Gor Mahia fund raiser set for Tuesday

The fund raiser to raise money for the trip to Congo will be held on Tuesday.
Organizing secretary Ronald Ngala told goal that the club is targetting to raise Ksh 9 million. “We are in financial crisis regarding our ?up-coming match in Congo. Some of the money we want to raise will also help run the club after this as we don’t have a sponsor yet.”

Ngala has asked fans to turn up in large numbers to make the event a success. “We request all our fans and well-wishers to turn up in a big way so as to make this event a success. With no sponsors, we only have them to turn to.”
The club’s vice president, David Kilo also said that fans who cannot attend money can send money via the paybill number 350100.

“We have a fundraiser on Tuesday to raise funds for the team to travel to Dolise next week to play our opponents AC Leopards. “There will be a Harambee for all but if one cannot make it, you can send money through paybill number 350100 to assist the team to travel.” said Kilo to supersport.com

Kilo explained that the money raised would be used to cater for the team in Congo
“This money will be entirely used for logistics to Congo Brazzaville since we have to cater for it for ourselves because at this point Caf doesn’t play any financial role until the group stage where they finance teams in the club competition.”
“We would like to urge everyone to assist in helping the team go to play away in Dolise against AC Leopards and have named this initiative as ‘Road to Congo’. he said

gor mahia will not be the team going through after the fixture in Dolise. It would not be appropriate for African football if Gor Mahia succeeded in this situation just as it is embarassing that a country like Kenya; which stands at par with South African MNCs, has its club football in tatters.
Instead of condoning perpetual failure by being brainwashed into thinking you are helping the club, go for real change. Refuse to bail out continous ineptness and let the club rise off the ashes of its collapse.
The fundraising will not explain why JOMAA kits are not donned, why their has been no information on whether Gor’s future is Socios model or Joint-Stock model, etc

1.That’s in my view pure cheap emotional black mail as opposed to long term self sustainable strategy based on the premise of accountability and transparency.
Can EC provide a breakdown of how the last harambee’s monies (kshs.12m excluding the President’s contribution) have been used. Such a gesture would encourage fans/members to contribute. What happened to the AGM.

    2. Believe you me a contingent of 20 to Congo Brazzaville would approximately cost.
    1.Airtickets return $950×20=$19,000 which is approx. kshs.1,800,000.
    2. Accomodation ,at the probably exaggerate, rate being bandied around by EC of kshs.18,000 per night is 20 x 18,000 x 3 nights(most likely to be for 2 nights) = kshs.540,000.
Total Accomidation + tickets =kshs.2,340,000 and add 660,000 for other expenses then the cost of the return match against AC Leopards cannot exceed kshs.3,000,000.
EC should cut to the chase and give fans the salary budget for the club as GMFC cannot be run through harambees.
Count me out these harambee stuff but whenever the Sacco is started am ready to contribute 500monthly 3 months in advance.
Get 10,000 such like minded fan and that means a stable income for our beloved club of kshs.15m 1/4ly in advance that is before other income e.g gate collections, Supersport grants etc.

Please don’t misconstrue my opinion as discouraging anyone to make his contribution should your conscience be clear that your contribution will not be “eaten”.
When will the begging stop, Jokogalo show some PRIDE.

    • Correction =Accomodation is 20x18000x3=kshs.1,080,000 which means the cost of the return leg cannot exceed kshs.3.5M

you can’t do the same thing always and expect a different results. this harambee issue is outdated one, and I’ll not support it. Gor Mahia is a big club and should think a such. sacco all day long.

For those with other ideas on how to make the club self sufficient the best thing is for them to go the fund raiser and raise the issues there. Maybe all along AR and the EC have not heard of these suggestions

  • Admin, correction in the current bloated EC dispensation Kilo is not one of the 3 Vice Chairmen but rather one of the 5 secretaries. In fact he’s the Organizing Secretary while Ngala is the assistant secretary.
Whatever happened to the elected Sec.Gen, he of “mambo ya accountability wachia members” and “kazi ya fans ni kuu lipa ticket, kuwatch game na kurudi home”.
To me it seems EC no longer needs members/ their accountability & AGM but would rather focuss on fans and harambees.

Please don’t discourage the other fans. You also have the PayBill number to use. A SACCO is not something that you just start out of the blues and get it running. It might also fail. The surest way to go is the membership way. So long as you have the critical mass to run the show the others including sponsors will come to ride on the success.

      • This very site reported on 16th Dec 2014 that:
Ambrose Rachier announced that the cooperative society for Gor Mahia has been registered with the cooperatives society and will be launched on December 28, 2014.

Its no longer a secret that Jakom has already registered GM Sacco.
Dan O -The question is why doesn’t he want to make it operational because as an astute lawyer he knew that that it would be beneficial, at least better than the current Society option and more implementable than the limited company option.

Please note both the Sacco (Act) and the Society(Act) are made up of members/membership.
Even a company is made up of shareholders who are essentially members.

Its only the Sacco Act that has enough regulatory (enforceable) safeguards that encourage transparency & accountability including strict deadlines in as to the presentation of proper accounts, engaging of approved auditors not to mention oversight by the commissioner of cooperatives.
Of course harambees require no accountability. Even the exact monies raised is always are mystery.

@Dan Original, this is something which we have posted in this site severally. If the EC has continued to ignore our proposal, they should carry the burden. Harambee is not the solution to this chronic problem at the club.

EC should think outside the box and this is why EC members were elected by Gor Mahia members to pursue all opportunities to make Gor Mahia a darling club in the continent with a financial viability that will be sustainable in the long term.

We have talked severally on the methodologies but all fell on deaf ears. I still below in the following:-
    1. SACCO
    2. Private placement of Gor Mahia Holding Company Ltd to raise funds through share subscriptions through selling shares to Gor Mahia fratenity.
    3. Sale of branded merchandises that should include:-
    – popular replica jerseys,
    – track-suits,
    – gym gear,
    – cups,
    – caps,
    – polo t-shirts,
    – pens,
    – plates,
    – watches/wall clocks,
    – mobile phone covers,
    – spare tyre cover,
    – towels,
    – jackets,
    – stickers,
    – pencils porches for school going kids,
    – scarves etc

It is the duty and responsibility of the EC to come up with innovative ideas with production of different affordable merchandises and establish credible & transparent distribution channels or points such as the Nakumatt, Uchumi, Tuskys, Sports houses etc. Alternative EC can establish branded Gor Mahia distribution channels in all major towns and shopping centres across the country and region.

There was crackdown of bogus sales points but this died as one of the officials is involved in the business. Few questions:-
    i) Why should our fans continue to wear worn out replica jerseys?
ii) Why is the continued sale of jerseys not being pursued by EC?

Merchandises venture can boost the finances of the club in a great way and can be the turning point for this great club. EC can explore joint venture opportunities with the producers and the club will be responsible through its business unit to drive the sales and distributions networks.

eish! This thing of membership, i remember one Leslie Okudo tried in the 80’s, result branches used to finance, like i remember Gor used to come to Kericho to play Kericho all stars and brooke bond, it was the responsibility of our parents branch members then including Dawo senior to host the team including their expenses, people like Oyugi Ogango and Ouko used to contribute coz they new money was being spent responsibly, not this this bowl mbele and acconts nyuma style i’m seeing and for me i squarly blame Rachier, if he were serious then merchandise and membership would been what he would be discussing withg us
