Gor Mahia’s campaign for the 2017 Kenya Premier League title is back on track thanks to an important 2-1 win over Bandari. After dropping two critical points against Tusker last weekend and having lost the league lead, it was imperative that Kogalo get a win in Mbaraki, a place that is notoriously difficult for teams to win at. But Bandari fielding two former Kogalo dangermen: Shaban Kenga, Dan Sserunkuma and Enock Agwanda and with an excellent coach in Paul Nkata, were never going to be pushovers. They have Gor Mahia a difficult time but Kogalo prevailed with goals from Innocent Wafula and Geoffrey Walusimbi

It was Kogalo who dicated terms in the first half. It therefore came as no surprise when Innocent Wafula opened the score in the 10th minute after picking up a pass from Ugandan international, Geoffrey Walusimbi. In recent matches Wafula has not found favor with coach Ze Maria. Whereas Frank Nuttall was always keen to utilize Wafula’s speed down the right flank, Ze Maria has preferred a passing game. Given a rare opportunity, Wafula did not waste it and stamped his name on the scoring sheet for the first time in 2017.

Gor Mahia continued to dictate terms in the first half with Francis Kahata among those coming close. Gor Mahia forced half a dozen corners in the first half with Bandari forcing only one.

Bandari came back into the game in the second half and their efforts paid dividents immediately. In the 50th minute, Musa Mohammed fouled Shaban Kenga in the eighteen yard box and the referee awarded Bandari a penalty, which veteran Abich coolly converted.

Gor Mahia then went hunting for a second goal with Bandari preferring to sit back. The better more positive team was rewarded with a goal in the 66th minute. It was Walusimbi who scored with the assist coming from substitute Oliver Maloba.

Last season, Gor Mahia beat Bandari 2-0 at Mbaraki. But in the return leg in Kisumu, Bandari forced a scoreless draw. The win puts Gor Mahia is sole posssesion of second place behind Posta Rangers who eked out yet another 1-0 win and two points ahead of resurgent Sofapaka who silenced AFC on Wednesday.

  • My first live match to watch this season and here are my comments…

1.As widely predicted glad to see TB deploy 4-2-3-1 and the ruthless 4-5-1 sparingly after 55th minute. We want to see more of this tactical change , the boring 3-5-2 is not effective in all games especially when we are playing away or we are leading in a must win match

    2. Glad to see jausenge , miguna and Karim on the bench. Next lets see walusimbi, musa, shakava and boni on the bench please. They need to give others a chance to prove themselves as we try multiple formations.

    3. Glad to see wafula playing in a different role and most importantly maloba taking a more attacking role. This maloba boy is underrated yet is the future of kogallo.

The team is definitely moving in the right direction.

    • @Jakoyo, that Maloba guy is a truly gifted player and any time he is not on the travelling squad i am always disappointed. Thanks Ze Maria for resurrecting one of my favourite Kogallo players Mr Innocent Wafula.

@Jamriambo, When Musa said we were unlucky when we played Tusker the commends were like , don’t rely on luck. Some guys have won jackpots and are now doing better than the most learned guys. Anyway kudos players and TB

Those who gave Maria Mama 5 matches to prove his worth, sasa ukwali wa mambo ndiyo hiyo. I now seat back, relax and enjoy watching Kogallo. We are not yet there but the prospects are looking great. One game at a time.

In Kogallo I Trust and Believe. For God and my beloved club – Kogallo.

  • Those players who thought they are untouchable have been proved wrong. They were replaced and the team performed even better: 4m guy, former Azam and the one with crosses, let them pull up their socks or forget the first eleven.

Remember when Pamzo was Kogalo coach and he was unceremoniously fired on the spot by Andrew Juma Sule?
Pamzo has improved dramatically since then

Just look at what he is doing at POSTA, Zico failed the task there..anyway kuteleza sio kuanguaka mwana wa nyanam. They were all Gor legends-great ones. Lets hope Zico has gotten it right this time.

I am overjoyed that Hor Mahia won over Bandari. Let’s try and keep the momentum going. Up next is Mathare, a team that’s currently struggling in the lower reaches of the table. Winning this match will help in building the confidence as we are due to face Efusi on 7/7/17. Good luck guys.

  • Olunga opens “chinese yuan” account. When “the Engineer” wanted to join Mighty K’galo straight after high school lack of a “God Father” costed him and we missed his talents for 2 years. His talent later prevailed. Jasego leaked to us that Ian Otieno wanted to join but none would hear his case preferring GKs that cannot offer Boni any challenge. Now isn’t KPL March player of month Brian Otieno of Nzoia not the same player we rejected in the last transfer window sticking instead with Calabar Jnr who for has failed for 2 seasons to make even the match day 18 player squad. Perhaps we’ll sign him when he’s KPL defender of the year. I hear GMFC actually spotted Vincent Oburu first but were “slow” to sign and efusi snapped him. Yes, sacred position or cows must be curtailed and competition encouraged.Go K’galo Go Win Against chokora. Ze Maria break your jinx and maintain a winning streak.

  • someone here talks of sitting back and watching Gor.I ask why can’t Gor negotiate separate. broadcast deal than wait to be lumped with fanless clubs like Posta

  • This media blackout on airing KPL matches is taking too long to solve. Can we negotiate a new sponsorship rights with Azam Tv if need be or even Bamba Sports since without accountability of playback and match review me might slide back to dark days of match fixing where penalties would be awarded for fouls committed in the middle of the pitch. Let us solve this impasse with DStv or Accept and Move on to another sponsor…
