Gor Mahia hammer AFC Leopards 4-1

Scorer: Lawrence Juma

Gor Mahia were in rampant form in the Mashemeji derby on Sunday. They hammered arch rivals AFC Leopards 4-1. Just when many pundits were starting to write off the Kogalo season, the playing unit proved them wrong. For coach Polack, a big win as he silenced the critics who have been saying he lacks tactical savvy.

Additional reporting from futaa.com

Gislein Yikpe scored a brace as Gor Mahia emerged 4-1 winners over arch-rivals AFC Leopards in the Mashemeji Derby hosted at the MISC Kasarani on Sunday 10 November.

Leopards had come to the game buoyed by some good result and it was no surprise when they cornered their hosts in the first half.

John Mark Makwatta was to be brought down in the box by defender Joash Onyango but the referee refused to award a penalty in what amazed the entire Leopards bench and fans. They came knocking again in the closing stages of the half after defender Soter Kayumba was to see his header from a corner come off the upright.

Makwatta Threat

The half was to end with another effort from Makwatta being gathered by keeper David Mapigano after some crisp play from the Cassa Mbungo boys. While the first half belonged to Leopards, Gor Mahia had other ideas in the second as their domination started just after the resumption.

They were to make Leopards pay for missing their chances when Gislein Yikpe put them in the lead at the 55th minute. The Ivorian towering above the Leopards defense to power in a header from a Kenneth Muguna corner. The celebration was wild and he was to receive a yellow card for pulling out his shirt.

The Ivory Coast striker was to score his and Gor Mahia’s second ten minutes later after a sumptuous move from the home side. Yikpe was to start a move that ended with Clifton Miheso with the winger beating off a series of players before cutting it back for the striker who tapped the effort past Benjamin Ochan.

Leopards were to react to the setback by bringing on Boniface Mukhekhe for Dennis Sikhayi before withdrawing Hansel Ochieng for Vincent Oburu.

Miheso Goal

Gor Mahia was to bring on Boniface Omondi for Francis Afriyie and minutes later they tripled their lead. A quick counter saw Omondi spring the ball to Miheso with the former Leopards man sending a long ranger shot that beat keeper Ochan at the near post; the player refusing to celebrate his effort as a show of respect to his former employers.

Leopards were to pull a goal back seven minutes from time through Tresor Ndikumana at a time when Gor Mahia had to withdraw Yikpe for Nicholas Kipkirui. Kenneth Muguna was then sent to rest for Joakim Oluoch but the home team was not done yet as Lawrence Juma scored a fourth following some good work from Boniface Omondi down the right.

An additional five minutes was served to enable both sides to make the necessary adjustments on the scoreline but none was able to make any difference in those minutes.

It is with utmost humility that i request to take this earliest opportunity to offer my profuse apologies to Yikpe Ghislain Gnamien for having maligned his professional person by suggesting that he is average and not fit to don the honorable green badge. He just made me eat my words today and to @Jasego and any other party I may have offended by my hasty and ill-assessed judgement to forgive me. Like is human nature to look for excuses, I blame Mathare United for my blind rage. How dare they!!!

Musymo worry not no offence was taken bro as frustrating times take a toll on any of us. I am likewise glad he came good as I had belief that he will be our targetman and very lethal after he gets his groove back on and so will Afriyie. Onto ingwe whom we shattered in pieces both in Kibra and now Kasarani…Am a happy man and thanks to the wonderful fans who turned up in their numbers to cheer our beloved Mayienga.

I also want to go on record as recognizing the crucial goals of the 2 “Westies” against Sharks & efusi. Make me eat my words with more goals.
KPL ni bedroom ya GMFC, GM imekuja 4 times na efusi mara moja tuu and is back to position 7.
Elephant in the room is non payment of players salaries which fans, EC, registered members in fact all stakeholders need to address.
Go for the league and cup double to make up for the CAF ouster.

This team amazes me at times. When you think they are down, Kogalo shocks you. Today I was not very confident, particularly in the 1st half. What a game in the 2nd half. Congrats team and Glory Be to God. You have made my week.

  • The most painful thing in life is to be both a fan of Afc and Afc Leopards .
For the sake of clarity , the former Afc stands for Arsenal football club and the similarities between the two teams was aptly captured by Afc Leopards first half performance , like Arsenal , the first half performance was what pundits refer to as sexy football , but again like Arsenal , the irony of being sexy but impotent in the Bedroom was in plain sight in that half .
The second half was a show of one who understands that the fruits of a Bedroom derby is the children that come forth and we got four and they adopted one .
Waaaah , how am enjoying these Bragging rights rightly earned , I do this while imagining how it would have been if the scores were vice versa like they had been assuming it would be after the Mathare game , they would have murdered as with manenos and so I humbly request K’galo fans not to waste this opportunity , it only comes twice a year .
The 2nd , 3rd and 4th goals were works of art , crisp passings with a purpose .
God bless this team , God bless us .

Finally, 4-4-2 vs 4-3-3…I think Steve ‘Zedekiah’ pollack is listening to bloggers. I will keep telling him, You have to be tactically astute in modern football or else you perish or worse exit oktay style.

I am glad he has tried a different formation today 4-4-2 with two upfront strikers and the results were …BANG ON !!

Maybe we have tried it tooooo late…but it could also be the beginning of an unbeaten run.

Blogger’s as we celebrate this historical hammering of Efusi, I wish to remind us that it is on record that J’Asego predicted that 4-1 scoreline. J’Asego congratulations for achieving the double (Kibra and the derby).

Esteemed bloggers allow me to interrupt your celebrations with this elephant that won’t leave the room until the day we manage to have our own players’welfare fund that is within our control. We have called the EC all sorts of names with regard to Transparency and Accountability. It is time we stopped that blame game. It is time we demonstrated to the EC that we can manage a Players’ fund Transparently and with forthright Accountability. It is in view of this that the following bloggers have embraced the idea and are willing to be part of this initiative:
    1. Oswozo Moziek
    2. Jagem Oremo
    3. Johny
    4. Nyarkopolo
    5. Oduor12
    6. Barefoot Bandit
    7. Gwer Gwer
    8. Agwanda Dave Jakorando

Our initial plan is to raise a minimum of 15 bloggers who are willing to contribute towards the players’ fund. Once we hit the minimum number Oswozo Moziek will unveil a number to which we can send our contributions. We have done this before in this blog with the help of Okoth Jabilo and the proceeds were handed to the team captain in a brief function covered by the press. I remember Jakoyo gave 10,000/- then.

Below is the proof that it has been done before.
GM is a great team, stakeholders need to underwrite the players salaries and start a GM SALARY TRUST FUND that pays players & TB directly into their bank accounts and all the statutory deductions PAYE,NHIF and NSSF. The fund should be FOR PAYING SALARIES ONLY hence independent of EC and also so to be free of KRA penalties.

Oduor 12 had proposed a monthly contribution of Kshs 120 per month and I want to add that you form a legal entity with a liaison office that will coordinate us as well as mobilise Gor Mahia followers with an aim of registering 25,000 or more members in a WhatsApp group sh monthly paying an annual membership fee of Kshs 200 and monthly contribution of Kshs 120 into an exclusive mpesa or paybill number you will give us. Thereafter ALL registered players whether injured or not are paid directly by way of deposits into individual players bank accounts strictly observing and adhering to KRA tax regulations by our liaison office.

Then we publish Incone and Expenditure Account on a monthly basis. As pace setters of Financial accountability and transparency
