Gor Mahia edge SoNy Sugar 1-0

Blackberry provided the assist

Gor Mahia earned a hard fought 1-0 win over SoNy Sugar much to the relief of fans. The match seemed destined for a scoreless draw until Jacque Tuyisenge struck in the 86th minute.

It was another opportunity for Gor Mahia’s dependable striker Jacques Tuyisenge to encrypt his name on the score-sheet when his side faced off with Sony Sugar on Saturday 23 April and the Rwandese never disappointed by a thunderbolt past Sony’s keeper on the 86th minute to hand K’Ogalo all the points.

Sony Sugar were in search of their second victory of the season and Salim Babu had showed the intent  by fielding a relatively stronger squad which managed to hold the defending champions Gor Mahia in the entire first half.

Notably, Ronald Omino, Karim Nizigiyimana , Godfrey Walusimbi and Tuyisenge were instrumental for K’Ogalo in the first 45 minutes with a Nizigiyimana-Tuyisenge link which occasionally motivated fans before the maximum points were recorded.

Ze Maria, who evidently was in dire need of a victory after experiencing winning drought  in the last two matches, read the game and decided to bring in Eric Ouma, Francis Kahata and Jacob Keli in the second half in a move which finally paid off.

It started with a Tuyisenge free-kick on the 49th minute through his off-the mark header on the 62nd minute to the 86tm minute glory when George Odhiambo picked out Tuyisenge inside the box and the latter put it right to the net. However before that,Sony Sugar’s Justine Monda had come closer with a free-kick which in turn acted as a motivator for K’Ogalo.

The win makes it third for the Brazilian coach Ferreira Marcelo and the forth for Tuyisenge whose goal tally has now risen to four.

  • Very boring game.Sony sat back and waited for a draw.started killing
time even before they scored.gor need to work on players reflexes.
Their reaction is too slow.reshuffling the rear back was a good
move by the coach.players decision making on and off the ball
    is very slow and erratic.

  • Why did Omino play 90 minutes? Eric Ochieng-Some bloggers have demanded that he be played. They got their wish today. The coach seems to prefer Luo players………Kik unega. It just makes me feel someone may be ‘helping’ the coach with team selection. I hope I am wrong!!!

    • @Sylvaonyi, I didnt mean the comment badly at all. Was just making an observation. The coach’s fielding is very bizzare and I did not imply that the Luo players are not good enough. My only observation was that some of them are played and dont give their absolute best but he sticks with them. My comment was not tribal at all and if you interpreted it that way, my sincerest apologies. An be an Anyuola but we have all seen where the Bukusu vs Maragoli vs The Rest of the World mindset takes our noisy neighbours every season. With the heights we have reached, I would’nt want my beloved to go back to the days when the line upnwas made in some seedy bar in Huruma

@joods…I agree with you…the game was boring and very slow.We also played against a team that has zero ambition.
They started wasting time from the 1st minute…it’s no wonder they are at the bottom of the log with Sofa..very annoying.
As for us we also need to improve. Players like Omino and Ochieng were given their chance but didn’t take it.
    Very disappointing! !

  • I have to credit the team for the last minute win. As usual, our Shemejis could not allow a penalty to be taken by Ulinzi so the match was called off at Mumias Complex. Am waiting to gauge the extent of criticism that pundits will echo about that, in comparison to what they do when Gor finds itself in Ingwe’s shoes.
Kudos to Ze Maria for rotating this squad and trying to field new faces. However, time allowed for lackadaisical performance has run out so we need to win matches. We have to chase the table-toppers, a mean feat given our crop of players. Work on their speed, timely decision making and how to unpack ‘Chelsea buses’.
The same approach has been deployed in our last four matches so there is higher probability that in our next matches, our opponents will come, pack their bus and counter in the last minute for a goal or a draw. Very shameful indeed but Gor has to win, nothing less than that.

  • @Musymo you think managing a team is balancing tribes.Try and Google teams in Spain that have a bias in recruiting

  • I liked the changes today;especially the back.Shakava has a lot of ‘Yuora nena’ clearance.I’ve never been a fan of Musa but I admit he has improved tremendously. The philosophy is shaping up but I feel in June we have to axe one or two foreigners for world class strikers.

  • Am happy Ze is working with players whom I also felt will learn easily;Marcelo Ouma,Karim,Kahata etc.Where was Innocent Wafula? He is one of my best players and would be of great help in order to free Tuyisenge of tight marking.

  • Gor played sulky football. Without Tuyisenge that game wojld have been a draw. I am supprised with this Sony coach. This is a game he would have probably won given that his players looked more stable with the ball. Its very gud he lost. This local coaches really have nothin to offer football. Gor need speed in their game. I was also supprised by sloppy passing by Gor players. This team cannot go far in Africa with such attitude. You get the impression that since now kuna mshahara constant, whats the hurry? For Tuyisenge his jedi goal instincts are above normal.

Musymo you are a Person, your comments are always bizarre, what’s that you’re posting up there? My advice, please let’s atop criticising players direct by names as we are fond of doing here, it’s very demoralizing.

There is nothing wrong with criticism as long as it’s constructive.
If one is not performing to expectation he must be told so that he improves.if we keep quiet he will think he is doing the right thing and that will end up hurting the team.
As I always say…let us praise and criticize in equal measure…absolutely nothing wrong with that! !

Speed…Transition…More Speed is what Gor requires given we all know our striking deficiencies that can only be cured by world class signings in June.On a positive note though Bernard Odhiambo played very well in Central defence and should keep on getting playtime to cement his place in the starting XI.Musymo pliz,we have enough tribal sentiments going on in Kenyan Politics so try dissociate the same from our beloved Kogalo. All the players are simply Gor Players and preference to start is purely on the coaches discretion based on performance in training and suitability of one’s technical capabilities to the team tactical formation period.Thw tribe of ant player is not a consideration so don’t write such things that you well know if our petty shemeji’s and haters read can start useless blogs on Gor’s “Non-Existent Tribalism”…

    • we need to understand that Nutall used to play with speedy wingers and he preferred long passes and crosses and that’s why our games last season used to have momentum. For Ze maria he prefers short passes that translates to slow momentum and transition while attacking hence making some fans to feel a game to boring too watch. But on a lighter note l was impressed by our left back Ouma for his timed runs same to Bernard for the performance displayed yesterday. My only question is why buy experienced and very able defenders i.e Luke and Saleh and then bench them for all these games or someone somewhere is afraid that ” his” position will be taken. Omera give Saleh even one game so that we can gauge his performance . Saleh anatosha acheni ubaguzi na mapendeleo asewacho ayueyo thoo!
