Gor Mahia floor Bandari 2-0

Scorer: Samuel Onyango

Gor Mahia were in sensational form in Mombasa on Sunday when they blanked Bandari 2-0. The goals came from Samuel Onyango and Francis Afiriyie. Boniface Oluoch, making a return to the starting line-up, saved a penalty. Missing from the team was skipper Kenneth Muguna, who is rumoured to be headed to KCB.

Samuel Onyango put Gor Mahia ahead in the first half before Francis Afiriyie scored in the second half for his second succesive match with a goal.

Additional reporting from the Nation

“I watched our opponents game against AFC Leopards and I got few things to work out and plan how to tackle them., I’m happy my boys played as per my instructions,” he said.

In the first five minutes, Bandari had an upper hand with Yema Mwana and William Wadri testing Gor goalkeeper Boniface Oluoch, who made brilliant saves.

The next 15 minutes belonged to the visitors where they managed to get three consecutive corners, which Samuel Onyango failed to utilise well, forcing with some fans to call on other player to take the set pieces.

In the 25th minute, a fine free kick by Dan Otewa was connected by Mwana who sent a hard shot which Oluoch made a daring save. In the 37th minute, Abdalla Hassan made a solo move from the centre and blasted the ball which beat Oluoch, but the Gor defence cleared their lines.

Gor got their first goal at stroke of half time when Onyango received a fine pass from Yikpe Gnamien and sent a powerful ground shot past the helpless Michael Wanyika.

In the second half, Gor started to attack vigorously pinning their opponents into their territory and it was no surprise when in the 48th minute, Francis Afriye dribbled past three Bandari defenders to send a shot into the far corner of the net.

In the 64th minute, Bandari could have reduced the deficit when Hassan was fouled inside the box and was awarded a penalty. But Wadri’s powerful kick was punched by Oluoch, who made another save from the Bandari player’s rebound.

A minute before the final whistle, Bandari had another golden chance to get a consolation, but Mwana who got a fine pass from hard-working Shaaban Kenga, failed to kick and Gor defender cleared the danger.

These players should care for their careers not to feel like world is ending for Gor. Gor may be having trying moments but the team will not remain in this situation. GMAF and other well wishes will bail it out it is just a matter of time.

Im of the view that, (Talk to Gor Mahia FB administrators) and pin the GMAF Flyer on all Gor Mahia Facebook Pages and Groups so as to reach a wider base faster even, the diaspora. Many are unaware of GMAF. As long as accountability can be shown, Im sure guys shall contribute. Also on the flyer, inform guys to spread the GMAF by word of mouth everywhere and, even on radios.

Afriye is one of the best talent’s that has ever set foot in kenya… he’s so fast,so intelligent,so skillful…if he can settle down he will do wonders..he has 4 goals in the league and they are all extremely classic goals… Samuel onyango is also a very underated player but he’s so strong…so fast ,so energetic…a good goal scorer… Miguna exit will be a good opportunity for other players to showcase their talent… kudos to the organizers of Libya trip it has really motivated our players…Bonny oluoch looked rejuvenated…

Kudos to the team. As usual we of little faith have been proven wrong. At some point itwad abput the taw deal we gotfrom signing the westies yet now they are a joy to watch. @kosero always reminds us that nothing is broken and no nèd to gnash our teeth. Now even Mwalala concurs that we win clean and are favourites to retain the title.
@Jasego, what happened to the sponsorship we were to sign today?

@Dan original ..truth be told …Afriye, Mapigano n Yikpe were players who hadn’t had competitive football for some time … They were so Rusty but with game time they are getting better..even as at now Yikpe n Afriye are still struggling to finish 90mins.. without lingering injuries…fans ain’t Angels we only judge from what we see but the good thing with football u can always proof yourself n earn respect..
