Gor Mahia edge Tusker

Courtesy of michezoafrika.com

Gor Mahia are back on top of the Premier League table after a 1-0 win over defending champions Tusker FC in an entertaining match played at City Stadium on Sunday afternoon and  graced by among others Prime Minister Raila Odinga and boxer Congestina Achieng.

Tusker won the first corner that was easily cleared by Gor defense. Then it was Gor Mahia’s turn when Anthony Akumu’s  pass to Moses Odhiambo was intercepted for a corner that Sserunkuma had a poor touch of.

Chris Wekesa was next on the firing line. His left foot shot forced Boniface Oluoch to a fine fingertip save.

In the 8th minute Tusker won their second corner. Joseph Emeka’s well-placed header went straight to keeper Jerim Onyango’s gloves.

In the 12th minute, Ugandan Dan Sserunkuma brought ‘Tok Komwanda’ alive with a strong shot forcing keeper Boniface Oluoch  into a fumble that would gift  Gor Mahia the lead.

Keeper Jerim Onyango then twice came to Gor Mahia rescue.First Patrick Kagogo aimed with a long cross that he punched then Ken Wendo followed up with a ferocious shot that he also saved.

Both coaches then made a substitution. Tusker’s Joseph Emeka was pulled off for Joshua Oyoo while Gor brought in David Owino  for Donald Mosoti.

Six minutes to the break, Dan Sserunkuma latched on to a pass from Moses Odhiambo before unleashing a stinging shot that Boniface Oluoch saved.

Tusker’s Patrick Kagogo made way for Joseph Mbugi immediately after the restart before Tusker went into attack mode. Ivan Anguyo’s back pass header caused a scare at Gor Mahia backline but Jerim Onyango intercepted before the marauding Ken Wendo could pounce.

Ali Abondo cross in the 52nd minute was spilt by Boniface Oluoch for a corner that went begging.

Robert Matano then decided to charge up his arsenal with David Nyanzi coming on for the unusually quiet Dennis Mukaisi.

Anguyo’s 62nd minute shot from a loose ball gave Boniface Oluoch another chance to prove why he is an international keeper.

In the 64th minute,a foul on an advancing Joshua Oyoo by David Owino won Tusker a free kick at the edge of the box but David “Cheche” Ochieng header went over the bar.

A minute later, action was on the opposite end. Edwin Lavatsa would had doubled the lead but Oluoch was alert to save the deflected shot.

Coach Zdravko Logarusic then brought in Kevin Omondi for Joseph Njuguna.

Ken Wendo was presented with a good opportunity in the 72nd minute but he could not keep his shot low. A one on one situation then ensued on the other end. Lavatsa picked a cross from Serunkuma but defender Shikokoti managed to close him down and ensure his shot never troubled Oluoch.

Logarusic’s last dice was  Moses Otieno who came on for Moses Odhiambo.Four minutes to the end ,Jerim Onyango pulled a fantastic save to deny Peter Opiyo who had chiseled a great shot. Any spill would have been an early Christmas gift for David Nyanzi who lurked inside the box.

The result means Gor Mahia who now have 55 points just need to win their two remaining matches to be crowned champions. Tusker and AFC Leopards are tied on 54 points.

Tuskers next match is a trip to Western Stima then a final match against City Stars.Gor Mahia  will visit Muhoroni before winding up their campaign at City Stadium against  Thika United.

Good win and good cash. Why have jokers like abondo on the pitch?we need to play like champions and not as cowards who get one lucky goal and defend in the remaining minutes of a match.

It’s so sweet, to be on top. Who ever thought this was possible this season? At some point we were facing relegation, now we have the bird in the cage and we are not letting it go. Congrats boys, you are my heroes forever. I have no more words, just thanks to the almighty. This is a come back that must be serialized. One game at a time, we are nearly there.

@Mcosweto your posting is misplaced and stop this hatred on Abondo. If you can’t thank God for the victory then you can keep your posting to yourself.
@Dan, it is not about God seems to be answering our prayers but certainly He is answering all our prayers.

We will play like champions the day we will be champions. What matters is the win and the 3 points. Yesterday’s was efficient football not entertaining football. At a time like now it is efficiency that counts.
Tusker had a very superior midfield and the only way of surviving was to play the way we played after getting the goal.
It should not be lost on us where we have come from and remember we have come from that far with only 16 regular players thanks to the weak recruitments at the start and mid-season. How many mid-season signings do we have in our starting 11?

Let us always be grateful for the little we have, win the league and reorganise for the next season. Just imagine if we can have Pinches and Kennedy Oduor of Karuturi in our midfield! I can only say so far so good.
The Log is not about entertaining and attractive football. What he wants is the title. On the other hand Sir Bobby is about the attractive come baby come brand. Is that what we want now? Play beautiful but fail to score or score but lose? The time for that is coming. For now I urge for patience and prayers from all fans.

To the boys please avoid those silly yellow cards like plague. Otherwise Jerry Jagoal played like a true captain. Congratulations.

@2 Mcosweto, why that foul language? I think everybody played well. Please do not bring that here we have two games to go. And its a game at a time.Next Muhoroni, where? I guess they will go after money and bring it to Nakuru or better city stadium. This time they will be done and early.Go for it boys, Logarusic and Bobby.

Guys, the victory was sweet and reassuaring that the tittle is ours.one game at atime and winning the next game is the driving slogan. Compared with the Karaturi’s yesterdays made a big differnce with first half more entertaining. All our boys played well but Jagoal was best. Macoseto @2 please dont bore me up with your negative critic keep it to yourslf. I wish to thank every effort from all quarters who contribute positively in either way to move Gor forward.

I have decided to capture this below in capital letters for us to deeply think on our team:
    ———————————————————-
FROM KPL WEBSITE, A TOTAL OF 10,295 FANS BOUGHT TICKETS THAT RAISED KSHS.2.7 MILLION. I THINK WE NEED TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF OUR HUGE GOLDMINE, WHICH IS OUR BIG FAN BASE THAT CAN BE USED TO BOOST REVENUE COLLECTIONS FROM GATE COLLECTIONS AND SALE OF CLUB MERCHANDISES (FOR EXAMPLE GOR MAHIA BRANDED REPLICA JERSEYS BOTH GREEN, WHITE OR BLUE, SCARVES, CAPS, UMBRELLAS, PENS, PORCHES, PENCIL, MUGS, CARPET, WHEEL COVERS, MOBILE PHONE COVERS, CALENDARS, TOWELS ETC).

GOR MAHIA IS SITTING IN A HUGE GOLDMINE (FAN-BASE) THAT HAS NEVER BEEN EXPLORED AND WE NEED THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE (EC) TO THINK ON HOW THESE AVENUES CAN BE EXPLORED FOR THE SUCCESS OF THE CLUB.

IT APPEARS THAT OUR EC IS UNABLE TO OPEN THEIR EYES AND SEE THIS HUGE GOLDMINE. THE EC HAVE CLOSED THEIR EYES AND BLOCKED THEIR EARS ON THIS MATTER.

DEAR FELLOW BLOGGERS AND EC, ARE WE HAPPY TO SEE THIRD PARTIES EMERGING TO SELL OUR CLUB REPLICA JERSEYS, SCARVES, CAPS, UMBRELLAS AND OTHER CLUB PARAPHERNALIA AT THE EXPENSE OF THE CLUB? THESE THIRD PARTIES SHOULD BE CLAMPED DOWN AND ARRESTED FOR HAVING BEEN TRADING ILLEGALLY ON OUR CLUB MERCHANDISES WITHOUT EXPRESSED AUTHORITY. THEIR WARES SHOULD BE CONFISCATED AND ARRESTS BE MADE TO STOP THIS ART OF ROBBING GOR MAHIA AND USING OUR LOGO AND COLOURS TO BENEFIT ILLEGALLY.

ARE WE GOING TO KEEP ON COMPLAINING ABOUT LACK OF PLAYERS’ SALARIES/ALLOWANCES WHILE WE HAVE SUCH HUGE UNEXPLORED GOLDMINE OF FAN BASE THAT CAN BE CALLED UPON TO HELP THE CLUB?

CAN OUR FANS WITH GOOD IDEAS EMERGE NOW TO OFFER THEIR PROFESSIONAL SERVICES TO HELP THE CLUB GET OUT AND START MAKING MONEY FOR THE CLUB?

CAN WE BUY LAND AND BUILD A STADIUM?
WE NEED TO HAVE OUR OWN STADIUM AND WE CAN ONLY DO THIS BY TURNING GOR MAHIA INTO A BUSINESS ENTERPRISE AND VERY SOON THE CLUB WILL BE ABLE TO RECRUIT THE VERY BEST PLAYERS, TECHNICAL TEAM AND BRING FOREIGN TEAMS TO KENYA TO PLAY AGAINST THE RELOADED GOR MAHIA.

    PROPOSAL:
IF THE EC IS UNABLE TO IMPLEMENT THIS SIMPLE MANDATE, WHY CAN’T THEY EVEN CONSIDER ENGAGING THE SERVICES OF PROFESSIONAL CONSULTANTS THAT CAN COME ON BOARD IN HELPING THE CLUB TO EXPLORE ALL AVENUES OF FUND RAISING ACTIVITIES?

    CONCLUSION
FELLOW BLOGGERS, FROM MY HONEST OBSERVATION I THINK WELLS FARGO DID A GOOD JOB AND SHOULD BE CONSIDERED FOR OUR FUTURE MATCHES. THERE ARE LOTS OF ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT IF ONLY THE OFFICIALS CAN BE HONEST WITH THE CLUB.

  • ONE MATCH AT A TIME, the match was so electrifying and both teams played under intense pressure.we needed to score and kill the game while at the same time defend wisely.Tusker had to score then “pack the pass” (because a would was all they needed)while at the same time avoid the second goal.all in all it was a well deserved win.

Guys let us be honest and face the reality, come next year, we may find ourselves playing the mighty teams in Africa. Going by our standards, What do you think the score line will be if we play mazembe at lubumbashi? Tusker who outplayed us yesterday couldn’t even go past that Zanzibari team whose name i cant even remembe in the CECAFA. Wake up guys and see the fact in this. We are not playing any good football, we still struggle with all the fans against the likes of Tusker and Borabu chiefs yet we want to play in the champions league. Wait till that day we will be hammered 6 goals to nill in cairo, lubumbashi, kumasi or in abidjan, that’s when we will realize how poor we are.
Don’t be drunk with victories, see the sense and need to play good football before it is too late and we start all over again.
Love me or hate me, the truth is all I stand for.

I have to admit, i was once a sceptic who never understood the subtleties of football thus never saw the need for Ali Abondo. This was till an ex-player explained to me the tough role assigned to him. Since then I have come to appreciate Ali. @McOsweto take your time and go underneath the surface and you will be amazed atthe amount of responsibility placed on Ali. Hint:it’s why he is rarely substituted when we are up against rough and physical teams like Tusker, Ulinzi etc.

Mwakio u r spot on as always. And I also said this so many times….by the way I did this proposal in 2010 and gave it to Rachier, he has a hard copy. Gor has a gold mine in the fan base, even without sponsors we can hold our own and pay great salaries, thereby attracting quality talent. The club has since changed and we need a mindset change within the EC. I doubt we have the pedigree in the current EC team, other than the Chairman and may be a few others. Most of these guys came in to make money but time is running out for them. Gor is going to win the league and next year we will be a big thing, within the country and regionally. We must take advantage of all the things Mwakio has suggested above. We must also brave ourselves for some good corporate sponsorship and here we need great negotiations skills. Finally, I said if here when the Ticket Master guy tried to appeal to our emotions by claiming innocence and honesty. While he must have been acting at the behest of some insider, these guys have never given us the true gate collections. Lets stick with professionals, yesterday’s gate collection was a true reflection of the attendance. Let’s elect carefully in the next elections, we need professionals who can grow with the club

Mcosweto its not what you say that vindicates you but where and at what time or may be the way!Remember we need to grow and its these kind of feelings that brought GM to nought. Its these playing professional in what we are not that left us with pure rejects in the name of stars, the rest is a bizarre story you will quickly wish to forget! Let professionals do their part and be judged with performance. Kindly leave Abondo and all other players alone and keep to your role as a fan. Remeber we are not playing against Africa now and we will be good to do so next year, if anything calling players names will not prepare us for Africa..lets encourage them Period.

DO UNTO OTHERS WHAT YOU WOULD THEM DO UNTO YOU! THUS SAYS THE LORD. Guys who amongst us was not encouraged and did better? So is Abondo and the rest of players?

Pod Antie, the piece a bove is wonderful..that you produced and handed in a blue print to the Chairman is just very good. Lets hope these ideas together with Bro Mwakio’s shall be granted a serious ear and implemented for the good of GM.

I keep hoping that at GM operations shall be professionalised and will be followed with visible huge development in property and fabulous perfomance from the playing unit.

The game was well planned and implemented. i am proud to be associated with GM.

Remember as always from my desk..GM IS MORE SURE OF CLINCHING THE TPL TROPHY THAN THE TOP 8 CUP ALREADY IN THE CABINET.

DO NOT BE ANXIOUS ABOUT ANYTHING, BUT WITH PRAYER AND SUPLLICATIONS MAKE YOUR REQUESTS KNOWN TO GOD ALMIGHTY.

Rem coach trust him and he has been playing for almost every match. let us always have word of encourgament and always help players to improve not to demorolize them. Its clear Tuzo is not doing anything and players may win the tithle wiothout bonus. if 10000 suporters came and lets say each contributes 1000/= that will be 10m. enough to gihve players as bonus of 300k per player. please guys we have to let them win by comming with ideas on how to reward them. Please EC see this and and lets see how to implement it. call me on 0788880000 to chart on how to implement this.

NOTE:Those who are not club supporters should not critise the players. The coach has over 20 players and he has the reason why he pick certain players for certain matches.Ali has done a great job to the club and he need a pat.CONGRATS GUYS KEEP IT UP.

McOsweto has been saying Lavatsa is Gor’s saviour all along.Yesterday was ur accurate answer. The boy needs a lot of polishing and is not ripe for 90 mins.He looses concentration after a few mins in the pitch. His time is in the future.Gor deserved a clear 3-0 win if not for wasted chances.I agree with McOsweto that defending 1 goal and wasting time is a recipy for heartbreaks.Loga said he will engage new players since he knows where the weaknesses are.

Forget about Carol Radull predictions, the football gods of Jaro soja or the spirits of Jodhiwa usually invoked by Okoth Jabilo. And now comrade Mwakio is always saying something to the effect adabra kabra to us . whatever that means, he is the only one to answer.

Congratulations boys for the win. My hat off to Danny, the goal scorer.

What comrade Mwakio. Is suggesting is not new on this blog and the record stand for itself. It seem their this a missing link between the supporters of this great club and their officials. The club constitution in itself is silent on how to engage the administrators save for the new official website which provides for a contact address.

Unless the club is ready and willing to tackle official corruption at all it’s ranks, what comrade Mwakio is suggesting becomes a pipedream.

This club is endowed with great brains. Men and women who can take this great club into greater heights of development. Let us embrace the spirit of volunteerism. I am always proud to be associated with Gor Mahia.

  • AS I watched that Game, my eyes were opened to the wasted opportunities that we have our hands. That Stadium was full to the brim. In fact some body who was nn the main stand said that they thought it was going to cave in. That not with standing, was it fare for the respect of the game, that the mammoth had to watch it while standing? what if it had started raining? I think that City Stadium should be modernized to the current trend. Why should it be allowed to be in the state it is in and yet it is historic? What is the big plan for the Stadium? Of course this is not specifically directed to GOR’s Executives. I am just concerned that some body is sleeping on the job
