Gor Mahia edge Chemelil

Omondi “Ade” gave Chenelil nightmares

Diminutive Ugandan striker Dan Sserenkuma goal from the spot was all Gor Mahia needed to beat Chemelil Sugar FC in a Kenyan Premier League (KPL) match played at the Nyayo National Stadium on Saturday 28 September.

Willis Ouma should have put Chemelil ahead as early as in the fifth minute of the match but he was judged to be offside while in a good scoring opportunity.

David Owino made a good run from deep in his own half, brought in a wonderful cross but there was no Gor Mahia player insight to tap it in in the sixth minute.

Chemelil won a freekick just outside the box after Donald Mosoti’s handball in the 14th minute. Victor Omondi hard shot was however parried away by the hawk-eyed Gor Mahia custodian Jerim Onyango.

Chemelil wasted another glorious opportunity to level the scores in the 17th minute, this time Jared Obwege being the culprit. He beat the off side trap after an incisive pass from Willis Ouma but hesitated in shooting, giving Jerim ample time to collect the ball.

Innocent Mutiso released a good pass to the impressive Kevin Omondi in the 19th minute but the latter shot wide from close range.

Omondi was at it again in the 28th minute, cleverly chipping the ball to Moses Odhiambo whose resultant hard shot hit the bar with Chemelil custodian Jairus Adira well-beaten.

Second Half

Chemelil brought it Francis Oduor for Jonathan Mwaniki in the 49th minute as they continued their search for an equalizer. Gor won a freekick in the 52nd minute after Sserenkuma was fouled at the edge of the box but Omondi blasted it wide.

Gor Mahia tactician Bobby Williamson brought in former Qatar-based youngster Joseph Wanyonyi for Moses Odhiambo in the 56th minute.

James Omino was yellow carded in the 69th minute after a foul on Kevin Omondi, Gor winning a freekick just outside the box that Kevin Omondi, again, shot wide.

Chemelil brought in John Onami for Jared Obwege in the 76th minute while Kevin Omondi was substituted for Paul Kiongera by Gor few minutes later.

The changes however had no impact in the outcome of the match as it ended 1-0 in favour of Gor Mahia. With the win Gor are still at the helm of the KPL log with 44 points from 24 matches.

After dominating the game the score line should reflect likewise. All those chances we missed should have been put away to send the message to the next opponents. Too much video moves by the strikers instead of putting the chances away.
On the future I think Wanyonyi and Angelo are our future stars

@Dan Original, the important thing is to win whether ugly or clean. Three points in the bag is the most important thing in every game and this is what Gor did for the fans.

In this regard, we return all the glory and honour To our Almighty God. Amen

That’s a crucial win as we “limp” towards the league title.
Kudos 2 Jagoal 4 the vital saves(bt improve ua kicks upfield) & 2 Dan”Flava” 4 making it 2 the top 10 scorers list with ua 5th goal.
B.W has tested virtually all players in GM & my take is he’s probably planning 4 clever recruitment, hence assault @ CECAFA/CAF. 2 him the much sort after league may only b a launch pad. I therefore urge mid & forwards 2 b more clinical in passing/scoring

It was a good sight when Kevo and Kiongera shook hands when the latter came in for the former,it seems the Naivasha team building worked. We are one and keep it up boys.On a positive note lets improve on our dead ball situation around the D area.We had alot of chances yesterday and not even one, troubled the goalkeeper. What do the others think?

@ Chris omollo, I will once again say Kevo is the best attacking midfielder in this country. He needs to perfect his exposure and he will go far………as for dead ball specialist, as a former footballer this skills can never be taught, they come inbuilt and as a country I can’t remember the last time we produced dead ball specialists…….remember the likes of nyangi odembo , wllberforce mulamba e.t.c such players are rare this days but it is an area we have to focus on if we are to go far in Africa.

  • Congratulations to the team for the splendid football that they displayed yesterday against a rugged Chemelil team. Thank you BW for seeing the need to blood in young players in the team. Gathu, Angelo and now Wanyonyi looks to be very descent players and the club must look well after them. All of them are offensive midfielders so BW must do all within his powers to look for young strikers. Our defensive play is still very impressive because the likes of Anguyo, Wekesa and David Otieno cannot command a starting place while Musa Mohammed has to do with playing out of position at fullback 3. I would hate to lose Anguyo to any team in the TPL!!! All in all, the Club should run the rules on John Odhiambo of KCB (fullback 3) and Dennis Nganga of City Stars (fullback 3).

    FORMULA FOR WINNING THE LEAGUE
Why are the FKF and KPL not giving a definite ruling on our abandoned match against SONY!!!! We need to know whether to prepare for a replay or to welcome the 3 points initially awarded to us by FKF. We must not forget to give THANKS and PRAISE to the almighty GOD for our victory against Chemelil yesterday. The championship has taken a very interesting turn as the chasing park have failed to challenge the leadership of Gor Mahia. As of today, the competition for the title looks like it has narrowed down to be between us and Sofapaka. The 6 or so teams (Thika United-36 points to Bandari-33 points)are stuck in the 33-36 points and will do well to forget about the title in 2013 unless Gor Mahia suffers a loss of form of mountainous proportion. The maximum points that the highest placed team in this group can garner is 54 points. This falls short by 6 points of the proverbial 60 points that a team needs to dream of being declared the champions. Sofapaka can accumulate a total of 57 points if they win all their remaining matches, not easily achievable. They still have Karuturi (A) Chemelil (H) Gor Mahia (A) Ulinzi Stars (H) Western Stima (A)Mathare United (A). The mighty Kogalo, in winning all the remaining matches will be able to register a championship high of 65 points. Gor Mahia’s remaining matches: Mathare United (A) Thika United (A) Sofapaka (H) KK Home Boys (H) KCB (A) Ulinzi Stars (A). If we are awarded the abandoned match against SONY as expected, then we need to win only 4 of our remaining 6 matches to be declared Champions regardless of the outcome of other teams’fixtures. The easiest way to win the title is by beating Sofapaka and any other 2 teams. This will push us to 11 points above Sofapaka which is unassailable with 3 matches remaining. In a nutshell, Gor Mahia can be declared the Champions on 23-10-13. They just need to beat Mathare United on 02-10-13, Thika United on 16-10-13 and Sofapaka on this day (23-10-13). I therefore want to appeal to all those vague and fake fans who only want to associate with the Club when we are winning to give us a break. 3 months ago, I told you that we will win the title with 2-3 matches to spare and you never believed me. I remain hopeful that this will still happen.

The team is playing well and can only improve. From my own assessment, Kogallo only need 3 wins to be crowned. I do not see anything stopping us. This title is our, no doubt. Why? Kogallo is not playing pata potea type of football therefore they will not lose easily. They play very purposeful football. The work rate of the team is also very encouraging. When the season started, Kogallo would play very well in the first half then back peddle in the second half. At the moment, the team is even hungrier for goals as the game progress. BW thanks for that. You have really revitalized the team. All the best on Wednesday.

For God and my beloved club – Kogallo

    Le paste,

remember, the chasing park are slaughtering one another, we could even win early. See what city stars did to tusker, Chemelil did to AFC, Sony to Ulinzi.

    Very interesting.

Can you give a picture of how many matches Sofa should draw to loose the cup if Gor were to win two matches only and draw 2 and loose two. ie if gor were to only add 8 points

    Reply
  • Alternatively, Gor Mahia will still win the title if Sofapaka were to lose 1 match before Meeting us. Gor Mahia will have to win only 2 matches while drawing 2 and losing 2 as long as the abandoned match against SONY is awarded to Gor Mahia. This will give Gor Mahia an unassailable points of 55 while Sofapaka would follow closely with 54 points if they win all the remaining matches.

  • Does anyone know the fate of the abandoned SONY match? Latest KPL standing shows Gor with 44pts after 23 matches. Last I heard that the match had been included in the fixtures. Anybody who can clarify.
