Gor Mahia determined to defend narrow lead
Gor Mahia will travel to Miarinivo Madagascar to defend their narrow one goal lead on Sunday against two time Madagascan champions CNaPS. A draw of any kind will see Gor Mahia through to the next phase. A loss by one goal will also see Gor Mahia through if Gor Mahia score at least one goal (away goals rule).
The same scenario happened last year when Gor Mahia took on US Bitam of Gabon. CNaPS too are experiencing a sense of deja vu because last year they lost 0-1 to Mozambican side Liga Muculmana and were forced to a scoreless draw at home. Indeed CNaPS have never gone beyond the preliminary round of the Africa Champions League.
However skipper Jerim Onyango says Gor Mahia will not be going there to defend their lead, but will attack from the onset
“We are not under pressure and I don’t see the win in the first leg as narrow because we already have an advantage. We have been at this stage before and we know what we are expected to do. “We are not going to Madagascar to defend but rather we will be seeking for more goals,” said Jerim to Capital FM.
If Gor Mahia go for goals, they will be hoping that Michael Olunga finds the same scoring form he found against Mathare United where he found the net twice. Scoring at least one goal will mean that CNaPS now have to score three.
For Gor Mahia to defend their lead, they will have to do a better job of containing CNaPS danger men Jeannot Vonimbola and Rija Rakotomandimbyir who both proved dangerous in the first leg. And Frank Nutall is in agreement that Gor Mahia cannot afford to underrate the Islanders again.
“We tended to underrate our opponents in the first leg but we must understand that this is a team that won their home league and we have to show them respect.” said Nuttall to goal.com
And this is where the return of Dirkir Glay and Collins Okoth can be useful especially if the latter can keep his head calm. Okoth needs to be spoken to before the game. Fans will remember how he picked up a red card during the away match against Ferroviario in Mozambique during his first stint at the club. The red card was due to dissent. Okoth claimed there was a language barrier between himself and the referee. The net result was that bad situation became even worse as a disjointed Gor Mahia succumbed to the Mozambicans.
Gor Mahia depart on Saturday a day before the match due to climatic conditions and the low altitude according to Ronald Ngala. The conditions will be atrocious due to recent heavy rains that have pounded the Eastern Coast of Madagascar where the match will be played.

CAF CL: Supersub Blackberry rescues Gor from CNaPS

Substitute George Blackberry Odhiambo netted a 90th minute goal to ensure that Gor Mahia are through to the first round of the 2015 CAF Champions League courtesy of a 3-3 aggregate scoreline against their Sunday 1 March hosts CNaPS at the Municipal Stadium of Toamasina.
This is despite the Kenya’s representatives going down by a narrow 2-3 margin in the thrilling preliminary match. The two away goals and their home win in the first round however helped them book their place in the next round.
CNaPS started on a high and should have taken the lead in the second minute through a penalty but they missed but they remained the better side for the better part of the first half.
The hosts were the first to score through a deflected shot that beat Bonface Oluoch at the near post but Gor Mahia equalized moments later through Ali Abondo.
Stretched lead
CNaPS however restored the lead in the 38th minute after a series of counter attacks before stretching it further at the stroke of halftime through yet another affront on the Gor Mahia defence.
The second half was however an end to end encounter with CNaPS fighting even harder to cement their lead in the match as Gor Mahia gave an equally brilliant output. Olunga’s shot on target was cleared off the goalmouth in the 75th minute.
Gor Mahia dominated the final 15 minutes of the match but goals were hard to come by a midst a capacity stadium and an away environment.
George Blackberry was introduced in the 76th minute for Ronald Omino who started in the match and immediately created a fresh spark in the Gor Mahia attacking.
They however had to wait till the first minute of added time to net the savior and send Gor Mahia through on aggregate. K’Ogalo were 1 – 0 winners in the first leg played two weeks ago and were simply in need of a draw of any kind to set date with Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) side AC Leopards in the 1st round.

Just read from Nairobi News that it’s Peter Kenneth who helped facilitate our trip to Madagascar.
As fans we need to do more for the team, especially financially. Attending the matches and cheering the team is a good thing but the team has no sponsors so we have to fill that void. It is sad when you see fans putting on Gor t-shirts forcing themselves into the stadium or hanging around the entrances waiting to bribe the stewards to go in and watch their ‘favourite’ team then you fill sorry for the players, TB and the EC.
Surely this year we must change the way we do things. We must use the paybill number, membership registration and any other initiative from the EC or the other more-progressive fans like @ODUOR12 and @MWAKIO
