Gor Mahia go down to Sofapaka 2-0

After their dominant display in Dar es Salaam Gor Mahia have been brought down to earth as they resumed their campaign on the local front. Playing in their first match with Zedekiah Otieno Zico back at helm, they went down 0-2 to Sofapaka at Kinoru stadium Meru.

oals in either half from Ezekiel Okare and Timothy Luda ensured victory for Batoto ba Mungu at Kinoru Stadium

Gor Mahia suffered a humiliating 2-0 defeat to Sofapaka in a Kenyan Premier League match played on Sunday.

Goals in either half from Ezekiel Okare and new signing Timothy Luda ensured that Batoto ba Mungu remained on course to for the title this season and condemed the former champions to first defeat under new coach Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno.

Otieno took charge of K’Ogalo following the exit of Brazilian coach Ze Maria, who has since signed for KF Tirana in Albania. The hosts started well pressurizing the opponents as early as the first five minutes, pinning them in their own half, and it was no surprise when they won a free-kick in a promising area inside six minutes, but Hillary Echesa could not hit the target.

It was not a concern though as it proved two minutes later, Gor Mahia defense was caught napping and Okore did well to get on the end of the ball and put it past Boniface Oluoch. In the 22nd minute, Timothy Otieno tried to get the ball past goalkeeper Mathias Kigonya, but the latter pulled a good save to deny him. It was a balanced affair after that, with both sides getting chances, but none took them.

Kenneth Muguna came close with a free-kick in the 28th minute but he was unable to hit the target. With some minutes to half time, Meddie Kagere released a fierce shot that was dealt with by the opponents custodian. Gor Mahia started the second half a better side with Kagere missing a glorius opportunity to bring the team to level terms.

It was a costly miss for him as it proved in the 50th minute. Timothy Luda took advantage of a rebound ball to double the advantage. Seven minutes later, the former Thika United man failed to hit the target with only Oluoch to beat, as Gor Mahia chased shadows. Not even the introduction of Jacques Tuyisenge could change things as Sofapaka dictated the proceedings.

Things got worse for the former champions with eighteen minutes to go as captain Musa Mohammed was sent off for a second bookable offence. It was a deserved victory for Sofapaka, who are aiming at challenging for the title this season.

Sofapaka XI: Mathias Kigonya (GK), Jonathan Mugabi, Rodgers Aloro, Willis Ouma, Wesley Onguso, Mohamed Kilume, Hillary Echesa (c), Ali Feni, Timothy Luda, Ezekiel Okare, Umar Kasumba.

Subs: Reuben Juma (GK), Kennedy Oduor, Samuel Mutiria, Morven Otinya, Meshack Karani, Maurice Odipo, Michael Oduor.

Gor Mahia: Boniface Oluoch, Wafula Innocent, Shakava Haron, Musa Mohammed, Wendo Ernest, Muguna Kenneth, Walusimbi Geoffrey, Otieno Timothy, Meddie Kagere and Mike Simiyu.

Subs: Odhiambo Fredrick, Onyango Joash, Otieno Philemon, Maloba Oliver, John Ndirangu, Baptiste Jean and Tuyisenge Jacques.

  • Wuololoooo Yaye ! Tusker takes pole position ? Yajowa, this are the Posttraumatic stress disorder of prolonged exposure to tiki taka. Am sure with Ze Maria results would have been either 4-0 or God forbid, 5-0.

Jodala shall overcome tiki tiki side effects and the sooner we do that , the better otherwise am happy with Zico as the historic 2017 Jodala treble is still within our reach .

Lets be patient as it is our TIME TO BELIEVE not TO CASTIGATE one of our own.

    • Go away with your lies. Jodala can’t win anything and there are more thrashings coming on the way. I will only go to watch any of the Gor Mahia matches when Zico is gone.

  • @Jakoyo , dont u think that your juvenile semantics are no longer funny , a few days ago with Zico being in charge for barely 3days , all the success in Dar were being attributed to him with Ze being termed an intruder , its so am sad that mindless mobocracy sychophantly led by the so called Jodala Jazz band is driving Gor to the Abyss and we can still afford to joke about it.
Now the ones who were enthusiastically congratulatingZico for the non backpass direct football that has seen one Mutebi of Uganda ” very successful worldwide” are now unashamedly attributing the sofapaka loss to Ze maria , but again if this is the same Jakoyo that at one time gave as real time fake updates from West Africa where he supposedly was attending the Kogalo game , then I wish to revert back to then when I concluded that he was one permanent incorrigible Joke.

Let’s celebrate as “jodala”coz the “feeling is orgasmic”.we are on the right path.i said coz there is no more soccer in gor mahia,i will be looking for results in the news.since am fully focused on 8/8/2017,i will be peeping over news just in case I come across any gor mahia result.Lets not blame Zico bcoz he is a jadala. Let’s blame ze maria even though he has never lost with this kind of margin ever since he started coaching gor mahia.but wait a minute.i thought Zico won super cup whose credit was “stolen”by ze maria?the enemies of gor mahia are now having afield day. It’s celebration time.

@Joods, Teddy and like-minded K’Ogalo faithfuls I understand your pain. It is painful for all of us, but I beg to differ with the sentiments from Entebbe that: “…..the so called Jodala Jazz band is driving Gor to the Abyss……….”. In all honesty we all know that Ze Maria engineered his own exit. It is now clear that he was just bidding his time in Gor Mahia as he was searching for more lucrative deals. None of these “Jodala” is responsible for the latest developments in Gor Mahia and for that reason I feel that this is not the right time for this “us versus them” rhetoric. Take a minute and think it over and you will come to the conclusion that Ze Maria’s heart was not here and as such nobody should be castigated for his abandoning Gor Mahia. This sigoi and agoro really is misplaced.

I too, was not in Meru and I really fail to understand how fortunes could change so drastically. Consider that the players Zico fielded today are the same that our ‘beloved’ Ze Maria depended on with Mike Simiyu being the only new addition. I would not be surprised if it turns out that the goals we conceded were soft. Perhaps Boniface Oluoch needs a break, but then this is football: Had Zico fielded Peter Odhiambo in goal and then we lose, we could still ask why Boni was benched!

As Ja’Asego puts it, today’s happenings are a good reason for acquiring a foreign coach ASAP. However, this should be done openly and competitively so that we don’t end up where we have been for the past 14 months. A Spanish or Dutch or German would be preferable owing to their passion and ambition for performance with good results.

Before we overate Sofapaka’s Ssimbwa, let us remember Ja’Asego’s remarks few weeks ago on Ugandan coaches’ propensity and predilection to ‘special programmes’ to enhance their achievements as coaches.

    • @BB , from the very moment Zico was appointed the assistant coach to Ze , the stage was already set in motion to frustrate Ze into submission and from my previous posts I said that those who view the change of guard from Ze to Zico as just some coincidence are missing the point and that Zico and some of the sychophants we see on this wall are just but mere pawns in intrigues they know nothing about.
The substansive Don Jadala as with the Mafia never appears in person but the ochestra that show their faces as his representatives must be pushed back bcoz we are In a Global world and such retrogressive semantics must not be entertained let alone tolerated.

  • EC steady the Kogalo ship by bringing in a new and tactful proven coach who can pick up the development of the players and team from where it is currently and steer us to better tidings continentally.Zico Cannot be the solution now if at all we are forward thinking and have any semblance of medium or long term planning.I still support a local coach being an assistant to a foreigner but not Head of GM TB.Let’s not segregate to days of old where Zico had Militia’s protecting him against any aggressors and KOgalo was equally split into two camps.Ze Maria left unceremoniously and at a bad time for which am still bitter as i had warned any major shocks at this crucial point would augur bad for the Team (records of those sentiments exist in this very forum). Be as it may and him gone,a tactful good coach will be required regardless of if Zico was to go ahead and win as many matches fact remains he is not best suited to Run GM at this point in time…

Sentiments are too late wuod Asego. Jodala are sinking tghe ship. As i had said earlioer Zico is no match for the technical prowess of the Ugandan coach. It is obvious he was due to be humiliated. Kimanzi will be next, and by the time the Romanian settles at AFC, we will be mince meat. Jadala is not the right person to be in charge now. i repeat. It will be a downward trend for us having now even lost the number one slot. Our target now seems a top 5 position.

Zico will be here till December ( its official ) so lets learn to live and appreciate him. If he is to win the next 10 consecutive matches everybody will be praising his name

As is my tradition whenever a new head coach is appointed i give him the benefit of doubt & time to settle into his role. His past not withstanding am compelled to do the same with Zico coz even Saul saw the light & did wonders as Apostle Paul. Zico please deliver the league coz the knockout shield cup is too tricky. We must be in CAF next year. I say pliz coz you didn’t recruit the players you are working with. Now to the real problem in GMFC, AR. AR, pliz note this strong/one man show is only acceptable if it delivers results Kagame style. Your Mugabe antics are really hurting GM. The club has lost at least kes.1M due to Nutall & now Ze Maria leaving without notice. Let the next head coach be vetted & contracted openly by the EC, even if you have a candidate. No more”weak backroom/ personal negotiations/ contracts”.LET ELECTED OFFICIALS PERFORM THEIR ROLES.

We seriously neeed foreign coach even if just to reign on our EC, As much as Zico can b a good coach I don’t think he has the ‘power’ to deal with akina Nyangi, AR, Ngala et al. Currently LucEmyel is free and he was one of the best Ingwe coaches. Why not hire him ?

As we crucify Jakoyo for this ‘Jodala’ mantra, let us not forget that the Jodala talk is a creation of Ze Maria. Come to think of it; BW worked with Sir Bobby rateng wuod Ogolla maninga wuoche gweno nyandhuru kwesi and Frank Ouna without any iota of discrimination. Then came FN who also worked with the same local duo. The chemistry was perfect, the respect mutual and the Tech Bench cohesive. However, alas! In comes Ze Maria, he surveys his working environment for a week and then we are told that he has drafted his assistant in the name of Aurelio and a fitness trainer from Italy. Next, his intolerance for anything local or any skin colour perceived to be inferior to his starts playing out in the open …… and K’Ogalo fans (led by Jakoyo) being the creative and quick witted lot that they are quickly sum it all up with the ‘Jodala’ phrase. I think Ze Maria has taken Gor Mahia so many years back thanks to his attitude and work ethics. It will take a very wise, pragmatic and ‘people person’ kind of a foreign coach to repair the damage caused by Ze Maria.

  • Another point for concern to me in GM’s long term welfare is this ”Endless Transition Philosophy” whereby individuals (both players and coaches) use our club a stepping stone to better things in the short term. Players/Coaches come with a singular mind of using our rich history and legacy to achieve accolades then boost their CVs and go on the free or alternatively negotiate with inept EC to broker a release clause then opine that GM is not in the business of blocking ”bahati ya wachezaji” when they have eaten ”chini ya maji”…Recent case in point is Meddie publicly urging Yanga to expedite their pursuit of his services so he can link up with them in August while we have an acute striking deficiency. We need warriors who are willing to Die for this team not journeymen. With Zico in charge interference from EC will hit the stratosphere with the likes of Nyangi even coming up with match day squads…Finally, Ze Maria go in peace but forget poaching your favorite players from GM to help you fight for a return to the Albanian Supaliga from Division 1 as i know Blackberry, Timothy, Nizigiyimana, Musa, Jacque and Wendo must be racing through your mind everytime you train those misfiring boys but pia sisi tunawahitaji, jaribu Uganda tafadhali…

    • FISH ROTS FROM THE TOP! Its deliberate lack of structures & planned confusion for the main benefit of 1 person & crumbs for the rest in EC. Only 2 people are ever privy to contracts for the head coaches of GMFC, the concerned coach himself & Mugabe. The same goes for the top players. Of course the players will leave for Albania “nationwide” side Tirana. I think that was already discussed & agreed during the exit meeting between AR & Ze Maria. Let’s give Zico a chance until the end of the season, if he can’t deliver either the league/shield then he’s not worth being an assistant coach or is part of the conspiracy to KEEP GM OUT OF CAF.Let EC then head hunt, in my opinion, a Mike Mutebi, who has a proven CV & knowledge of best talents from the region. That will be a BIG ADVANTAGE for us. The Luc Eyamels cost an arm & a leg but what do they achieve at CAF level. Lastly as regards 2018 CHAN, HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE AND HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO BUILD A STADIUM IN KENYA? BUILDING THE SGR SEEMS EASIER & CHEAPER.

Ja’Asego most of the people in the Gor Mahia ‘high table’ are not keen on the team stability and growth that you are advocating. I believe a good number of them did not vie for those leadership positions because of the desire to serve and develop. They are rather motivated by gastric instincts hence my choice of the phrase ‘high table’ Team stability means less opportunities for cut backs, kick backs and commissions. I hope you now understand why we shall continue enduring the high turnover of players and coaches in our ‘Mighty K’Ogalo’.

  • One thing that is very clear, Mighty Gor Mahia was too BIG and CHANGELLING for “AMBITIONLESS” Ze Maria. That is why he opted for a nationwide side in Albania, a country where the nation or any club has never won any title or even made any impact continentally, instead of pitting his wits against Everton and the CAF level. Even the local league was proving a difficult task for him. Note Loga & Nutall moved to other premier leagues. That players always prefer a soft coach is obvious but here at K’Ogalo we want results. If Tirana are such good paymasters why did Kahata reject them? GIVE ZICO A CHANCE HE KNOWS WHAT’S IN STORE IN CASE OF POOR PERFORMANCE, NWECH! Why rush for a foreign coach, any coach worth his salt should be under a contract right now.

  • In the 20th Century , Gor Mahia was a club feared not only in the region but in Africa as a whole , Cecafa was a routine cup while beating teams from West andNorth Africa was something we looked fwd , Then like now we got to complacent with changing dynamics and the journey downhill started aided n abetted by the Jodala of then , some who by God’s grace have since died , First Forward to the 21st century and we are further backward to where we were In the 20th century , now as of then , Jodala have resurrected sychophantically cheering on as the club takes One step forward and another 5steps backwards with the only beneficiaries not being the club but the eating chiefs and their cahorts to whom Kogalo is the cow that must be milked to oblivion.
Now that fate has dealt as Zico , that is who we have to support bcoz its one thing to hate what’s going on and quite another to celebrate the failing of the club bcoz as painful as it is , that is the only constant we have.
The world of football has gone so global that none of the top teams in England , Germany , Spain and France have a local coach bcoz they take life seriously and they come with there own coaching assistants bcoz of shared phylosophy ( I thought this was a common sense reason until Jodala reasoned) but here at home instead of globalising we are going back to nativity rituals and we even have the time and tolerance to have it as a topic of discussion , Common , in the 21st Century!! , As Jodala continues to feel we are doing well compared to what we have locally n which is akin to feeling good coz we r developing better n faster than South Sudan n Somalia , the ones who care about this club and have done it even during the times it was not fashionable or cool to go watch Gor , must not allow the forces of retrogression to take over our club just like some religion allowed fanatics n radicals to take over their faith

So when Ze Maria did what he knows best, to sideline Ogweno and Ottamax from the TB team and brought his crew all the way from Brazil and Italy. Some people are bullish and confident of Zico staying despite posting horrendous results yesterday that we used to vilify Ze Maria daily for and are now welcoming under Jadala. It can’t be that we apply double standards depending on who is at the Helm, I respect all but Ogango Trailer, Jakoyo, and all my other brothers here let’s agree to diasgree that you Cannot say Zico is coach until End Season Period (In CAPITAL LETTERS), without input from GM Stakeholders.
