Gor Mahia held scoreless by SoNy

Gor Mahia’s title chase was slowed down by SoNy Sugar at Awendo green stadium when they were held to a 0-0 draw

K’Ogalo came into the match knowing that victory of any kind will ensure they remain close to league leaders Tusker FC

Gor Mahia were held to a barren draw by Sony Sugar in a mid-week league match played at Awendo Green Stadium on Wednesday.

K’Ogalo came into the match knowing a win will ensure they remain close to league leaders Tusker FC, who were to play Thika United later on with Sony Sugar aiming to continue with a good run in the league that has seen them rise from relegation zone.

The match started well with both teams keen for an opener as the tempo intensified from the first minute. The sugar millers gave as much as they received with Gor Mahia pressing for an early opener to ease the pressure. In the 15th minute, Amos Nondi curled in a wonderful corner-kick after custodian Timothy Odhiambo had parried the ball; unfortunately he was unable to hit the target. Two minutes later, Erick Ouma did a replica of the same.

It was quite unfortunate for Sony Sugar not to take the lead in the 35th minute as Valen Mahero floated in a wonderful cross, but no one was there to head it home. Gor Mahia ended the first half on a high note as they won a free-kick just outside the box, but Odhiambo did well to deny Erick Ouma.

After the break, Sony Sugar came back stronger with substitute Amos Asembeka bringing all sorts of trouble in K’Ogalo defense, but still no goal was coming forth. The hosts resorted to cautious play as they looked keen for a draw, as Gor Mahia intensified their attacks.

Unfortunately after 90th minutes it was 0-0. The result means Gor Mahia have 32 points from 20 matches as Sony Sugar registered their 24th point of the season.

Starting XI: Bonface Oluoch, Karim Nizigiyamana, Abouba Sibomana (Walusimbi Godfrey), Musa Mohammed, Wellington Ochieng, Ernest Wendo (Enock Agwanda), Innocent Wafula (Francis Kahata), Amos Nondi, Meddie Kagere, Jacques Tuyisenge, Eric Ouma

Unused Subs: Samuel Okinda, Luke Ochieng, George Odhiambo, Godfrey Walusimbi,Godfrey Walusimbi, Anthony Mbugua, Francis Kahata

When I saw the line up, in as much as I am not a qualified coach, I knew we were in for a draw…Becoz I knew the defenders and the goalkeeper would be fantastic… I had issues with why Nondi, Wafula and Marcelo we starting.. Marcelos style of play is already open and every defender would not allow him to penetrate. In this league, we need players like Walusimbi who can cross and score at the same time…I am beginnin g to think the following: THE COACH IS CLUELESS AS WHO TO FIELD IN ANY GIIVEN MATCH, THERE IS SOME POWERS SOMEWHERE FORCING HIM TO FIELD SPECIFIC PLAYERS, WITH THE WAY AUCHO LEFT, MAYBE SOME PLAYERS ARE NOT HAPPY HENCE THE NUMBER OF CROSSES BEING DELIVERED TO KAGERE AND TUYISENGE ARE COUNTABLE. But as fans, we are the ones who feel the pain when the players dont deliver. Something has to be done and its high time Ze-Maria realises that in Gor you dont gamble…We were spoilt with winning mentality and that has to continue… By this time of the league las year, Nuttal has laready rapped the league and was mixing fringe players and regulars and results were still coming…. This was the only opportunity for us to go top now that Tusker is being hammered by Thika mercilessly.

  • We understand the league is competitive but the coach needs to know his first eleven which is a fact he seems to be gambling. Jamigori l concur with you on this , the coach seems not to know whom to field in a particular much. A match like the this required Gatusso in midfield, Waluwalu and Kahata but all the same we’ll fight another day.

What is this craze about first eleven? Do you mean to say that Shakava should be fielded even when under suspension? Should Walysimbi playa with an injury? Should Colins Okoth play even if he does not attend training? There is no coach who doesnt want a regular line up. I want to believe that the inclusion of 1 or 2 players in any squad is necessitated by the situation at the moment, and NOT history. Yes Gatusso was in his peak last season, but his form has deepen. We can all see that. What is the coach supposed to do? Let us stop the blame game. This season’s league especially the 2nd leg is highly competitive. Tuwache lalama za bure.

Players and TB are paid winning bonuses. I do not think that they take the field with an intention of going without bonuses. It is therefore not right to think that TB is not doing its best.

I am not worried about nothing. For God and my beloved club – Kogallo

    • @Kosero on what evidence do you attribute Gatusso’s form to have declined Sir. I saw him last Saturday at his best Sir. He was in Awendo alongside Shakava, Baron and Odula watching the game from the top of the bus. Maybe they are all injured…..

  • I was in Awendo. We lacked ideas and never registered any shot on target. All attempts on goal were either crosses on set pieces that never troubled Timothy at all and he is a good keeper no wonder Owiny had to hit the road. Nondi started in midfield and did not contribute much. Wendo shielded the defence well but as you all know he is not a creative one. Wellington started ahead of Luke and was a warrior alongside Musa. Overall, we lacked teeth and the Kagere/ Tuyisenge combo not working still. No interplay between them till Kagere was hauled off for Agwanda whose biggest contribution was to block our only goal bound shot. If we win the League it seems it will have more to do with favourable results from our rivals.

I don’t know what to call these guys who are pleased with these draws. I read these comments from the likes of JOODS, DAVID A. OLUOCH, ALBERT KOSERO et all and damn I feel like having football lessons with you just to help you out. I think you guys live to defend the TB even when they are not doing the basics. I have said here in the past an opinion that has been widely supported by football pundits that Gor will continue to struggle as long as Kagere and Tuyisenge are played together. Even an armature coach will see this. These two strikers are both hungry to score with same style of play, easy to predict, compete against each other, eager to please, want to be the heroes of the day, in the end jumping and bumping on each other and hopping around like headless chickens. I wish the TB listened to genuine and sincere fans like myself, Gor would be very far now. Until then I proceed to my usual slumber and guys feel free to wake me up when Tuyisenge scores.

We congratulate the team for all their matches and we have no problem with a draw or a loss. But as my colleagues have pointed out, we will be happy with a draw or a loss well fought over and a lineup that indicate intent to win the game. I recall a draw in Nakuru last year against Ulinzi and All stars. They were draws we didn’t want but we accepted because the lineup was ok and the team fought tooth and nail and boots !!!!!!! But to approach a game with signs that one doesn’t care wont gel with the fans. PODI PKIA FANS MQG GOR !!!!!! Let him sort out his act before we the fans explode. If all school of thought say the two strikers are clashing and MUST NOT be played together,it would be prudent if the coach listened. And the tinkering of mid players has made even small teams control the game. We sincerely wish the Technical bench do read this blog.

  • To all those obnoxious apes who take to this blog to express contentment with a draw, you need to declare whether you are pro-Kogallo or you are the outlet of propaganda within our management.
A team of Kogallo’s calibre banking on Tusker’s loss to win the league is ridiculous, opportunistic and a true manifestation of tactical failure.
If we made the wrong recruitments then coach should up his ante on training and impart the best tactics to this squad. I was not at Awendo but a draw against Sony is a hallmark of failure. I was agitated by the way futaa.com wrote the headlines- “Sony end 5-game losing streak by drawing against Gor”.
Things are getting tricky with every game to play but this league is Gor’s to lose. Again, wake me up when Ze Maria makes the right fielding.

A good Coach should just see and admit that the chemistry is not working. Kagere and Tuyisenge upfront? It’s enough, even the blind can see it doesn’t work at all for now.
The gamble in the mid field is just too much.
The League is “very competitive”!!!! With the Gor Mahia signings against those of a team like Sony! No, that’s a big lie. Furthermore not even a threat or satisfying shorts on target. NO!!!
Squad rotation should at least be giving a fairer display, at least.
Coach we know the winning team, same as you. Why the gamble? Why should we keep on relying on other teams’ loses to hope for the title? Congratulations for the clean sheet.

@Tosh, did you attend all the Gor preparation sessions this week to know why so and so was left off the team. Preparation for a match requires more than just letting the person who played last week be available.Plese tell us about the performance of Wellington Ochieng in the absence of Shakava. I know last year Nuttal more or less stuck to the same team throughout but looks like for some reason Ze Maria has not been able to do that

Guys let us take time and draw positives from our match against Sony. The clean sheet, the performance of Wellington Ochieng’ in a new role, the lack of ugly incidences and the ability of Boniface Oluoch to continue with play even after a collision with a Sony striker. This notwithstanding the fact that football is about results.

The outcomes of midweek KPL matches are an indication that God wants Gor Mahia’s to take this league. However, the title may not come our way because the team is not playing well. For this, once again I refuse to point accusing fingers at anyone. At such times, the prudent thing is to help find a solution.

It is no secret that the team is not playing well. This does not mean that Ze Maria is clueless. I find those calls for his dismissal rather premature and unnecessary. We saw his capabilities immediately he took charge. I believe the problem is all about the playing unit and especially the midfield. Long passes are not Ze Maria’s preferred style. The question is: why does the team resort to it? Is it a question of players choosing to do their own thing? Our crosses have become soft, predictable and therefore giving opposing defenders no problems at all. I still don’t agree that observations fans post here are infringing on the coach’s work. Don’t be surprised that Ze Maria himself does not even know that there is a ‘spoiler’ called Gormahia.net. Were that the case I believe the EC , other members of the TB and even the coach himself would have cried out, perhaps through Ja ASego. Guys voice your opinions freely. Never be bothered by the tag ‘know-it-all’ because that is not your opinion.

In the words of AR, Ze Maria was hired because of his professionalism that surpassed that of others who had expressed interest. A professional coach knows his work and his least worry is fan’s comments posted in social media. So you guys who are constantly reminding us to let the coach do his work, I believe it is you to leave the coach alone. He is a big boy and can handle himself.

I think if the coach plays his 1st 11 against the reserve team daily in training after all the ball works will help the cohesion of the team & especially an understanding btw medie & jack.making the whole squad of around 30 players play 2 or 3 touch football in 1/2 of the field is not helping.the players need to implement all this ball work in training, game situation instead of eating for them to do so in the actual game or friendly. I think if we do so we might even play the so called samba

For me there is cause for concern in the striking department.Arguably we have 2 of the most lethal marksmen in this part of Africa but their goal ratio per game is very poor.
We are now heading towards the business end of the league. The sooner we get these 2 players scoring the better.ANY more slip ups and we will be made to pay for it dearly. The chasing pack. ..like Ulinzi are not too far off!!it’s time to step up.

I wonder what the coach needs to do. He recommends his countryman as a striker we say Kagere is the man. So the EC bends and brings in Kagere. We say BB or Agwanda is not good to partner Ja Usenge again we have our way and viola our previous best Striker Luanda Magere is co-striker. All over a sudden the partnering is not working and should be discarded. So do we play JaUsenge without BB, Agwanda, Nondi, Wafula etc?
And as we say all this now we are in our offices/colleges or places of work and Ze Maria and the team are trying to find the right combinations for a win. Yet for the 90 mins on Sato we will know who best plays where. All I know is that the players, TB and even EC want to win.
What if what is happening to Tusker and Mathare was happening to Gor? It could be mayhem. and who says we are immune to that? As Gor the only thing we have that the other teams don’t have is fans, and maybe funds. The rest is equal. Most coaches when they go to play Gor they say that despite the thousands of fans only 11 Gor players will be in the field at any particular time. Says a lot about current football

And hats off to you, you are always brilliant at inventing excuses. Stop justifying Gor’s perfomance with your never ending reference to Tusker and Mathare. Where I stand Gor should tower over all these other teams. That is why I support Gor and not those teams you like referring to. Gor has a sponsorship of how much per season? Tusker? Mathare? How much on average is the Gor Mahia player and TB paid? Tusker? Mathare? @Dan, finally what do you think is ailing our team? What do you suggest be done?Do you have targets where you work? So? Why can’t Dan compare us with other teams? I think this is a good analogy since every team comes to play to win. That is why it is a competition. Why should one think that Gor should tower over all other teams? That does not make sense to me. If what is happening to Tusker and Mathare were to happen to Gor, what then would we be saying? Reflect on this seriously, what would we be saying or doing?

I will say this: the bottom line is that WE HAVE NOT LOST A GAME. AND WE HAVE NOT CAUSED MAYHEM. Remember the boys are trying, the coach is trying and the EC, everybody would like a win. It does not come easy all the time. So with all our “expertise”, when some of us say keep your line, please lets do.

Who knows that Gattusso has an injury and he played his previous match. The bitter truth is that of late Ze maria’s tactics has been wanting more so in midfield and that’s why small teams have been commanding our midfield as we chase shadows. Partnering of our two strikers is not delivering results kwani what’s wrong with the coach considering other options ama ukiongea then you don’t understand football and that you are Hooligan. Yes we may not necessarily be coaches but we have football tactics awareness awacho ayueyo. Our current performance is below per all that we are asking for is fighting spirit how can you explain than we are the team in the league who have the most expensive strikers but there’s no an attempt of shot to the goal? He is way better than Luke. He was shaky in his first few touches but later gave a warrior’s perfomance. Despite his height, he is fantastic in the air.He is a bit rough but yesterday it worked to our benefit. He is also very confident on the ball and severally played the ball past a few Sony players then took his time to pick a pass. And he almost scored from a long Agwanda throw although the guy next to me almost killed him saying the throw would have scored had he not put his head to it….can a throw be counted as a goal if it goes straight in without a touch?

You are simply applying what is known as defense mechanisms in psychology in order to justify the results. Why should I be comfortable with a draw against Sony. I can only celebrate a draw against Tusker, Ingwe, Madhare Ulinzi…. Forgive me but why we were on F.N neck if we know that such results are expected. Did i not here then that ” this is Gor Mahia” We should be sincere and stop pretending. The problem is that no sooner had the coach settled in Kenya than he was Labelled “a genius” Wait until Ingwe beats Gor. I can see the corus right now is that KK, Sony name them are worthy opponents. And is it true that the coach was asking for a self contained bus to Awendo? I thought I could wake Jabatiso from his sleep but Not yet.

    • The bus he was asking for is what delayed the team making them arrive a few hours to the game. There were two members of his family in Awendo and while he has the right to carry them along anywhere he goes, I wonder if the self contained bus was for the players’ comfort since they have been using our usual bus all along…..The Sony game must have been special that the players had to be given an upgraded bus. I think I know who the special bus was for but since Ze Maria’s bodyguards on this blog may kill me, I will leave that to your own conclusion.

Our League is becoming very interesting. For a fact No Team is carrying the underdog Tag and this is beautiful for the game. No Team is going to be a walk in the Park. Ushuru, Tusker and Mathare can testify to that. Who envisaged that Ushuru would loose with a 4 nill margin after you see them fight tooth and nail when they play Gor? My observation at the on goings trend is that K’Ogalo whether drawing or winning, has kept some consistency. Stretched out into the world of football globally, just recently, no body except for a few expected Portugal to beat France on their own home Turf but it happened. Sony has always given Gor a rough time whether away or at home. I would have been celebrating Gor leading the Table by now but the competition is still open and tight at the same time. This is the opportunity to respect every Team and celebrate a win or a draw because at the end of the season every point will count.

    • @jaupanda very correct because Tusker and Mathare are also losing and Ulinzi is drawing. All we need is to support the team and stop complaining since the coach knows the players whom he sees everyday in training. Our coach is a genius and we must let him do his job.
