Gor Mahia edge Thika United

Gor Mahia kept the pace with the leading pack in the Kenya premier league by beating hard fighting Thika United 1-0 on Sunday at the Nairobi City stadium in front of a capacity crowd. Thika were playing under a new coach, John Kamau, after the long serving Abdallah Juma was fired.

Gor Mahia, sporting their new Tuzo jerseys, dominated possession and attacked the Thika goal relentlessly. Wycliffe Ochomo and Demonde Selenga were most active. But poor finishing let Kogalo down. At half time the score was 0-0.

Gor Mahia continued to mount attacks in the second half. When Wycliffe Ochomo was injured, veteran Moses Odhiambo came in. Hajji Mwachoki came in for Dan Makori. Gor Mahia’s attacks were finally rewarded in the 80th minute. Former Kogalo player, Peter Opiyo fouled Kevin Ochieng near the penalty box. Moses Odhiambo scored with a sublime free kick home to give Gor Mahia 3 precious points. Kevin Ochieng was red carded in the 85th minute for time wasting.

Gor Mahia are now in 5th position with 26 points from 14 games. Rangers maintained their lead by destroying Congo United 4-0 that gives them 30 points.

  • Yesterday we played a much improved game and KPL’s postponement of Gor games could be a blessing in disguise. The new signings are gelling and it’s only a matter of time before Kogalo thumps one of their KPL opponents 4-nil. Ochomo, Selenge, Moses Otieno Odhiambo (Jersey 30), Kevin Ochieng have all added much need punch and purpose to a Kogalo side aiming to emulate their 2nd half performance of last season. I see nobody stopping us. I can smell the title.

We need to be very aggressive upfront so that we do not waste numerous chances like we did yesterday.Let us be patient with Demonde as he seeks to gel with the rest of the team.Otherwise it was a good start to the second leg after the long break.By the way, what did Kevin Ochieng do to warrant the red card?I was in Russia stand so I could not see anything that would warrant such a harsh punishment.

Additionally, the office needs to address the issue of the jersey. The price seems so exorbitant especially to the many gor mahia fans who feel someone is out to unfairly exploit their love for the team for personal enrichment .I was at the stadium jana and many fans shared the same opinion that the price needs a seroius and fair scrutiny if the club management wishes to see Gor Mahia faithfuls adorn the jersey.

Zico should make these guys spend 3 hours a day working on their finishing. Kwani how come other teams are routinely scoring 4 goals and Kogalo only wins 1-0, 0-0, 1-0 ………..ghitu ghani hii

Kogalo have opened up a new battlefront with Thika United who they share one sponsor under different brands. My warmest congratulations to the boys for their superb performance! Like last season, kogalo have started the this year’s title chase with a bang. And therefore Mathare United have every reason to worry.

The new Kogalo outfit is arquably the best at the moment. The new signings trio of selenge, hajji and the other boy( i cant remember his name) have brought good omens to the team. They have gelled very fast & are have vowed to win the title for Gor. Yesterday’s match at city stadium was to me the best this season.

Let us keep the faith. Let us keep the tempo & let us remain blind loyalists for Gor.

That was one of our best games I must acknowledge. We dominated right from the word go till end. Thanx for the much improved mid field, central strike and defence as usual. Keep it up and I know our good God will grant us both the 2011 KPL and FKL titles.Big up fans for the extra ordinary job well done.
