Gor Mahia forced to 1-1 draw by Posta Rangers

Scorer: Agwanda

A last minute goal by Posta Rangers forced Gor Mahia into a second succesive draw. Enock Agwanda had given Gor Mahia the lead .

Additional reporting from goal.com
Gor Mahia extended their unbeaten run in Kenyan Premier League to 34 games despite a 1-1 draw against Posta Rangers at Nyayo Stadium on Sunday.

The fifteen times league champions came into the match winless in 2016 in all competitions, and under pressure from the fans to perform against a side that won the Football Kenya Federation league and managed to collect three points against Muhoroni Youth in season opener last weekend.

However, it did not take long for the champions to get a goal as Ronald Omino was fed down the right wing, leaving two defenders for dead before beautifully feeding Enock Agwanda, who did well to control the ball before burying it deep past the opponent’s custodian.

K’Ogalo would have doubled their lead on several occasions, but poor finishing and good goalkeeping from Ian Otieno denied the champions a second goal.

The Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno’s men would have been level in the 35th minute after Achesa found his way into the dange zone following Nizigiyimana blunder, but Mukaisi failed to connect it and nothing worth came into their way as the half-time whistle beckoned.

Frank Nuttall brought in Ian Wafula in place of ineffective George ‘Blackberry’ Odhiambo, and the youngster’s first involvement almost made an impact, only for Kahata to be muscled out of the ball by the defenders.

Posta Ranger’s forward Mwaura found himself in a nice position in the 63rd minute with only the keeper to beat, however Jerim Onyango managed to salvage his defenders by keeping it out.

Substitute Jacob Keli, could have doubled the lead in the 70th minute as Kahata played him in, however, the former AFC Leopards ace could not hit the back of the net.

Eeh, let me hear the usual bulshit team needs time to gel.

Did not see much ffighting spirit from the boys and off course did not expect goals from out of form -blackberry, don’t understand why he starts matches.

    goodluck in CAPS!

@Jakoyo that was a very even encounter and Posta Rangers deserved to draw going by their performance and fighting spirit. K’Ogalo was just hanging on and were kept properly kept on the back foot by well drilled opponent. K’Ogalo has a long way to go….!,

I have prepared myself for a K’Ogalo Top 8 finish this season. There will be plenty of draws and Kichapo nacho kinakuja …! This ka- team is not worth reclaiming the championship unless some drastic measures are taken to build their winning mentality.

  • Gor mahia stood no chance in this game.from play perspective, it looked a new outfit compared to rangers yet it had 80percent of last year’s outfit in the field.very very lucky to earn a point.kpl coaches hav gotten the trick.just increase the tempo of the game and GM is out.like CNAPS did.Madagascar will be a formality to be honest.

  • Gor’s midfield was okey. They pushed so well but the attack was blunt. Finishing failed so this is where we miss our ssensational trio of olunga, kagere and abondo.

Good game n enjoyable to watch, but Gor is still not fit enough. From 2nd half Posta just seemed to b on turbo charge. Gor still lucks 90min fitness… Posta players were match faster but b4 the tiring Gor were the better team. I expect the team to improve. My other note is that despite Kahata n Aucho Gor did not seem to open that many chances. But I must add that I liked the combination of the two midfielders. Congrats to Posta for the gud show, they looked more like a Zambian team. Gud game Gor, I know you will soon b on two cylinders.

  • what is all this whinning and sulking all about? there is no trophy to chase this season because the kpl trophy belongs to ulinzi while the rest belong to posta rangers. the players should simply relax, draw and lose their games.

Didn’t watch the match but the fact that we didn’t lose means we are still in it. All we need to do is avoid a Chelsea situation. All is not lost but I fear for those fans expecting another 2015 performance. Too bad for them

Sport peasa , Sport pesa, we are crying!! We know that if we win frequently as we used to do then you will be out of business. Something strange is happening.I fear that the next thing is no fan will be going to the pitch to watch Gor.

Guys pliz let me,a European trained sporting director sum up Gor’s woes to you…
1-We are using tired old tactics that might have worked last year when we had a magical trio attack of olunga, meddie and abondo hence though predictable still always overwhelmed opponents coz we scored at will…That is not the case anymore
    2. Players are being fielded owing to big name mentality and not simple match fitness or current form…Explain why Nuttall won two pre-season friendlies against giants St George and Al-Hilal without the foreign legion but now can’t win any Kpl match with then on board?Point is,those pro-foreigners are all unfit and off-form owing to injuries and long lay-offs and should not be playing…Nizigiyimana’s countless blunders are just a case in point
3-Our aptitude for long balls is not helping Gor as we have very short players and will always lose such advantage to opponents who then pin us on the backfoot and pile pressure on our shaky central defence resulting in blunders and goals
    Solution
Gor has 28 registered players not 18 so Nuttall should start massive squad rotations with different formations until he gets the right groove e.g wea is Ernest Wendo,Eric Ochieng,Luke Ochieng,Jackson Saleh etc who can all be drafted in a re-jigged starting 11 just to see how they cope coz let’s face it…Results from the usual players ain’t forthcoming either way…
May God save our beloved Kogalo

I saw a game of two different halves, first one belonged to Gor while second half belonged to Rangers and a strange additional six minutes which belonged to the referee. Nonetheless, we got a point and we say Amen, thanks to God. Jakoyo, this obsession with individual players is unfair, why do you keep attacking a player like that? You seem to be having something personal against him? And why are you using such uncivil language here, Admin please take note.

  • comrades i feel we should be patient once more for results to come our way. we will get results immediately the EC settles down and begin strategising and stop the issue of sabotaging coach. i know the caliber of Tom Ogweno will just work out issues for goals to come .

For i don’t think there is a problem, only a few players are still on holiday, Karim, Abouba, and Blackberry still out of form. Coaches should go for those players who are fit. Another problem is our strike force, we need a tall and speedy striker to finish the high crosses into the de area, otherwise maybe we are waking up to the reality, nobody respects nobody, a legend like Bobby Ogolla being told by non entity official, who doesn’t even know the pride and pains of being a follower Gor Mahia great like Bobby, shouts off Bobby eti aende, are the ones we need to get out of this EC. Maybe it is also time say Rachier thank you for you service, lets move on and get new ideas and disciples.

  • AR’s continued delay in calling for elections is giving even candindates
With outside chances a voice and sympathy.Given his track record,he is expected to ride back very easily as most of c andindates hav no known football management history and also no one will gamble with such a big entity as gor mahia.AR should therefore give ME a chance to reaffirm my faith in his GM development and silence the unnecessary critcisms and make strong critical decision eg in TB.get rid of politicians from TB and hire proffessionalCOACHES.

@ Jakoyo – we did not draw because of Blackberry. The truth of the matter is that almost all Gor Mahia players seem to be out of form. Yesterday I puttied Wafula who seemed to be a shadow of his last year’s performance. Not only him but the bigger majory. Of course this list includes Blackberry, Aucho, etc.

@ OGANGO TRAILER – let us remain optimistic of the good results. If Rangers, Bandari are the best so far then we are strongly serious condenders for the trophy.

@ Joods – to me it was a 50-50 kind of a situation. Rangers created chances and Gor mahia equally created their chances. After-all the best team is not measured by the possession but but number of goals scored/conceded.

@ Ingo – somehow you are right but there is no time to relax and enjoy the game. We have to start winning as because we don’t want to start chasing the game like we are now doing at Chelsea

@sylvaonyi – Abondo was not that good in scoring but we will confirm as soon as he returns back from South Africa. Even last season we started polepole but gained momentum as the league progresses

@ dinga – it is true. Gor Mahia is not yet fit but this I can promise will be temporary. Sooner or later K’Ogalo will be where we belong ie on top of the league

@jambita tiny – what make you think the trophy belongs to Ulinzi? Ulinzi drew in their first match and won their second so I don’t see what can distinctively show that they have what it takes to win the trophy

@sandroman n dedez – it is true we scored in the 2nd minute. Why are you becoming a prophet of doom. Why should you pray for a loss? Very soon the coach will find a winning formula.

@Dan Original – it’s true that we are still at it. As for 2015, we may do same because we have what it takes, though it will not be that easy.

@oriaorogo – how will Sports Pesa not in busy if we win frequently? Sports pesa is bigger than Gor Mahia so Gor Mahia is not the determinant factor on whether or not Sports pesa in business

@ Ja’Asego – I echo your sentiments on players’ rotations. However, the sad news is that most of them are still lacking match fitness

@jakorando – I agree with you that we should be patient. However, this has nothing to do with EC. When players were supposed to be practicing during pre-season, the bigger majority disappeared.

@Abok Nyamwanda – it’s true there is no problem as such. On team’s fitness, it’s very difficult for the coach to choose. To be honest, players who are fit could only be 4.
