Gor Mahia held by Ulinzi 2-2

Gor Mahia gave up a 2-0 advantage and ended up being held 2-2 by Ulinzi Stars at Moi stadium Kisumu on Sunday. Gor Mahia’s goals came from full back Karim Nizigiyimana and an own goal by Hassan Mohamed. Ulinzi then replied with two goals from Stephen Waruru.
Additional Reporting from the Standard
Ulinzi stars came from two goals down to force a 2-2 draw with hosts Gor Mahia FC in a teargas, highly charged game that nearly saw Geoffrey Kokoyo and Wellington Ochieng fight after Waruru elbowed Rwandan import Jacques Tuyisenge to the ground.

The star of the day for the soldiers was on-form Stephen Waruru, who put his name in the score sheet twice as Ulinzi Stars staged a theatrical retaliation to share spoils with the hosts.

Gor Mahia had started the game on a high note giving Ulinzi keeper James Saruni and his defense of Mohammed, Kokoyo and Oliver Ruto pressure that made Churchill Mulama to sometimes come back to help in the defense.

Karim Nzigiyimana brought in a lovely cross from the 40th yard but the effort was headed out of play by Hassan for a corner kick with just six minutes gone.

Keeper Saruni of Ulinzi was forced to come out of his area to punch the ball off the danger zone as Kenneth Muguna tried to set up Meddie Kagere two minutes later.

Muloma was then booked for a dangerous tackle as he hit Godfrey Walusimbi’s face with his elbow sending him down in the watchful eyes of the referee.

Muguna then sent a nice volley from the left flank to find Karim who was just past the 40th yard, Karim, whizzed past Hassan, Kokoyo and Ruto to score the first goal in the 32nd minute of the game for the first half to end with Gor Leading 1-0.

In the second half, Ulinzi made two changes with John Kago swapping places with Sylas Shitote while Omar Mbongi came on for Oliver Kiprutto.

The change did not deter Gor Mahia from getting another goal as (Hassan) Mohammed scored in his area after he lobbed in the ball past Saruni for an own goal to make things 2-0 for Gor Mahia.

However, the celebration was short-lived as Stephen Waruru grabbed his brace (73rd and 87th) two minutes to stoppage and the game was interrupted for close ten minutes as chaos erupted soon after he scored an equalizer in the 87th minute of the game.

It is this second goal that made hell break loose as Waruru went to celebrate at the VIP wing when Gor Mahia fans started throwing projectiles to him and eventually into the pitch of play prompting the Police and Army officer to start through teargas on fans.

The game was momentarily stopped for ten minutes as fans and police fought each-other, with one police and one fan bearing the cost of the violence as they were hit by objects that flying all over the stadium.

  • Zico is tactless. How do you blew away 2 nil lead with poor substitutions. This reflects how tactless is this man Zico and I think he should be demoted to coach the youth team. At this rate let us forget about the league because Zico will not wn any game.

  • did the new striker and defender from nzoia sugar play ? surely this is not normal …6 goals conceded in 4 games, just 4 goals scored in 4 games, our strikers are still misfiring and offcourse some players are still doing tiki taka on the pitch. Is somebody sabotaging Jodala ? I am behind Zico 100% and very sure against all odds he will deliver the KPL trophy in December

    we have to believe !

Stop wasting our time with perennial failures. His footsteps are all of failure, Chemelil, Sony, Posta…what is he doing in Gor Mahia if not being a adala? Thooooo. Even a clueless coach like Nyanweso outwits him.

  • Gor was on the way to a comfortable 2-0 win. And while the substitutions may have played a role, the second goal was the result of loss of concentration. From the time Kago picked the ball from midfield Wendo was AWOL. Waweru got the ball in acres of space Shakava doing nothing to close him down. Worst of all as Waweru threaded an inch perfect pass to Waruru Shakava seemed unaware of what was happening right before his eyes. So sad after he had put in such a commanding display in the game. But, all said, the buck stops with the coach and Zico must take full responsibility. Gor should not go into the next match with Zico as head coach. A teargas canister almost dropped on my head as i navigated the chaotic scenes out of the stadium. With Zico in charge more and worse of this is to be expected and it is an experience i dont wanna wish on anyone!!!

I have called Rachier and he had it all i spared no unkind words for the theatre of the absurd that is kogalo of today.A team worth nothing of note coupled with a Nondescript perennial failure masquerading as head coach. He Must Go as it is ngwech sacco is back in full swing next he will be accosted physically, he should know this only too well

  • It’s a good result by Zico.keep it up. At least a draw from direct football.nowadays a draw is a big result for a small club of gor mania calibre.Things can change so quickly. Initially kpl teams were desperately looking for a draw from gor mahia but now it’s the other way round. As long as we don’t get relegated,we are good.i was BUSY doing a recap of Bomet rally.i overheard a vehicle announcing the match a long Kibos road but since iwasn’t interested in direct football, I opted for 8/8 which is more rejuvenating.

In contrast our ja njaggah head filled coach saw no reason to switch to formations that can easily cushion a two goal lead instead squandering them resulting into chaos which Mwendwa will be salivating on for possible sanctions. I said Zico Cannot be Gor Mahia Head Coach, atleast not if we are focused on reclaiming the Kpl trophy and going to CAF Group Stages. Likewise i have been telling idiotic chairman to bring in a foreign coach na sijui anangoja election ama nini? With zico we need npot go plat Everton in the Pre-Season friendly we might ship in many goals and end up being embarassed and East Africa laughing stock in Tanzania.#Bring in Lwandamina or Da Rosa like yesterday

  • Bring in Da Rosa or Lwandamina as Head Coach, Zico is hopeless he is way in above he’s njagga head. All he will do is fragment kogalo by bringing in violence as witnessed today and hated as we are FkF won’t waste time wielding the Bigstick. For tranquility and title reclamation a foreign coach must come asap. Jakoyo wake up and see things as they are, zico bure cannot be the solution GM needs, i said it and repeat the K’Ogalo Head Coach post totally outweighs his intelligence at any point in time

I think guys are being too unfair to zico, substitutions I believe are always a gamble they can work & be called a genius or they can backfire & be reffered to as tactless. As for those so many qualified jodala am sure if they come they would be a recycled jodala, initially failed at GM & so many other employers hence was sacked.Instead of insulting Zico ,EC shuld be pressurized to look for a foreighn head coach.Culd EC take note of Horoyo coach with a view of someday hiring the dude. The team plays wonderful football.I remember reading in some magazine kitambo that the likes of Horoyas were the team’s that were competing with Kogalo.Poor GM.In 8 yrs Mugabe without interruption you couldn’t enlarge your vision for GM to make it a continental giant again. So sad.

We are topping the table, thanks in part to Jodala mantra. We are winning the League thanks to Jodala Mantra;Even the Kisumu result is a 3-0 to Jodala proponents. That 0-2 lose to Sofa is interpreted by these great at Gor fan Base as a 2-0 win to Jodala. Stop throwing raspberries into our eyes.Stop causing chaos that Waruru showed us his middle figure. YES he did but the riot was a consequence of the result. With a Jodala at the helm we are going to beat Everton 3-0,win the GOTV cup,Win the Super 8,CECAFA plus ANY CUP AVAILABLE.Jodala good days are a head for sure.No more back passes. No more tiki taka.Oluoch has finally found his match in Peter Odhiambo,The 4 million dollar man no longer get playtime plus all the clueless foreigners at Gor are soon to be shown the window plus the door. That is Jodala team. Not Gor Maria. You ain’the seen anything yet.

  • We are now at a point where we r very busy throwing tantrums at the dummy ( Zico) that has been thrown to as by the man pulling the strings from the shadows.
The script we are witnessing now is what was written long time ago n which was to frustrate Ze into submission , the first step being to thrustZico on him , then the cahoots would be set loose Including on this wall where terms such as Jodala was coined to rally the ones who were clueless as to the script and which was to hound Ze using any and all tools available to rubbish anything Ze would do including taking action on some indisciplined personel like Otamax n Gatusso as Ze’s affront to Jodala , while there r some who had genuine misgivings about Ze , this was hijacked by the cahoots including on this wall.
This club is headed in the wrong direction and I wish to plead with the EC agents to spare as the casual manner in which they handle issues to do with our club.
Has anybody ever wondered how days b4 Ze called it a day , their is somebody on this wall who was right in the know about what was to happen , now that results have gone south , the reasoning has now turned to ” its not the coach who is in the field , its the players” , was Ze the one who used to be in the field when pre meditated insults were being hurled at him.
The contextual reason as to the skirmishes in kisumu were the bottled up frustrations n solely blaming the clueless Zico Is missing the point by miles

    • Mr Teddy we are not holding back anymore at this point. It is none other than one Messr Ogango Trailer who insinuated that he orchestrated Ze Maria’s departure and even went ahead to state that he has perfected the art of hounding out coaches out of Gor Mahia using this blog if they don’t toe the EC line. Now he Must be called to Question,On whose authority was he acting on Behest by formenting a ”Coup De Etat” in GM by chasing Ze maria and who are the other Coaches he has Hounded out of K’Ogalo as he hinted? No, Zico Must go come rain or high water Zico Must Go,even us we are Major stakeholders in GM and Rachier won’t have peace from me and like-minded technocrats until he brings in a foreign coach, hatubembelezi mtu lazima afanye what’s best for the Team and that he shall if he knows whats best for our beloved team.We cannot sit back and see us head the ingwe direction

But shida with K’Ogalo is topmost management. Ze Maria fell foul with them Nutall style before fans really got fed up and demanded his ouster.
This deliberate chaos created by Mugabe is becoming more intolerable with each passing match.

        A. Bhangi smoking
        B. Career destroyer
        C. Corruption will become the order of the day e.g players will be fielded depending on how much Zico is paid.
        D. Mabeste syndrome will become the order of the day.
        C. Indiscipline will become Gor Mahia narrative

The eerie silence from from Jodala proponents is disturbing. The guys who lectured us on merits of Jodala and who would spare us no insults and insolence,at the projection of a divergent opinion, are now posting in measured tones.Gone are the chest thumping heroics and the belligerence that goes with it.One senior blogger even had the audacity to quote his academic credentials. We literally sabotaged and lynched Ze Maria because we wanted our own.We were reminded and given a litany of reasons why EC erred in picking a nondescript Brazilian to coach our team.Never mind we were the same people who hated with passion, the “patia Sserenkuma” mode of play.We wanted our team to play sexy football.Nice foreplay and finally penetration(forgive me if a alittle vulger). Now are being told that wasn’t sexy enough. What matters is penetration.Nothing more.Let me prophesy with the man of God”Israel -read Gor Mahia-you have killed yourself”

In a tough game like that was there any need to replace Kagere? Was there any need to substitute Joash, what of blackberry, though he was just a bit tired? The coach killed the game with those careless substitutions. But I had said that the beginning of the end is here, watch this space. Zemaria was a professional coach we did not appreciate and please let’s stop this jodala business, Gor is beyond that narrow parochial thinking. Losing a comfortable lead just like that? Zico is surely not fit for the bill.
