Gor Mahia face uphill battle to raise funds
Once again Gor Mahia faces an uphill task as they try to raise enough funds to travel to Congo for the return leg against AC Leopards.
According to goal.com, The team needs more than Sh5.2million to cover air fare and accommodation costs while in Congo, Brazzaville. A top club official admitted the struggles and said they are working round the clock to ensure they are able to honor the fixture.
“It is a very expensive venture. The air tickets alone will cost us Sh2.6million. We have been given a bill of Sh18, 000 per night each for accommodation. We are working hard to ensure the team travels and performs well,” the official told goal.com
When Gor Mahia needed to travel to Madagascar to play CNaPs, it was former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth who came to their rescue.
Dirkir Glay to soon play for Gor Mahia
Dirkir Glay has been conspicuosly missing from Gor Mahia league matches of late due to the fact that his work permit has not been processed.
According to club official Ronald Ngala, his paperwork has already been submitted and the club is awaiting a response from the ministry of labor.
“We have already received communication from the authorities confirming receipt of our documents and soon we’ll get Glay cleared for domestic competition.” said Ngala to the Standard.
One is left to wonder why the club has not had enough foresight to apply for his work permit ahead of time, given that they signed him two months ago.Glay’s inclusion in the defence will help shore up what has proven to be a less than solid department.
It doesn’t make sense to spend 5 million knowing very well you are going to loose. Not good economics

Former Got Mahia reject’s club ( Logarusic,Salim, Timonah,Kasaya etc) aka AFC Leopards make even less sense by hiring one expensive expatriate coach and paying him in advance, yet they have not paid players their 3 months’ salary.

The season 2015 kicked off 3 weeks ago. Here is a brief look at how well the top teams
and contenders for the title are likely to perform when the League ends in November 2015.
NB: A title winning team must have in its rank a striker capable of hitting 15-20 goals a season and a mean defence that concedes less.
AFC Leopards:
The team has gone through its usual ritualistic wranglings that has left many of an ardent EFUSI
Leopards fan confused. Why they cannot get it right both on and off the field is still a mystery to many. The oldest club in Kenya has maintained almost the same team as last year with the exception of a few expensive departures and a glut of new signings whose qualities remain unmitigated. Notable departures include Matasi, Mieno, Masika, Okwemba, Kadenge, Musalia and Situma. The qualities of most of the incoming players i.e. Ngama, Ndugwa, Dodi, Dialo, Ndaaka, Chris Kariuku and Mata can be classified as UNKNOWN at this level. Martin Kiiza was a perennial bench warmer at Tusker last season. The team looks imbalanced as the midfield and defence are crying out for more bodies and experience. A midfield of Imbalambala, Wanyonyi, Mudde, Seda, Duncan Otieno, and Mangoli does not strike fear into many an opponent’s heart. They have done well to hang onto Mangoli and Kelli, hoping that they have cleared their heads and are ready to mix it with the best in Kenya. The defence and the midfield has been listed as having only 8 players each while there are 9 strikers in the team. Even the European Champions (Real Madrid) has in its playing unit not more than 5 strikers!! The sheer number of the registered strikers speaks volumes about their quality – They are trying to make up for the missing quality with quantity. The blatant neglect of the midfield and the defence summarizes the gun-ho manner in which Chingwe Leopards carried out their recruitment. AFC Leopards needed to have gone for a strong defensive unit complimented by a very good midfield if they are to succeed this year. Musa Mudde as an
anchor man is past it and the sooner AFC Leopards replaces him with a younger, more dynamic
midfielder, the better. The returning Anthony Kimani will provide competition at the back. Players to watch: Jackson Sale, Imbalambala, Mangoli and Kelli. The team will struggle if the strikers do not find their scoring boots early. Kelli has to start scoring goals or he will be termed as a one hit –wonder. It is almost a foregone conclusion that Logarusic, sooner than later will declare a half the team as full of rotten potatoes starting with the strikers. CONCLUSION: Every title winning team usually has a 15-20 goals a season striker. Unless Efusi finds one in their rank, they will not compete for the title once again. Verdict: Efusi Leopards will do well to reach the top four, otherwise I can see them finishing 5th.
Gor Mahia:
With a playing unit of 27 players, Gor Mahia has the most well balanced team in the 2015 Kenya Premier League . Among the 27 payers in the defending Champions camp are 14 new recruits. Therefore, this team can be termed as both old and new. In Coach Frank Nutall, Gor Mahia has a master tactician and their coming together seems like a match made in heaven. Gor Mahia did a specification driven recruitment and this should improve the overall quality of the team. This kind of recruitment had never been done in a long time here at Gor Mahia. Coach F. Nutall realized that our number one goalkeeper, Jeremy F. Onyango needed competition to remain at the top of his game. He signed the ever reliable, cool, calm and collected Boniface Oluoch to challenge Jerry for the right to stand between our post. He has already won over the fans by his performances and Jerry will have to improve a lot if he is to regain his position as the indisputable no.1 at Kogalo. The
need for natural full backs cannot be over elaborated. The coach needed new natural full backs so as to introduce his new formation of moving Walusimbi further forward. This has allowed the team to benefit from his speed and pinpoint crosses into the opponent’s box. Oluoch and Musa have since reverted to their natural playing positions.i.e Central Defence. He went and got the best that the regional market could offer in the man with the wicked left foot- Abouba Sibomana and the equally talented and forward thinking Nzigiyimana. These two players have undoubtedly improved our defensive and offensive units especially with their marauding runs on the flanks.
When we lost Danny Sserunkuma, Calabar and Kizito, the three players that many believe won for us the 2014 TPL title, many wrote us off as contenders for the 2015 KPL Championship. Coach F. Nutall has outwitted even the wily fox that is Sam Timbe and the self proclaimed Lion – Matano, by bringing in capable replacements in Olunga, Glay, Aucho and Wendo, just to mention a few. Glay has remained the warrior that we knew he was while acquitting himself very well with our playing style. Ernest Wendo, with the exception of the two fullbacks looks the capture of the season for me. He is not afraid to mix it with the big boys. He is comfortable on/with the ball, whether in the air or on the floor and loves to tackle just like Gatusso. His size is imposing for his age and can beat his man either with skills or brute force, (We can call him the new Paul Pogba). May be he is the one reason Gatusso is no longer at ease sitting on the bench. We still love you Gatusso and we need your experience and drive. Our coaches will decide whom to field and in what kind of matches. This is what Wenger would call ‘a good problem’- When a team has two quality players in each position. As at now, the battle for the Central places has intensified between Gatusso, Aucho and Wendo while Eric looks to have given up. The 3 players are solid, efficient and capable of
erasing any memories of Kizito that still lingers on in our minds. The athleticism and dynamism of our midfielders is a joy to watch and their ability to recycle possession over and over is already causing our opponents nightmare. Chemelil F.C are the latest team to be over-run everywhere in the field. Olunga is not Sserunkuma and he will never be, but he has his unique style that is already appealing to the Kogalo fan base. He is physically imposing and with very quick feet unlike in the last 5 years when we have had pint sized strikers- easily bundled off the ball (just look at the late Mureu, Blackberry, Rama and Danny!!!) His heading ability, ball control and anticipation will become better as he piles up the games. He is not easy to disposes and his running the channels and off the ball will improve eventually. Whatever Olunga lacks now, he will learn from his coaches and fellow players. Olunga has awoken in us the spirit of one time golden boy of Kogalo – Steve
“Brigadier” Odiaga. His height, runs, hold up play, shooting and physicality makes the memories of
Odiaga flood back. The only difference is that he is left footed while Odiaga was right footed. Marking Olunga is going to be many defenders’ nightmare, and if in doubt just ask Felly Mulumba, Willis Ouma and the CNaPS defenders. The boy will improve on the 9 TPL goals that he scored last season while playing at Thika Utd. This is the platform Michael; the road to greatness has been thrust upon you, go for it as many before you have done. For a change, our strikers (Meddie and Olunga) are going to be the ones bullying the opposing defenders in the TPL. The dead ball specialist that is Ali Abondo will help drag many defences out of position with his movement as he mesmerizes them with his goals. Bernard Odhiambo can hope to replicate his brother’s performances as well as inherit his former jersey,:- number- 15. He has the ability and discipline to succeed at Gor Mahia. The older players who merited playing for Gor Mahia from the season 2015 going forward were retained at the end of last season. They do not want to spend no wonder in the last played match gate charges were revised downwards and still they did not want to attend. It is a culture that is so embedded. I thought accommodation while at Congo is the host’s responsibility so the team only needs air tickets and bonuses/allowances?
CAF changed those rules starting from this years competitions. Each team will research, book and pay for their own accommodation… It is even better that way because away teams will not have to suffer mistreatment from their hosts..
