Gor Mahia go for title against Vihiga

Fresh off a convincing win over arch rivals, AFC Leopards, Gor Mahia will now attempt to the seal the 2018-2019 Sportpesa premier League title when they take on Vihiga United at Machakos on Wednesday.

Coach Oktay is adamant that Kogalo must climb down from the celebration of the mashememji derby win and apply a laser like focus on Vihiga United.

“Vihiga United can afford to lose every game but against us. For them, beating Gor Mahia is like winning a World Cup fixture and we have to take the match seriously.

“It is not over yet, until the final game. It is only after that that we can start to celebrate and relax,” he said to the Standard.

Vihiga United are second from bottom but still have a chance to escape relegation. So they will be battling for this win. And assistant coach Zedekiah Otieno says Kogalo must show patience.

“We have had to be patient, taking one game at a time and trying to get the results. The title is now within touching distance and we will not take anything for granted against Vihiga because they are also fighting for points to remain in the league,” said coach Zico to the Star.

Second placed Bandari will play Mathare United on Wednesday. If they lose, they will have handed Gor Mahia the title.

The team misses Dennis Oliech’s leadership and inspirational play according to Oktay.

“We were waiting for him to his form. He is such a great striker and had shown great improvement after being out for a long time. That injury was a big blow for us and for him. I believe he would have made it back to the national team Harambee Stars.”

Oktay said even though he is injured, Oliech continues to inspire the players everyone from outside.

But Oktay thinks other players have picked up the slack.

“Keneth Muguna is playing very well. He has been fantastic. If I was working somewhere else, I would take him with me. Whatever I say to him, he does and it has been fantastic.

“Samuel Onyango is unbelievable. Joash Onyango and Haroun Shakava are the best partners at the back,” he said.

Good luck team. Very interesting scenerio is that we could be champions by the time this match kicks off. Keenly keeping an eye on Mathare/Bandari match. Something far away but very interesting– Breaking news…Man U has sold out next season tickets in record time inspite of their poor showing this season. Shows that we are light years behind the others. When will/is it even imaginable that such a thing happen at Kogalo.
