Gor Mahia hammer Zoo Kericho 4-0

Gor Mahia’s new coach Hassan Oktay started his career on a solid note as his charges beat Zoo Kericho 4-0 at Kasarani on Wednesday.

Ephrem Guikan once again silenced his critics, scoring twice in the first half. Samuel Onyango added a third as Gor Mahia led 3-0 at halftime. New signing Erisa Sekisambu scored the fourth goal.

Additional Reporting from the Nation

Gor Mahia on Wednesday evening prepared for Sunday’s Caf Champions League clash against Nigeria’s Lobi Stars with a convincing win as they thrashed a hapless Zoo Kericho 4-0 in a one-sided SportPesa Premier League clash.Crucially, this result attained at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani in Nairobi was the Kenyan champions’ first league win of the season, coming three days after a 2-1 loss to high-flying Bandari at the Coast.

The result also marked new coach Hassan Oktay’s first win in charge at the helm, after being on the touchline for three games. “I am happy because my boys have shown they can play very well and score goals which is what football is all about. I know we can do more we will continue working hard so that we bring the best out of these quality group of players,” said Oktay.

Ivorian Ephrem Guikan, who is surprisingly unavailable to play against the Nigerians at the weekend as he was not registered to play in continental matches, helped himself to a brace in the opening half.Kenya international Samuel Onyango and new signing Erisa Ssekisambu also scored a goal each. The lively Guikan scored the first goal of the game in the opening minute and then had to wait for 15 minutes for his next which came via the penalty spot. The spot kick was awarded after Francis Mustafa found the highflying Onyango with a slide rule pass inside the danger zone.

The opportunity left the Kenya international with a goal scoring opportunity and as he prepared to pull the trigger, he was brought down by Sindano Sabiri’s trailing leg.Guikan stepped up and easily converted the resultant penalty past Ugandan Martin Elungat who was guarding the visiting goalmouth.Showing a rich vein of form which could perhaps be of interest to Harambee Stars coach Sebastian Migne, Onyango turned from provider to scorer six minutes to the break.

Formerly at Ulinzi Stars, he rushed to meet a 50-50 ball before Elungat and expertly chipped it into the far right corner.By then Gor Mahia were cruising as Zoo Kericho – who lost experienced duo Micheal Madoya and Nicholas Kipkurui to Tusker and K’Ogalo earlier this month – struggled to create chances. Ssekisambu then scored past his compatriot for the final goal of the match.

  • Congrats team, that’s a perfect reaction.
My advice, take criticism from fans positively because they will always keep you on your toes. Today you will get all sorts of praises but you know what happens when you lose

Hahaha Amor Jasego is happy…Congratulations Hassan Oktay a no nonsense coach i like that. You showed excellent reading of the game and tactical responsiveness in substitutions. Congrats my boy Guikan for standing up to be counted by scoring two and providing an assist for Samuel Onyango. Surely it is not you to go on loan if output is considered. Congrats Erissa Ssekisambu for opening your account. Sorry Kahata for the undeserved red card the ref was too harsh. All in all we are back and rearing to go…All players and TB hongera mingi

Welcome coach oktay, keep up that scoreline even against lobi.Where is the idiot calling himself gor player? No player wanted to impress zico that’s why Gor deserves a foreign coach.

We are officially at the top league table by virtue of goal difference. We should remain up there so that even when we are out on continental assignments no competitors can come close. All that requires consistency on the part of the players and even more on the part of the Gor Mahia administration. Some powerful motivators for a player include respect and appreciation.

Teddy and Ja’Asego you have always been very objective and have never been part of the gang that waylays and mugs bloggers. You were never been part of that gang that revels in rubbing salt on the wounds of bloggers. I urge you to maintain that spirit. Stay that course. Let us all rejoice and thank God for the huge win without caring about the naysayers. Let us embrace all, naysayers or otherwise because we don’t belong to the gang of those who assault Intellectual freedom and Independence of reasoning.

  • Oktay Oktal?, a 4-0 win is impressive indeed (league is a marathon with 32 more games to wipe out the Bandari false start that’s why i didn’t worry then), it is also a morale boosting win as we face Lobi Stars, the real test.Kahata must show up, no buts.

Guikan go for the kes.1m SPL golden boot, you’re off to a great start. To GM players/TB you are just 2 games from a kes.55m CCL payout. To EC get your act together with a good bonus plan, as @BB says it’s all about RESPECT & RECOGNITION OF PLAYERS/TB.
