Gor Mahia held by Kakamega homeboyz 1-1

Gor Mahia dropped their first points in several games when they were held 1-1 by Kakamega Homeboyz
Additional Reporting from futaa.com
Ahmed Bhai scored in the final quarter of the game as Kakamega Homeboyz stopped Gor Mahia’s winning streak after 1-1 draw as the sides faced off in Kenya Premier League match played at Moi Stadium Kisumu.

Moses Mudavadi delivered a cross from the left wing at the 82nd minute and Bhai connected it past Boniface Olouch into the net to end their search for a goal against Gor Mahia cancelling Meddie Kagere’s opener.

Opener

Gor Mahia had started the match strongly with Francis Kahata linking up with George Odhiambo who paced up on the left wing before delivering a low pass to the six yard box and Gor’s ‘prodigal son’ Kagere sent the ball direct into the net giving Kogalo a lead at the 12th minute of the game.

Kakamega homeboyz had their goal disallowed at the 20th minute of the game after Athmani Buki header was judged as offside by centre Referee Simuyu Dan and his assistants.

Chances

Just seconds before Wafula bent in a cross that went straight to Tuyisenge who was unmarked in the box but the forward headed the ball the wide despite being a free header. Kagere and Tuyisenge made a couple of touches before the latter delivered a through pass past Homeboyz back four at the 29th but Wafula Innocent slowly reacted to the ball.

Homeboyz had their chances in the game also with Abass Akinyemi picking up a loose ball and before delivering a pass to Bhai who set up Murunga but Gor Keeper Boniface Olouch denied him a chance to find the net punching the ball back to play.

Second half

In the second half Homeboyz started attacking strongly especially after coach Mike Muiruri introduced Andrew Kulecho, Meshack Karani and David Odhiambo. The side would have scored at the 66th minute but Odhiambo’s shot missed the goal by just an inch wasting the superb build up for the chance. In reply Kahata sent a shot that was deflected towards the goal by Chikati Michael but Michael Wanyika made a superb save to keep the side in game.

This is the second draw between these side in a Kenya Premier League match. Gor have moved to second with same points as Mathare United who have been pushed to third due to inferior goal difference.

  • Is the 2pm sun too much.Is it the garbage burning or is it laxity. I have a bone to pick with Karim;,he always turns backwards while Wafula is not fast enough. Those loyal Kisumu fans deserve a victory; draw iwe for Nairobi at worse.

  • I have always questioned whether Wafula should start games ahead of Walusimbi or Nondi. He makes plenty of back passes. He makes several blind passes. He takes eons to make decisions when possessing a ball. He is too slow to recover lost balls. Am also yet to know whether Wendo is sharper than
Gattuso in the midfield. Meanwhile, Tusker and their penalties have opened a 5 point gap ahead of Kogallo. If we thought that our squad was beefed up enough then we need to watch Tusker’s last 2 games and re-strategise. Last season, teams “played Gor in 1st half then played Kogallo in 2nd half”. This season, Gor scores in 1st half then other teams equalize in 2nd half.
I have enough reason to worry because our team’s complacency in the 2nd halves is costing us. Who covers the defence when Nizigiyimana runs upfront to deliver his trademark crosses? When a defensive midfielder is called off the pitch, who complements Musa in defence? We are still far from what we have assumed is naturally ours.

Negative tactics by the homeboyz keeper..wasting time by faking injury.and the ref didn’t clamp down on that.
Nowonder such teams don’t go far…they are just there to make the numbers!!

I think Homeboyz did their proper homework on Gor and they strategized well. That is how you can be ambushed by any team. Going forward we need to plan well and understand our next opponents. There’s something happening at Ruaraka, they were again given a penalty out of nothing, so we are fighting many enemies

    • Ja thur gi ji, your observation is right, Brewkenge earn penalties in every game they play. Maybe FKF has consecrated them as the sacred cows to win the league this season.

I am just curious coz I don’t even see him as a sub in many games. We already miss Aucho. I still miss analysis by Jasego. Wapi Dan original na wengine semeni.

    • In my view we plaid verywell most of the first half. Wendo as a defensive midfielder had a good outing. The moment he was substuted the game changed in the favour of our opponent. Kahata was very impressive though he was a bit overworked. We are overeliant on the wings for penetration to the extent that when our attacking wings are clipped we are cooked. Our able coach need to to work on central attacking options. As been mentioned, we need to work on our concentration especially in the second half. This second round is going to be very tough, I watched Ulinzi play Tusker; it was a very different display, speedy with all departments functioning. Though Ulinzi was robbed of their win. We have quality players, a highly experienced coach and I hope today’s game will serve as a learning point for our technical bench.

Its really frustrating to have such a crowd behind and play with no urgency, defendars who are in position to initiate a move always back passing to the keeper to belt it 4ward,something he cul.d AV done big improvement Mr.wendo keep it up.True Tusker awarded penalty bt the way they are playing with urgency is what makes the difference

  • Good game but the pace was very slow. For once I blame the coach for not changing tactics amidst the intense 2pm kisumu heat.

In the second half we should have changed tactics to 4-5-1 to frustrate KK who were obviously quicker , adaptable and much more agile than kogallo.

Nevertheless, tusker on the other hand got their 10th penalty of the season and everything seems to be working for them this season.

Kogallo we have to step up the chase.

  • Ze maria has to be told the truth that he should field players on merit sio kupendeleana. Why field Wafula/ Berry yet we have better players kwa bench?? He should refrain from underatting other teams coz they can always pull a surprise as witnessed yesterday. Omera we spend and sacrifice alot and therefore we dont expect mediocre performance from players /coach . To coach Approach every game with seriousness it deserves and improve on your substitution coz it’s wanting in terms of time and players being fielded. Awacho ayueyo tho.

    Reply
  • This man Wafula should not be fielded period. He is wasteful, blind passes, has no urgency, takes too much time with the ball, shoots off target all the time. Black Berry is a first half player if he must play. Marcelo was joke in this game, he should be benched in the next game so that Sibomana starts otherwise he will not improve and he will start feeling untouchable. Kagere and Tuyisenge roles should clearly defined otherwise they will just be running down like headless chickens and both will be banking on the other to score. the more both are fielded the less goals gor will have coz neither of the strikers will take responsibility on the pitch to score goals…remember Tuyisenge has been scoring, now prepare for a goal drought. Wendo is good but should not be reckless in his tackles. I think Baron should be starting games now. he is better than BB and Wafula. Ze Maria for once was a bit confused, he takes out Wendo who was the only holding midfielder and brings in Nondi who is attacking midfielder, while Gattuso remains in the bench. Too much praise on Ze maria will spoil him. Lastly, Gor should always strive to finish a game on the early minutes by taking its chances, you let a ”simple ” games like this go to second half then you should be prepared to shed tears like France.

  • Last two goals conceded were very similar, ball was looped behind our overlapping wing backs and our keepers beaten by quick lucky/well taken shots. Hboyz were also falling and sitting back waiting for the misplaced pass / slopply control then counter quickly. We are being studied by other coaches, compounded by missing Auchoism is forcing creative Kahata operate too deep hence reducing his effectiveness. Ze Maria wapi tiki taka of late?

In my honest opinion, that game was not as easy as people think.Try playing on astro turf even for 5 minutes…and at 2pm in that kisumu heat.It was never going to be easy for either team.
Perhaps what we need to do in future to avoid such scenarios is to request the fixtures secretary to either schedule a game for 5pm onwards or just use nyayo as our home ground.

  • Hehe, coach knows best, he is always with the team, Wafula playing all that time while Kagere gets substituted earlier than wafula, coach knows best, he is always with the team, blackberry with the blind passes giving Kakamega Homeboyz chances to go for a counter as Baron Oketch is seated on the bench watching,, coach knows best, he is always with the team, a strong holding /defending mid fielder is substituted with a young (of course talented), but an attacking mid fielder in a game of Kakamega Homeboyz oys’ calibre, giving a lot of pressure on Musa Mohammed, coach knows best, he is always with the team. By the way, coach knows best why Waluwalu is not in the team even after being highly rumoured to be back. Coach always knows best, but coach should know the difference between playing a highly contested league, and playing a friendly match with butterfly fc.

I’m really wishing Tusker continue playing good football (though minus penalties) and even win matches so that the Coach can see the pressure, I’m wishing Mathare should not give up on the title race so that someone in Gor Mahia can do something, Ulinzi keep playing nicely, we want a STRONG competition, I wish Ingwe could keep up the tempo and join top five, so that any one who wants to SINCERELY win this league should WORK SMARTEST. We need a COMPETITION, not winning by a goal then a draw and start praying that Tusker and Mathare lose their matches NO NO NO, this is football,, a Competition, Not a friendly match where out of form player(s) is allowed to play full match so as to gain fitness.
If in any case we clinch this league again, DO NOT EVER expect any sympathy or fear from any team in the Caf, not even in Cecafa. We MUST learn to cope with Pressure if we have to move to the next level in the African Football Scene.

None of these factors affected Hboyz?

This was our home game, we determined the kick off time (hope it was not dictated by catching the next flight back to Nairobi) and could have even watered the pitch to make life difficult for Hboyz, its done btw. These are administrative decisions surely bloated EC buck stops with you.

I don’t see the dominance we had over Tusker in the Top8 hope twas not a flash in the pan, but just the 2nd bad day in the office.

This is all about football as a sports that will have jinx, records and all manner of things including the eigth wonder of the world with your “Ze-Maria” post above. We witnessed our fans crying like babies in 2012 when TUSKER ran way with title at hope centre at 11th hour and i beg to inform you that this year the title will go down the wire just like 2012.

Stop whining and murmuring about coach Ze Maria or are you a greenhorn K’Ogalo plastic fan who can not apply sportsmanship mentality which is a norm in any competition. Supposedly with all the prevailing circumstances had Gor won the match then your posting could have been in the reverse with words of praises about K’OGALO. ….UJOGA SANA.. JO-PLASTIC.

If you can not fathom what the coach has achieved then SHIP OUT AND KWENDA KABISA OR JOIN BURWEKENGE OR OGWANG WHO ARE WINNING.

No wonder today NOBODY is even thanking GOD for a 1 point draw. Kwani huyu MUNGU wenyu ni wa GOR pekee yake such that other teams are not suppose to upset K’ogalo since all the ODDS are against our opponents. One thing I have silently noticed is that when Gor is winning (8 matches in a row) ingwe was either losing or drawing. And likewise when Ingwe was wining the first five matches Gor was losing or drawing. So let’s hope ingwe loses so that we win. Au everybody wins their matches. That ws just an observation but as I know it Tusker will still falter as for Mathare now the tag of favourites has started biting them

As fans we are free to air our views be they positive or negative but expecting to win every game is our problem. Ingwe won a game after 8 loses/draws and are still celebrating. On the other end we drew our ninth game after 8 straight loses and are hitting the roof. Had we won nobody would have seen the weakness in some of the players and coach. As usual we win the next match and we will be all praises about the same people. That is the nature of the Gor fan, though we have a silent group that hurts but understands the nature of football. An analogy of Portugal, France, Germany etc was give up there. Iceland can also be thrown into the mix to show the unpredictability of the game. All is not lost, Tusker will lose and we will win and Mathare will start falling by the way and then we will be happy again. Unfortunately the book makers have installed us as the favourites to defend our title. good and bad at the same time since it an bring pressure or complacency on the team

A few postings back guys here and on other sites were bashing the coach for attempting to refuse to sign Kagere. They were like “we want Kagere back. To okwasechi” Now their dear Kagere scored in his debut game on his return to GM and no one seems to notice this good thing and what it means.
