thank God for Guikan..the team n the win.

  • Akira says:

Congratulations Team. Congratulations Guikan For Your Hatrick Against Kenpoly. It Was A Game Like Any Other N You Scored A Hatrick.
If I Were The Gor Ec I Would Not Add Any Player This Transfer Window. More Players Means A Balloonning Wagebill That Would Unnecessarily Stretch Club Resources. We Already Have Quality Players.
As For CECAFA i share @musymo’s thinking that going there n winning it means more money n prestige for the clob. Fatigue N Injuries Are Occopational Hazards That We Can Easily Absorb Considering The Depth Of Our Squad. We Are Not Cowards To Run Away From A Fight.

  • Nyakwar Oganjo Rahiti says:

Congratulations team kubwa. I also salute the bloggers – regardless whether your wonderful pieces enrich the GM Ec. I feel emptiness if I close without reading @Teddy,@Jakoyo,@Jasego,@Ogango Trailer, @BFB, @Akira, every one on this platform. On a different note, this my take on CECAFA. Let Yanga and Rayon sports withdraw. Let Gor win the tournament and then let’s meet after all the three have lost Confederations cup to assess the best team. Just take fringe players( I am not the one saying they are fringe but the TB) wait to see what the newspapers headlines will do to your brand when they write,” THE MIGHTY KOGALO WAS WHIPPED BY LITTLE KNOWN ZANZIBAR TEAM. Companies spend millions to protect their brand not to erode. I care less who dons Gor jersey. I may get concerned if I see onyango, Shakava, Walusimbi, Kahata in the field but I don’t see their replacements on the bench. You remember the discomfort of playing Esperance without Walusimbi, or USMA without Kagere to a point where some believed that if Walusimbi played Esperance would not have scored. Others also allude that if Kagere played Algiers, Gor could have scored. Remember how the Algiers couch was happy because of Kagere’s absence. What could have happened if the two played is not my point. My point is the discomfort that their absence cause. The discomfort arises from the fact that they are not perfectly replaced. The bench lacks their quality and that is what this transfer window should be dealing with. Put it this way. GM could not release platers to Harambee stars because she lacked their replaced not because she lacked players. Finally, Gor has played 32 matches I.e. 2880 minutes or 48 hrs of play time. Shakava could be leading in the number of hrs played but if a player has not done about 10 hrs out of 48, then that player is really fringe. The more you stay on the bench the rusty you become. Such players can loan themselves out for play time before they become fans. Gor has enough fans on the terraces including Ingwe defectors.

Many things has been said about K14. Every player has low moment and we have witness many of such cases before eg Tuisenge, Olunga ( at the time they joint GM) . K14 is a power player just like Guikan. What he requires now is a psychological support in order to exploit his strength. His potential can compared to peter Dawo and Mike Okoth. He is strong and can bully defenders if played behind strikers. Let us not looses him the we lost Jowi.

Guikan is a good player yes but he has a lot to do. It’s good they dismissed Kenpoly fc but alot need to be done ie there is need for 1 stricker preferably a left footer 1 central defender and 1 midfielder

  • Technically I dont know if any of as have noted that the bloggers who are for and against Guikan are completely in agreement about him .
This is how , the ones who are against are saying that to date , they aint
Seen nothing about him to write home about , the ones for him are saying give him time, technically meaning that , Yes-for now he aint nothing like you have intimated but lets give him time , Sometimes we may argue even when we intend the same thing with perspectives being the only unnoticed difference

  • ODHIS muga says:

This Ulinzi coach talks too much about how he will be the first to beat Gor this season. Somebody remind him that he is committing an abomination, no coach has boasted of beating Wuon Timber without ending up with an egg on their face. The repercussions will be unbearable to him. Let him consult coach Kenyatta, omino, muiruri, matano and others for further advice.

Yes EC ! Go tough and clamp down on all ‘passengers’!

    ******
Gor Mahia head coach Dylan Kerr has revealed midfielder Kevin Ade Omondi went absent on the team after he was struck off the list for the SportPesa Super Cup, earlier in June.

The midfielder is on his second stint at Gor Mahia, having played a major role in the team’s title winning campaign in 2013 before leaving for a botched move in South Africa, where he was linked with Moroka Swallows.

    Back in team

Kerr says the decision to leave Ade off his team for the eight – team tournament, which Gor Mahia went on to win, disappointed him and as a result he missed a number of training sessions but has since returned and linked up with his team mates.

“He was unhappy when he wasn’t chosen for the SportPesa Super Cup and missed training for a couple of days. I spoke to him and he is now back in training. I have got the hardest job in Kenyan football and I have to make tough decisions and at times this upsets players,” Kerr told Soka.

    Work hard

Despite the misunderstanding between the two, Kerr is leaving the door open for the midfielder but has called on him to work for his place in the team.

“We have very many fixtures and he definitely will get his chance. He needs to keep working hard and take this chance we gave him with his both hands,” Kerr added.

After leaving Gor Mahia, Ade went on to feature in brief stints for Sofapaka, Nakumatt and Kenya Police before returning.n ‘ passengers ‘…

Of late Ade has lost his form, hence should not force the couch to include him in the first eleven without working hard and proving to the couch his capability. I don’t think Gor has anything to lose without Ade`s service, moreover he should be punished for having refused to attend some of the training sessions. Hii mambo ya i know you so you must be included in the first squad which happens in AFC leopards we don’t want to experience it inGor Mahia.
