Gor Mahia fightback and edge Homeboyz 3-2
Gor Mahia had to fight back from a goal down and were on the verge of settling for another 2-2 draw before a late goal by Charles Momanyi rescued all three points for Kogalo. Ivorian Ephrem Guikan grabbed a brace.

Former Kakamega Homeboyz defender Charles Momanyi returned to haunt his former employers as he grabbed the winning goal to give Gor Mahia a 3-2 win in their Kenyan Premier League match at the Bukhungu Stadium, Kakamega on Wednesday.
The hosts had taken the lead through Ali Ahmed before the champions pulled levelled through Ivorian striker Ephraim Guikan on the stroke of half time.
Guikan gave K’Ogalo the lead in the second half but veteran striker Allan Wanga restored parity for the hosts before Momanyi struck the winner 10 minutes to the end.
The win sees Gor extend their lead at the top of the table to 30 points, five clear of second-placed Ulinzi Stars.
The 16-time league winners now switch their attention to Sunday’s friendly match against English Championship side Hull City before welcoming Algeria’s USM Alger in their second Confederation Cup match three days later.
Gor Mahia coach Dylan Kerr praised his charges never-say attitude.
“The victory was good but we need to kill off matches earlier to avoid these late dramas,” he noted.
His opposite number, Mike Mururi said he would work on rectifying the mistakes that cost his side.
“We took a deserved lead but the boys lost focus later on and this something we need to address going forward,” he observed.
Kerr made changes from the side that drew 1-1 away to Rwandese side Rayon Sports last Sunday with lead strikers Meddie Kagere and Jacques Tuyisenge both dropping to the bench.
The visitors dominated early proceedings but it was the hosts that created the game’s first chance on five minutes as Wanga drew a fine save from Gor keeper Shaban Odhoji.
Wanga alongside his strike partner Hassan Kikoyo linked up well upfront constantly putting pressure on the Gor defence.
The hosts took the lead after 31 minutes as midfielder Ahmed fired past Odhoji after he was put through by Moses Mudavadi.
Gor however ensured that the teams went into the break level as Guikan finished off Boniface Omondi’s pass.
On resumption, Gor, who are yet to beaten this in the league this season, controlled proceedings and eventually went ahead as Guikan reacted first on a loose ball on the edge of the Homeboyz box to fire past David Juma on 54 minutes.
However, the hosts would hit back as Wanga headed home in the 65th minute to restore parity. Gor would have the last laugh as Momanyi popped up to punish his former side and hand Gor the three points.

Its an acceptable fact that a team with numerous assignments continentally normally struggle locally vis a vis locally idle sides , a case in point being Chelsea .
It is strange that Kogalo with all this congestion has 30 points having played 2games less than our closest competitor , is it that even in our extremely fatigued situation we are still better than the rest .

Bora ushindi, that’s 3 vital points!!! Even if we sip what is becoming our usual “mbili mbili kama kawaida” the end effect is not as negative as it would have been if we drew or lost. Well done Gulkan, team. Anyone with an update on our leading goal scorers. Finally at least the team has a chance to recuperate and train before our next important match against USM Algiers on 16/5/2018.

Exactly, Gulkan is quite a finisher. Thx for the info. Hopefully one of our players will win the KPL Golden Boot. The Golden Glove appears to be slipping away due our “mbili mbili kama kawaida” approach by the defense/G.K(s). The players need to be reminded of these awards. Sadly, our EC never sees it fit to acknowledge our players with any award at the end of a season. With K’Ogalo, Rayon, Yanga and KCCA all involved in the CAF group stages may again see the CECAFA Club tournament being derailed again. EC must also ensure that H.Star program does not interfere with K’Ogalos especially unnecessary friendlies and training sessions now H.Stars has a new TB.
I think the golden boot has already slipped off due to our strikers inconsistency in games and lack of over relayance in one goal scorer!! As at now Nzoia’s Elvis Rupia leads with eleven goals and the six goals margin is too big considering that any player in Kogalo squad is capable of scoring. The golden glove too will slip off because of the rotation of our goalkeepers. Furthermore we are now sobbing in goals at an alarming rate!

Reference to Musymo’s post on Kogalo’s top goal scorers. If that’s the case, then why the hell does Kerr keep Guikan aside all the time. Is there something personal here? Ama ni vile siye Kerr alimscout?
I think it’s just because of his injury. He is not 100% fit, and I have seen him struggling in the previous games. Jasego can tell us more.
Sam Muga as has been pointed out,Sir Kerr likes industry and high work rate but Guikan is very technical.Coach prefers strikers to run after the ball while guikan prefers the ball to run towards players.Plus he was injured but is getting back.I repeat a fully match fit guikan is a nightmare to any opposing defenders anywhere in Africa,should he regain his best then on his back K’ogalo can reclaim all lost glory.I just pray he gets that chance and electrifies EA soccer phone…
British coaches prefer industrious players who are “full of running”. Remember the case of Bob Williamson and Dan “Flava”. However players who can “run and think at the same time” will mdogo mdogo eventually worm their way into the 1st eleven. Gulkan is slowly and clearly presenting his case, if he does score, he is normally either denied by the post or an exceptional save, very rare to see him making rugby conversions.

Congratulation to the Team. This is what a team should be. Anyone can play in a competitive game. Any player can be called to duty. This is what also kills the sacred cow mentality. I think gone are the days when a player would miss practice or misbehave and still play because there is some one behind. Kerr has managed to create competition within the team so that in case of an absence caused by injury or any other circumstance, the team is still able to perform. Think of a classical case scenario when Nzigimana, Ochieng and Walusimbi were all out and we never had any capable player waiting on the wing, it would have been disastrous.This is also good for a player because they know that the coach has faith in them. Their confidence level begins to rise and thus perform better. As it is turning out in Kpl no team should ever be underrated. Every Team is playing for something.The Team having to catch up showed according to me that you do not say it is over until it is over.
the coach has shown that he trust his lieutenants and that is why Philemon is playing unusual position in the back line and never disappoints it also shows the depth of the team and team spirit.
