Gor Mahia held by Tusker

Tusker FC had two men sent off in their match against Gor Mahia on Wednesday 26 March but still managed to hold their own to register a 1 – 1 draw with the champions at the Nyayo National Stadium and in the process stretch their unbeaten run in the season to six matches.
K’Ogalo would have gone ahead as early as the eighth minute were it not for Samuel Odhiambo’s brilliant save that tipped Kevin Omondi’s dipping attempt clear for a corner and seven minutes later Solomon Nasio released a long searching pass that beat the Tusker back line but Odhiambo raced out well to clear under pressure from Dan Sserunkuma.
Omunuk lucky
On 18 minutes, Tusker’s Robert Omunuk escaped with just a yellow card after tripping Shaban Kenga from behind. That was two minutes before Kevin Omondi found himself in another great position in the Tusker box but his shot on the volley was well read by Odhiambo who produced a good save.
From the ensuing attack, Tusker thought they had taken the lead when Jesse Were netted but the ball was pulled back for offside and three minutes later a misplaced foot saw Andrew Tololwa waste another great chance for the Brewers.
First on target
It didn’t take too long thereafter for Tusker to register their first shot on target – nice build up released Jesse on the right side of the box but his shot was too timid to trouble Jerim Onyango in the Gor Mahia goal.
On the half hour mark Kenga should have done better after capitalizing on Jockins Atudo’s miss in the box but after a fine first touch he could only hit the side net and two minutes later the champions registered their biggest miss when from a counter Omondio was released but after beating the keeper he could only watch as the ball bounced off the bar.
Shakava goal
Tusker went close seven minutes later through Jesse on a free kick that was punched back to play by Jerim and Ismail Dunga’s follow up went high and wide even though he had already been flagged offside.
Then came the telling moment on 41 minutes as Gor Mahia won a corner floated in by Innocent Mutiso and Shakava at the far end leapt highest to head home the opener and give Gor Mahia a half time lead.
Second half
On resumption, Gor Mahia threatened after a long Kelvin Oluoch pass from defence found Kelvin Omondi and the flag stayed down but the forward could only hit wide with a hushed shot.
Tusker thereafter showed more purpose and managed to grab the equalizer in the 53rd minute when Ismail Dunga netted from the spot after Kelvin Oluoch’s foul on Jesse Were in the box.
Gor Mahia, in dire need of a win after a loss and a draw in the previous two games, went close through Geoffrey Kizito whose shot hit the post and Kevin Omondi’s follow up was high and wide.
Two red cards
A moment of madness followed, as in the 70th minute, Martin Kiiza had a nasty tackle on Patrick Oboya who had just come in as a substitute and referee Sylvester Kirwa showed him a straight red. His mate Lloyd Wahome followed him seven minutes later after a foul on Dan Sserunkuma but the ten – time champions still managed to hold on for a point.
Luck was not on our side. We still need to put alot effort up front. We played well towards the end of the first half but on resumption it died off.
Against 8 players on the pitch and we only scored 1 goal, from a corner ? Speaks volume.

@Jakoyo, don’t read too much. Don’t be too critical. 3-2-1 statistics is very good at this early stage. It is too early to start putting too much pressure on the team. 24 more matches!! Don’t be fooled by seeing Tusker and the others ahead. The gap is so marginal and you will be surprised when we win 3 matches in a row. You will come back here to praise the team and the TB that you always like to criticize. If you are feeling this bad, then all teams from No 6 and below should fire their TBs

There are people who are possessed by a critical spirit. we played well period only that luck was not on our side today. Ali Abondo should have been red carded and if he reads this let him know he discipline. You cannot hit a fellow player deliberately on the jaw like he did, it was shameful. Today our midfield played so well in general and surprisingly the defence of Shakava/Oluoch. We defended as a team and my prayer is that we perfect this art. Kudos BW and team for making us smile again.

My friend Jabaridi this is the best season we hav started well since 1993. By 10matches w’r always in position 10 or12 then its a draw lost,draw,lost then win infact we should b at position 2 or 3 for the entire fast leg come 2nd leg lets now take our position in the third match.

@ Dan poriginal, @owino Vincent odhiambo, my brethrens, here are the facts from just watching the game, 1st red in the 71st minute and second red card in the 76th minute…for close to 20 mins gor Mahia played with 2 more players……..post match statistics reveal that for the 20 mins tusker were 8 players on th pitch, they had more possession than gor Mahia, in fact the figures were 53% in favor of tusker. that’s my problem and am sure it bothers BW as well!

@jakoyo, there is no point given for posession. At the point the goals were scored the players were 11 each. The fact that we hit the post three times means we could have scored 4 times. At times let’s learn to appreciate even though we didn’t win

Jakoyo,honestly,i think your negative criticisms on the team are not good at all.I will tell you for a fact that it is better to play a tactical team like tusker 11 against 11.did you see how the likes of Oyoo,Aucho,Atudo,Luke Ochieng’ and Monday packed their defence after the redcard?playing ground ball was never possible for us.evry time they got slight possession,they ensured the ball went back to our half almost immediately.
Let us support this team.I saw a lot of positive things to write abt this team today.our strikers need to be clinical and hungry infront of goal and things will be alright.K14,please work on the finishing.we should have burried Tusker by halftime.

the team played well though they should have emerged victors on the match.
i think Oluoch hata kama ni nyama ndogo should take up the right back.he is composed than Nasio.
