Gor Mahia once again shrugged off a congested fixture to beat Nzoia United 2-1. The goals came from Francis Mustafa and Geoffrey Ochieng.
Additional reporting from the Nation
Champions Gor Mahia on Monday beat visiting Nzoia Sugar 2-1 in a league encounter at Moi Stadium in Kisumu to stretch their lead at the top of the SportPesa Premier League.

Hansel Ochieng fired Nzoia ahead from the spot on the 3rd minute, but it was short-lived as Francis Mustapha netted the equaliser three minutes later.

Geoffrey Ochieng netted K’Ogalo’swinning goal five minutes to end of normal time which takes their points tally to 41, five ahead of second-placed Sofapaka.

Gor’s head coach Hassan Oktay admitted the contest was tough, but said his charges should have won by a bigger margin.

“We knew the game was going to be tough and it was, but I think we should not win this way, we should score more goals,” said Oktay.

Nzoia’s Sugar tactician Vincent Sifuna said he was satisfied with the results, noting that his side gave their best.

“The game has been fine and I think the crowd has seen that that we are capable of beating Gor. It just a defensive lapse that cost us,” said coach Sifuna.

Ochieng swept Nzoia into the lead in the third minute from the spot after he was fouled by Wellington Ochieng inside the box. He beat Gor’s goalkeeper Fredrick Odhiambo with a high ball to left side of the goalpost.

But the visitors surrendered the lead just three minutes later as Mustafa netted the equaliser. The Burundian beat goalkeeper Humphrey Kahati with a high drive after a poor clearance by Nzoia’s defenders from Dennis Oliech’s attempt.

Oliech should have given K’Ogalo the lead on the 17th minute, but his rasping left-footed shot inside the box was parried for a fruitless corner-kick by goalkeeper Kahati. The former Kenyan International forward was on the offensive again two minutes later, but the effort was saved by visitors’ custodian.

Nzoia’s Stephen Etyang was involved in a another chance on the other end a few moments later, but he was intercepted rightly by the green shirts inside the box.

Goalkeeper Katasi reacted fast on the 31st minute to gather the ball at the face of Charles Momanyi, who had gone up to head a corner-kick delivery, before Peter Gin wasted Nzoia’s build-up a few yards from the host’s box.

Oktay made a double first-half substitution five minutes to the break, injured Cercidy Okeyo being replaced by Lawrence Juma, and Benard Ondiek was rested for Shafik Batambuze.

The visitors threatened early in the second half when Collins Wakhungu collected a loose ball on the right wing to send a rising strike, which was cleared by a green shirt inside the box, before they were denied a result by Geoffrey Ochieng after 54 minutes from a corner-kick.

Ochieng drew goalkeeper Odhiambo into action six minutes later with a low shot from the left wing as Nzoia looked determined to restore their lead.

Gor’s major attempt in the second half came in the 63rd minute when George “Blackberry” Odhiambo cleverly fed Geoffrey Ochieng, who had sneaked into the box, but the latter failed to beat Katasi from a one-on-one situation.

Looking to stretch their lead, Oktay sought the services of Ugandan forward Erisa Ssesesikambu in the 74th minute for Samuel Onyango, with coach Sifuna responding five minutes later with the introduction of Abraham Kipkogei for Ochieng.

Batambuze was unlucky with his long range attempt two minutes later as it went right into the waiting hands of goalkeeper Katasi, before Oliech attempt dipped over the crossbar.

Geoffrey Ochieng helped K’Ogalo bag maximum points in the 85th minute when he rose high to head low a free-kick delivery past a helpless Katasi.

This is really embarrassing FKL (spranno man Mwendwa) and KPL (Jack Oguda & team at KPL) echelons that wanted Gor Mahia to loss rhythm and to pave the way for Bandari, Sofapaka, Mathare and Tusker to win the league. These team are not good enough to challenge Gor Mahia for any title.

    • @JTGJ, There was a match and I was there. We played a second string side and had a disjointed game. Almost drew the game until a lucky break towards the end. Cercidy and Bernard Ondiek given a central midfield pairing and disappointed thoroughly losing posession at every turn and looking completely lost. Both had to be hauled off before the break though Cersidy got a knock. Geofrey Ochieng has much promise though and needs more game time and a dose of confidence.

@Musymo, what do we do to help Bernard Ondiek? I have stuck with him through thick and thin, but he doesn’t seem to want to push himself. I thought he would seize Mieno’s departure with both hands.

Perhaps he could be encouraged to watch John Okello Zangi videos for motivation and role-modelling.

          • These players need to be supported and given regular game time, you cant bench Cercidy and Ondiek from December and then throw them in together in March and expect a good game from them. Even Muguna coming back from 6 months of no football, you would think he was useless but regular game time has seen him get back to his form

Gor seriously need a holding midfielder ,muguna, Juma, kahata are attacking midfielders ,wendo and okeyo are no 6 with those blunders and totoise pace jasego do something in this posiy

  • I didnt watch this game but I have seen enough in previous games to come to what I believe are informed opinions vis a vis Bernard Ondiek , Cercidy Okeyo , Samuel Onyango and Francis Mustapha .
Bernard Ondiek doesnt possess the intensity , aggresion and gravitas expected of somebody adorning a Gor badge , he is too girlish and thats not gonna change , he is more or less a selfie footballer with no evidentiary ambition .
Cercidy Okeyo on the other hand is a discernible theoritician but a very poor executioner yet he is not lacking in phisique , seems like a hitherto ambitious guy who has since given up on his hitherto lofty dreams hence some frustrations -Professional help required here .
Samuel Onyango is one very irritating footballer who requires a mental nyaunyo to whip his mind back to fully focus on football when he is on the pitch , the output just doesnt match his capacity and again here , somebody needs to find out whats troubling this boy .
As for Francis Mustapha , what I can say about him is already in the public dormain and that is that he is from Burundi and also that he is a very likeable young man .
Geoffrey Ochieng is going to make Shaffique Batambuze start behaving more professionaly mature in the not so distant future once he is fully settled .
Overally the Kogalo spirits that used to mysteriously “climb” ones wearing the Kogalo budge seems to be absent when I watch these boys , the spirits that could climb Zangi Okello to make some unexplainable defence splittiTng passes or climb Nyangi Odembo’s legs when he was about to take a free kick , or possess Abbas Magongo environs so that the ball would obey all his commands is something I hope this boys we have currently carried back from the Gor Mahia Shrine in Homabay and of which I expect to see at Kasarani on Sunday .
My plans for the finals are still on course and the ones who keep on telling me to go pole pole on this should keep off na wakaye kimya na hiyo uoga na kutoamini chayo , We are taking this CafCc thing .

Let’s all rally behind Gor Mahia to the last man, fill Kasarani come Sunday and roar Gor Mahia to victory

  • Congratulations to the Team. Two possible things came out of the game.
    1. That in Gor every player is committed to do their best and ready for action whenever called upon.
    2. That Gor is too good that even if the whole team is rotated they are still unbeatable.
    3. Gor is reaping from the opportunity of playing major teams in Africa thus raising their standard.
    4. It is a wake up call to other Coaches and Clubs in this Country. How can a whole team be rotated and you still can’t beat them. That means they are still playing below par. Actually it is those teams that are deliberately trying to bring the standards down. FKF should either force coaches to work extra hard in improving their standards or bar them from coaching at all. I find this is becoming unacceptable. The local clubs must aspire to play up there like Gor is doing. I now understand why the Northerners will do everything to always feature in continental matches. Sisi kama Gor, we shall remain up there.

@Jakoyo did you mean ‘iota of doubt’?. Aorta is a major blood vessel that channels oxygenated blood from the heart into the body’s arterial system.

All the same it makes interesting reading. Reminds me of the other day we were treated the vomiting on “lapses”.

Perhaps Bernard Ondiek may just come good in future.Gor should consider loaning him to another kpl team for a season to give him more play time and gauge if he can actually make it in the top flight

  • Whoever is to come to Gor from wherever , let it be a modern day defensive midfielder , a football brained Central defender and/or wingbacks who understand that the only basis for overlapping is to deliver passes to targets in the box , that then results in a goal threat , on this Zico is the perfect person to incalculate this msg , but in the same breathe , the wingbacks must always remember that their first core business is defending .
So this Wendo’s and Shakava’s positions needs a relook , Philemon still doesnt play to the level expected of a Gor Mahia wingback , he is more of a makeshift and not a natural in my opinion .
Finally , we should start shopping around for a keeper , Bonny is becoming more and more of our past while Odhonji is definitely not our future .

I hope that that time spent away will count for something when they play Berkane on Sunday.

I wish the team all the best…may God grant us victory!!

Gor Mahia fined over half a million shillings for fracas during KCB match
    22 MINUTES AGO IMRAN OTIENO
Reigning Kenyan Premier League champions Gor Mahia have been slapped with a fine of Ksh 606,000 by the Independent Disciplinary and Complaints Committee (IDCC) for fracas caused in the match against KCB on Sunday 27th January.

With Gor Mahia trailing 1-0 courtesy of a Kennedy Owino goal in the 22nd minute, K’Ogalo fans resorted to hurling objects onto the pitch in the 89th minute with the stewards also being involved in the melee that lasted 15 minutes before the game was allowed to conclude. According to the IDCC the incident caused damage to Machakos County Government ambulances ( vehicles registration numbers KBY 258G and KBY 264G), KCB FC Bus (vehicle registration number KCN 250N), and the Stadium’s inner Perimeter gate.

The IDCC was also irked by the decision of the Chief Executive Officer of Gor Mahia football club electing to send stewards of the club to the hearing.

    IDCC Findings and Conclusions:
That Gor Mahia Football Club having been found guilty for breaching Rules 3.4 (a) of the Rules of Kenyan Football on Sunday 27th January 2019 during the SportPesa Premier League 2018-19 Season Match Number 084 between KCB FC and Gor Mahia FC which was played at Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos, are hereby fined Kenya Shillings Three Hundred Thousand (Kshs. 300,000/=)
That above amount should be paid to Kenya Premier League within Sixty (60) days from the date of this ruling. In the event of default, the said amount shall be recovered by KPL from the Club’s share of the Premier League Sponsorship by SportPesa for the 2018-19 Club’s entitlement.
That besides paying the above fine to Kenyan Premier League, Gor Mahia Football Club is equally ordered to compensate the County Government of Machakos and KCB FC as follows

Pay the County Government of Machakos a sum of Ksh 56,000/= for the damage caused on two ambulances Registration Number KNY 258G and KBY 264G.

Pay the County Government of Machakos a sum of Ksh 50,000/= for the damage caused on the inner perimeter gate of the Kenyatta Stadium.

Compensate KCB FC a sum of Ksh 200,000/= for the damage caused on KCB FC bus Registration number KCN 250N and loss of user of the said bus for the period it was under repair.

That the Payments for both County Government of Machakos and KCB FC to be made within Sixty (60) daysfrom the date of this Judgement.

That in the event of default, the said amount shall be recovered by KPL from the
Club’s share of the Premier League Sponsorship by SportPesa for the 2018-19 Club’s entitlement and paid directly to both the County Government of Machakos and KCB FC.

That the Club is hereby warned that severe punishment will be meted out on it if its fans, Members and/or supporters will be found guilty of similar charge in future matches and to be precise, the Tribunal will henceforth consider docking Six (6) League points if similar acts of hooliganism is repeated by member/supporters and/or fans of Gor Mahia Football Club.

    • The above Independent Disciplinary and Complaints Committee (IDCC) decisions have always been biased against Gor Mahia and the IDCC committee has always being fixated on punishing Gor Mahia with heavy penalties whilst AFC Leopards have always been given leaner punishment.

The last line where IDCC is threatening Gor Mahia to dock 6 points is laughable whilst AFC with even serious acts of hooliganisms have always been going scot-free with lesser charges. This is double standard which is only applicable to Gor Mahia. Shame of the IDCC committee.

My attention was drawn to that line about docking of 6 points. Curious and far fetched as it obviously sounds, I think these idle IDACC people are on a desperate fishing expedition. They are looking for fertile excuses which they can use to derail our quest for a fourth league title on the trot.

Somebody should remind us who are the members of IDACC. I won’t be surprised if among them are GMT Otieno and Prof Moni Wekesa……..This IDACC should be renamed Appeals Committee of Retired Idle Got Mahia Haters. HACRI-GM.

  • Just imagine this again @Jamigori , its worthwhile to note that the ones who caused this fine were neither the EC , TB or The Players but rather the fans .
Now it is worth noting that this fine will not be paid by the fans who caused it but by the EC who will be forced to dip into the club’s miserable coffers to pay .
Thirdly it is worth noting that when there
will be a slight delay in player remunerations due to pressure in resources caused by these misbehaviours , the same fans , most of whom dont pay to enter the stadium , will be up in arms against the EC , demanding to be told why the payments are delayed
    .
Sometimes in 2013 , when club elections were around the corner , I got to confirm that some of the stupidities we see at the stadium are not spontaneous but rather are sponsored premeditated acts to sabotage the club in the mistaken belief that it is the EC that is hurting and it is on this same note that I found it weired and disappointed that some people seemed to be applauding the stupid acts of the club stewards against the sharks TB .
We may blame the EC at times but we have the most easily excitable and foolish fanbase , not all if I may add but enough to cause as the bad name and its just as well that this time they didnt export their nonsense to businesses in kisumu because were they to attempt , I can promise that a good number would be Resting in Pieces because I would prefer if such people are dead and buried .

  • Before we jump to who is in IDCC and why we feel they are against us , we need to remind ourselves that the one who are against as even more than IDCC are “OUR FAKE FANS” disguised as Gor fans .
Its also worth noting that these so called Fans are not children and are people who have seen the consequences of their actions before , are aware about what damage their actions will again have on Gor Mahia but still needlessly go ahead to do the same and for some strange reason after this we will witness the same most probably at kasarani on Sunday .
A few days ago , it was our stewards attacking the sharks TB for whatever reason.
Unfortunately it is the EC that we constantly attack that will have to pay for our misbehaviours , moneys that could have probably remedied the perenial salary delays .

The IDCC idlers are very envious of Gor’s good performance and so they want to use all dirty biased tricks to derail us.What have they done to that useless second referee who was clearly unfair to Gor during the KCB match? Sometimes passionate fans are provoked to react to poor officiating by some unqualified refs. That notwithstanding, some hooligans should be dealt with severely for causing meyhem during Kogallo matches. Anyway, only big teams like Man city, PSG, Barcelona Liverpool and Gormahia are fined and not unknown small ones with less than ten fans like Kariobangi sharks, sofapaka or mathare.Proud to be a Gormahia fan!!!!
