Gor Mahia floor Sofapaka 2-0
Gor Mahia scored a convincing 2-0 win over second placed Sofapaka at Kisumu on Sunday. The goals came from the in form Samuel Onyango and reliable scorer Jacque Tuyisenge. The win puts Gor Mahia in a commanding position.

Champions Gor Mahia are two wins away from lifting the SportPesa Premier League title for unmatched 18th time after they edge visitors Sofapaka 2-0 in a thrilling heavyweight clash at Moi Stadium in Kisumu on Sunday.
Samuel Onyango and Jacques Tuyisenge scored a goal a piece in the second half to stretch K’Ogalo’s lead to 66points. Sofapaka remains second on 56points.
A delighted Gor’s coach Hassan Oktay said he was now sure of lifting the title.
“Now I can say that we are champions because we have opened a big gap. This game was very important for us,” said Oktay.
At the fully packed stadium, Gor supporters sent early their call for a win with jeers on Samuel Onyango when he failed to slot home from a free-kick at edge of the box.
Sofapaka also won a free-kick the other end just moments later, Jacques Tuyisenge rising high to send away Omar Moussa’s strike.
Eight minutes into the contest, Sofapaka goalkeeper Justine Ndikumana was forced to a double save to deny Tuyisenge from close-range after being assisted by Kenneth Muguna.
The visitors had not settled in the “heavyweight” clash as K’Ogalo dictated the exchange and always threatened from the flanks.
Regarded the perfect free-kick taker in the coach Oktay’s squad, Muguna was called into action on the 23rd minute, the latter bending a beautiful shot, which went wide by few inches.
John Avire attempted to find the back of the hosts net on the 25th and 32nd minutes respectively through long-range efforts, but luck was not on his side.
Gor’s goalkeeper Fredrick Odhiambo had to be alert in his area five minutes to the break and make a timely save from George Maelo’s free-kick, before several waiting yellow shirts inside his area could connect.
Gor almost took the lead immediately after the restart when Francis Kahata found Onyango upfront with a low pass, the latter’s one touch finish going wide.
Onyango left the thousands of K’Ogalo supporters singing on the 57th minute when he raced to beat Sofapaka’s goalkeeper Ndikumana with a rising shot.
The shot-stopper had left his line early in attempt to make a clearance before Onyango arrived.
Both sides then made substitutions, the visitors resting Kilume Mohammed for Ibrahim Kajula, while the hosts brought in Erisa Ssekisambu for Nicholas Kipkirui.
Center referee Felix Ekai was forced cool tempratures in the clash on the 76th minute before players from both side almost engaged in a fight.
One minute later, Tuyisenge netted the second goal to move Gor to two wins away from winning the domestic title.
The Rwandese collected a pass from Kahata and dribbled inside the box, before rounding goalkeeper Ndikumana to slot home in the empty net.
Five minutes to the break, Pistone Mutamba would have pulled one for his side but his header from a corner-kick delivery went wide.

Any plan of impending discipline should be totally shelved until further notice. Whilst the ease with which we swatted our most immediate opponent should be a cause for celebration , it is equally a reason to worry because the lack of a serious opponent , a lack of any discernible pressure becomes our Achilles heel when we go continental , the unfortunate part is that there is nothing we can do about it because its the forte of the rest of the pack to raise their game , it is what in France is called the Paris Saint Germaine (PSG)problem ( Absolutely no Local competition) .
When we witness a situation when we are busy away in Africa for weeks and come back still ahead of the log while having played 3-4games less , then there is a problem and when we can still come back with all the congestions , jetlags , fatigue , exhaustions and injuries but still emerge unscathed then it is even a bigger problem .

Were they to succeed , then the biggest beneficiary of it would be Gor Mahia , since Kisumu Allstars like their predecessors Kisumu Hotstars and Kisumu Hotstars would be the de facto Gor Mahia youth team where Prospective bright talents from around the Lakeside would hone their skills , acquire the experience and transition to Gor Mahia based on whatever agreeable arrangement , those are the kinds of arrangements that produced the likes of Bobby Ogolla , John Okello Zangi , Charles Engine Otieno , Tobias Juakali Ochola plus many many many more .
The fact that we had an endless supply of such European league quality material means that it is natural quality that abounds in plenty just like the natural quality of athletes from the Rift .
Going back to these basics , scouting and signing these boys while still in school and then loaning them out is more beneficial than the unsustainable corruption prone recruitment policy if you can call it one , that we currently apply , we have better quality footballers than Rwanda , Burundi , Uganda and Tanzania .

I see many fans asking where Blackberry is. The boy has fallen down the pecking order. He is even below Boniface Omondi who couldn’t get game time. He was benched and never took it kindly and that affected his performance. He needs to stay positive and work hard.
The reason we keep succeeding is because of our foreign coaches who only play those ready to deliver. Any other option like picking players on emotion and history would make us fall like ingwe.

I think Gor should park the bus in our next game and feature unused players like Asudi for our next game and hope for a draw. We need to win it where it matters most against who else than Ingwe. The stakes are always high but this would raise it a bit.

Congratulation to the Team. Indeed it is said that hard work pays. Admittedly, it has not been easy. Playing back to back matches and being involved in the continental assignments is no mean task. Staying focused and tactical I think has been the main style of handling such matters. For me this is why one needs to be very patient when times are hard. If one was to operate with emotions, things tend to take twists and turns. It takes teamwork of people with resolve to come out good. I am imagining a scenario when we lost and drew some matches that all of a sudden things just began to go berserk. I think that as we get into the next face of FIFA’s requirement of aligning the leagues, we should be better placed to perform better in the continental fixtures, with right recruitment or right players. For the league, it is a forgone case. In simple terms, we are back to where we belong.
We need 4 points to be Champions, meaning if we beat Nzoia Sugar on Wednesday this week then we just need a draw against Ingwe to lift the Diadem. But then again, who wants to draw against Chingwe? Thorough beating will serve as a reminder to them that we call the shots when it comes to Kenyan football. I rest my case.

@Sylvester, I agree with you on this matter. looking at the gap that Gor gives other teams, it is too wide. It has exposed our the kind of coaches we have in our league, more so the local coaches. they are not helping our league. I had suggested some times back that many good coaches be allowed in our league for the sake of good football. Look at the just concluded Epl, how many English coaches are up the table? Why not KPL? Our local teams are really pulling us down. Let us get up back up, where we belong.
Those who doubted His Excellency Hassan Oktay “Oktal”, are tongue tied. This man is a good coach. If we can keep him for another season or two, I see Gor Mahia reaching Semi finals if not Finals of champions League. With some good recruitment, it can be done.
